Part 4
After Luna was dressed.
“Now, Luna-sama, I’ll do your makeup for you.”
“No, I’m fine as I am──”
“Of course you’re cute as a work of art as you are, but you’ll have to polish yourself up even more if you want to be in high society!”
“Now, now, please sit down!”
The maids surrounded Luna without listening to her objections and stared at her face in amazement.
“Your face is really so well proportioned, isn’t it? You’re as cute as a doll…”
“To accentuate your pretty face, it seems like you should use some light makeup!”
“How about the latest trend of colored blushers?”
“A cherry blossom pink lipstick would go really well with those blue jewel-like eyes!”
“Ugh…”
Luna looked away from the passionate gaze as she turned into a doll.
“I can’t get used to it, but… I don’t want to make a fuss, so I guess I’ll just have to accept it…)”
She finally gave up and sighed.
“…I understand that I have to wear makeup, but at least let me do it myself. Can you show me how?”
“Eh?”
Luna stood up quickly and put her finger under the chin of one of the maids, gently lifting it.
She brought her face close to hers and looked at her with serious eyes.
“Lu-Luna-sama…!”
The maid’s cheeks flushed with embarrassment as she was stared at from a distance where their lips almost touched.
Luna looked at her softly and gently──.
“I see… you’re cute.”
“Kyuun…!”
The maid, bathed in Luna’s smile from such a close distance, immediately turned bright red, and the other maids around her let out a chorus of excited cries.
“Kyaaa! This isn’t fair! I want Luna-sama to grab my chin too~.”
“Isn’t it unfair that Luna-sama is not only cute, but also cool?”
“Luna-sama is a princess and a prince at the same time?!”
The maids were all excited.
At that moment, a small shadow ran past the maids’ feet, startled by the shrill voices.
“Kiki, kikikiki!”
“Whoa! It’s a Mad Mouse!”
What had jumped into the middle of the room was a small mouse-like monster.
“Kikii!”
“Oh no, it’s come out again!”
“This castle is built on an old ruin, so it’s easy for them to sneak in from anywhere!”
“Luna-sama, please stand back! We’ll take care of this.”
The maids rushed to protect Luna, grabbing brooms and trays to confront Mad Mouse.
However, Mad Mouse ran around nimbly and jumped on one of the maids.
“Kikiiiiiiiiiiii!”
“Kyaaa…?”
“Streamline!”
Luna immediately pushed the maid against the wall and then manipulated the string wrapped around her arm, sending Mad Mouse flying out of the window.
“Kikii!?”
She watched as the mouse flew out the window.
“Phew. That mouse was quite agile.”
“Eh? W-what just happened?”
“Luna-sama, didn’t you just repel that monster in an instant?”
The maids, who had not even been able to catch the string in their eyes, were in an uproar.
Then the maid, who was trapped between the wall and Luna, raised her voice.
“U-um, Luna-sama… thank you…”
Luna’s expression softened as she noticed the maid who was now flushed red in her arms.
“Ah… Are you hurt?”
“F-fwahh…!”
The maid who had been saved by the smile of immense destructive power, as well as the expressions of the other maids who watched her, were all changed.
As soon as Luna arrived at the royal castle, the maids became even more enchanted.
After that, Luna quickly learned how to behave like a princess, and courses in court etiquette were also held.
The maids were amazed at how quickly Luna learned all the rules and etiquette.
“Luna-sama, aren’t you learning things too fast?”
“Normally, it would take five years to learn all this!”
“You could go out into society tomorrow! In fact, you’re the most perfect princess of all!”
“I-is that so?”
Luna scratched her cheek.
“(Well, as an assassin, I had to be familiar with the customs of the upper classes. This is the first time I’ve put it into practice, though…)”
The maids continued the lesson, looking surprised but also enjoying themselves.
“Next, we’ll practice dancing!”
“Have you ever danced before, Luna-sama?”
“No, I haven’t. But I’ve seen it a few times. Will you join me for a bit?”
“Eh, eh.”
Luna took the hand of one of the maids.
She gently hugged her waist and took a step forward.
“I’ll just copy what you do… is it like this?”
“Hyaaa…!”
Luna took the maid’s hand and began to dance gracefully.
The maids around her gasped at the scene, which looked like something out of a fairy tale.
“Oh my, it’s so wonderful!”
“What refined movements! I can’t believe you’ve never danced before…”
“But, Luna-sama, isn’t that the male part…?”
“Oh, I see. Fufu, this is more suited to me, so… As I thought, it’s best not to do things I’m not used to.”
Luna blushed, and sighs of disappointment could be heard all around.
“Oh, Luna-sama, how beautiful you are…”
“You have more than enough qualities to be a princess, but I would love it if you could be a prince too…!”
While the maids were completely captivated by Luna, the door to the room was flung open with a bang.
A maid with sparkling eyes rushed in.
“Good news! It seems that there will be a celebration at the castle soon to celebrate Luna-sama’s return!”
The maids cheer.
“Oh, it’s been a while since we had a celebration! I wonder what kind of performances we’ll see this time?”
“A performance?”
The maids take turns explaining Luna’s question.
“Yes! His Majesty Farouk is very interested in culture and the arts, so he invites the most popular theater troupes, minstrels, and performing arts groups in the country to the celebration banquet.”
“There will be songs, plays, acrobatics, and other performances, and it’s all very glamorous.”
“I wonder what we’ll see this time? I’m looking forward to it!”
“Oh, yeah… I guess so.”
Luna looked out the window, trying to hide her confusion.
She sighed when she saw her own well-dressed reflection in the window.
“(A celebration party… I thought I’d just go along with Lexia’s idea, but it turned out to be more serious than I expected. …But it seems that the Kingdom of Rastel is definitely facing a major crisis. And I’m also worried about the health of the king. I hope there’s something I can do to help, even if it’s just a little…)”
Her heart ached as she remembered the sight of King Farouk in the basement.
“I wonder how Lexia and the others are. I hope they didn’t do anything reckless…”
In a room in the castle, Luna silently pondered her thoughts.
***
At that time, in a secluded room in the castle.
“Kuku…kukuku…”
The voice of the king’s younger brother, Douglas, echoes darkly.
“I was surprised when you said you wanted to pass the throne to your missing daughter, but I never thought we would find someone so perfect. A young girl who happens to look like a princess, and an orphan to boot. With poison in your system, you wouldn’t be able to tell the difference between the real thing and the fake.”
Douglas laughed softly as he held a small purple bottle up to the light.
The small bottle contained a poison that was a relic of the Nayuta Empire. Those who drank it would slowly lose their lives, and it was impossible to detect as poison with modern technology.
Douglas had poisoned his brother Farouk with this poison and was planning a terrible plan.
“But brother, why don’t you just hand over the throne to me quietly? Well, never mind. If I can just use the fake princess to get my hands on that key, I’ll have the world at my feet──”
Douglas’ eyes glow suspiciously.
“──Yes, if I can get my hands on the legendary ancient weapon.”
Douglas’ voice rose in excitement, and a mouse scurried past his feet.
“Once that happens, the fake princess will be of no use to me. I’ll just throw her into the Valley of Storms like the real princess and feed her to the monsters. Kuku, kuhahahaha…”
The cracked laughter echoed eerily in the dim room.
