Part 4
The group set up their base by the river.
With the pot on the fire, they followed the steps to add the ingredients.
“Hey, Luna, let me do it!”
“You must never touch it.”
“Next, we’re going to roast and boil the Red Jade Ivy, right?”
“Yes, but be careful not to overcook it!”
“Ugh, it’s so hard to control the heat…”
“Wawawa, it’s starting to smoke…!”
Lexia looked at Odis, who was stirring another pot a short distance away.
“By the way, what kind of potion has Odis-sama been making for a while now?”
“I came all the way here to make a potion I want to make.”
“? Hmm?”
After that, they teamed up and started making the immortality elixir.
Soon, the liquid in the pot turned a pale peach color.
“Wow, it’s beautiful…!”
“Is it ready?”
Then Odis, who had come to see how things were going, interrupted.
“No, not yet. The last step is to mix the ingredients with dragon power. If you are like me, you can replace it with magic power, but this is an opportunity for you. Xiaolin, you go ahead and do it. It’s a delicate process, so be careful not to spoil the ingredients.”
“Y-yes…!”
Xiaolin focused her attention and kneaded the dragon power.
A red aura rose from her petite body.
“Beautiful…”
As Lexia and the others watched, Xiaolin carefully poured the dragon power into the pot.
The peach-colored liquid began to glow brightly.
“If you rush at this point, you’ll have to start all over again. Be careful.”
“Yes…!”
Luna whispered as she watched the tense work.
“I see, so this trial also requires the ability to delicately control the dragon power.”
“This trial is just like a ceremony to train the dragon power.”
And then the pink liquid turned crimson.
Seeing the red glowing liquid, Odis smiled.
“Well done, it’s finished.”
“Amazing, Xiaolin!”
Lexia jumped up and down, and Luna and the others applauded.
Even Odis seemed pleased.
“Hmm, it’s of good quality, probably because it was made with real dragon power. It will be effective enough.”
Xiaolin divided the elixir of immortality into two vials and handed one to Odis.
“H-here you go.”
“Yes. I’ll take it gratefully.”
“Isn’t that good, Master? It should take about a week if you replace it with magic power, right?”
“That’s good, isn’t it?”
“Shut up, you two.”
“Still, it’s amazing. I can’t believe we actually made an immortality potion.”
Lexia was impressed as she looked through the bottle at the sky, but then her eyes lit up.
“Hey, I’ve got a great idea! If I drink this elixir, I can become immortal and be with Yuuya-sama forever!”
“Huh? Immortality to be with Yuuya-san forever!”
“You’re not going to involve Yuuya… in your wild ideas again, are you?”
“Ara, Luna, don’t you want to be with Yuuya-sama forever?”
“Mm… Well, I’d be lying if I said I didn’t… W-well, we’ll have to see what Yuuya wants first…!”
While Lexia and Luna were arguing, Odis interrupted them.
“What are you talking about? This is for plants, not people.”
“”””Eeeeeeeeehhhhh!””””
“I-is that so…?”
“Yes. It’s a potion for semi-permanent preservation of precious plants.”
Luna’s eyes widened involuntarily as Odis explained.
“Preserving plants for a long time… S-surely, in a way, it is a potion of immortality…?”
“Well, if humans drink it, they will be in a state of suspended animation, and their bodies can be preserved for a long time, but… it is not what those who seek immortality want, I suppose.”
Lexia let out a sigh.
“What a pity. But if there really was an immortality potion, it would have been a source of conflict between the nations, so this is for the best!”
“Just a moment ago, a royal family somewhere was trying to use the elixir for her personal greed…?”
Luna’s mutterings were brilliantly ignored, and Lexia fluttered her blonde hair and puffed out her chest.
“At least we passed the second trial! Most importantly, thanks to Odis-sama, Xiaolin-sama has regained her original dragon power, so there’s nothing to be afraid of anymore!”
As if in response to her voice, the Mirror of Truth in Xiaolin’s hand began to glow.
“Ah, the Mirror of Truth has projected the final trial! In the Temple of Beginning, you must fulfill your role…? What is the Temple of the Beginning…?”
Lexia and the others looked at each other.
“Maybe now the map will appear on the scroll!”
“Y-yeah! I’ll try!”
Xiaolin nervously put her dragon power into the scroll.
Then, like a bolt of lightning, a map appeared on a blank sheet of paper.
“Ah! The map appeared!”
“Amazing, Xiaolin-sama!”
“This glowing mark is our next destination, the Temple of the Beginning!”
“But what is the role to be fulfilled…? Will we know if we go there?”
Seeing the excitement of the four, Odis took a deep breath.
“Then we will go home. You two pack your things.”
“Yes. We had fun, didn’t we?”
“Yes, it was fun!”
Odis was filling a bottle with a potion he had made separately from the secret potion when he suddenly stopped and turned around.
“By the way, Lexia, you say? You, too, have a mysterious power.”
“Mysterious power?”
“I wonder if you mean the Breath of Light.”
Luna’s words made Odis’ eyes widen.
“Breath of Light? It is said to exist only in a limited number of elves, you know?”
“I don’t really understand it either, but I heard that it’s a power that purifies negative emotions like fear and hatred and returns them to their original state.”
“Lexia-san used this power to keep me from getting out of control and to remove ice spirits from people who were possessed by them.”
Tito added, and Odis put his hand to his chin and thought about it.
“Hmm… The power to influence the human mind is very rare, and because of its uniqueness, it has not yet been researched. There are many unknowns about you as well, aren’t there?”
“Yes.”
Lexia nodded.
Lexia had inherited her mother’s blood from a high elf and was said to be special because of the enormous amount of magic power she carried in her body, but she did not know the details because her mother had died when she was a child.
“You may not be aware of it, but your magic power is very special, and even from my perspective, it is unfathomable. That Breath of Light can still be awakened. Depending on you, it could have various effects.”
“Various effects?”
“Come to think of it, you did draw out the power of the treasured sword, didn’t you?”
“Yes, I was able to produce effects beyond the legendary ones.”
At the mention of Ruri and Riru, Odis’ mouth dropped open in amusement.
“Oh, as I thought. It’s really interesting. I’ll study it one day, so keep that in mind.”
He turned away and handed the vial of liquid and the letter to Lexia as if he had just remembered.
“Oh, yes. And keep this with you. There will come a time when you will need it.”
Is this the potion you made earlier? When it will be needed…”
But Odis gave no further explanation and said, “Well then,” and began to walk away.
Ruri and Riru also waved goodbye.
“See you later, okay? It was fun, right?”
“It was a lot of fun! Take care!”
“Thank you! I look forward to seeing you again!”
“Thank you for everything!”
Xiaolin bowed deeply to Odis and the others as they left.
“Now it’s time for the final trial!”
After Odis and the others had left.
Xiaolin nodded at Lexia’s words and looked at the markings on the map.
“Father said that only those who have the strength, determination, and courage to overcome the two trials will be able to face the final trial. What in the world kind of trial is waiting for us…?”
Lexia puts her hand on Xiaolin’s worried back.
“Don’t worry, Xiaolin-sama has regained your true strength. Whatever trials may come, we will be fine!”
“Yes. And we’re with you. We will protect you no matter what happens.”
“Let’s be the first to go through the trial and surprise the prince and the others!”
“Yes…!”
So the four of them set off for the final trial──the “Temple of Beginnings.”
