Chapter 4 – The Saviors
Part 1
After leaving the capital to regroup, Lexia and the others stood at the entrance to the forest overlooking the capital in the distance.
“I never thought Selene was the real princess…”
Luna, who had finished listening to the events so far, opened her eyes in surprise.
Selene bowed her head to Luna.
“I’m really sorry for getting you into this mess.”
“No, I’m rather glad that I was the one who caught Douglas’ attention. Thanks to that, we were able to prevent the destruction of the world for now.”
Luna smiled and looked at Selene’s face with interest.
“But we really do look alike, don’t we? No wonder everyone in the castle thought I was the princess.”
“Yes, it’s like looking in a mirror. It is a strange feeling.”
Standing next to them, Lexia held her cheeks in fascination.
“By the way, Luna looked so pretty in that dress!”
“Yes, you looked like a real princess!”
Tito’s eyes sparkled, but Luna sighed tiredly.
“It was a good experience, but it also confirmed for me that life in the royal palace is not for me…”
“But, Luna!”
Lexia suddenly squeezed Luna’s cheek between her hands.
“Isn’t your skin getting smoother!”
“Hmm… Hey, let me go.”
“I was jealous of how smooth your skin was, but now it’s even smoother and finer! What in the world is going on?”
“Really? I don’t know myself, but… Well, when I was at the castle, the maids massaged me with lotion and massage oil and stuff.”
“That’s not fair, that’s not fair! I want to massage Luna too!”
“You don’t want to be massaged, you want to be the one doing the massaging…?”
Luna pulled Lexia away from her cheeks and looked down.
“…But the maids were very good to me while I was in the castle. The king was a respectable man, too. I hope everyone is safe…”
Selene smiled at Luna, who looked worried.
“When we entered the castle, we passed the maids carrying my father. I’m sure they managed to escape.”
“Is that so? That’s good to know. Douglas has the medicine for the poison that is poisoning His Majesty the King. We must do whatever it takes to defeat Douglas and get the antidote.”
“Yes.”
Selene nodded thoughtfully.
Tito looked at the distant capital.
“Still, that ancient weapon… Douglas-san called it a machine soldier, but it was an extraordinary monster…”
“That’s right… if that weapon is in Douglas’ hands, it will be a crisis not only for the Rastel Kingdom, but for the world as well.”
At Selene’s words, Lexia hastily pulls her luggage closer.
“Exactly, we must inform the leaders of each country and have them hold a royal council as soon as possible! And even if the lightning cannon is released again, each country can defend itself with its own defensive barrier, and we might be able to prevent it!”
Lexia immediately started writing letters to the kings of each country.
“You write letters in times like these, huh?”
“Of course, it’s a world crisis! The royal council should be held… in the Kingdom of Arcelia, so it’s best that they gather there, considering the location!”
“…Of course, you will inform Arnold-sama, won’t you?”
“Eh?”
“Don’t just eh me! The Kingdom of Arcelia will be the venue for the royal council, right? If you don’t inform Arnold-sama, there will be chaos!”
“Oh, I see! But first, we must inform the distant countries, it will take time for the letter to reach them!
My father can wait until later!”
“A-are you sure you’re okay with this…?”
“I-I will write a letter to my master as well! Maybe she can help us in some way!”
With Lexia and Tito beside her, writing with serious faces, Luna shifted her attention to Selene.
“It will take some time until the next activation of the lightning cannon, right?”
“Yes, according to the legend that should be the case. Until then, you can’t touch the lightning wall. The next time we can get close to Douglas, it will only be for a short time before the lightning wall’s power is absorbed by the lightning cannon and released… If we can get the key back just before the lightning cannon is released and transfer ownership of the key to me, everything will be fine. …The question is, will it work that way?”
Selene raised her eyebrows, and Luna nodded.
“Yes. That machine soldier couldn’t be stopped with a half-assed attack.”
Tito also looked up from the letter.
“And those beams of light… were so fast and precise that all I could do was avoid them. It didn’t care about the smoke screen, and I wondered how it knew where we were…”
“That’s right. Even if the lightning wall is lifted, I wonder if it is possible to get the key from Douglas while avoiding those light beams…”
The three of them looked at each other with difficulty when Lexia stopped writing the letter and raised her bright voice.
“Don’t worry, we’ve got the best of all here! Luna’s back, so we’re a hundred strong!”
Lexia said happily and hugged Luna.
Luna let out a sigh of relief.
“Well, it’s no use thinking about it, we just have to act. But if you rush in without a plan, the chances of winning are slim. We’ll have to practice until the lightning wall disappears.”
“Yes! Let’s think about the beam of light later… That machine soldier, Luna’s attack is ineffective, which means it’s a very strong material…!”
“Yes! The exterior is probably much stronger than mithril. Even if the lightning wall is broken, there’s not much we can do with that thing.”
“M-more than mithril? H-how can I train myself to be able to destroy such a hard exterior?”
Tito’s tail twitched.
Then Selene opened her mouth.
“I know a good place. When Lexia-san finishes her letter, I’ll take you there.”
The four of them mailed the letter in a nearby town and moved on quickly.
Selene brought Lexia and the others to a lush green hilltop as a place to train.
“Wow, there are a lot of big pillars…!”
Tito rolled her eyes at the sight unfolding before her.
At the top of the hill were several huge stone pillars.
The pillars were so thick that even ten adults could not reach them, and their tops were so high that they almost touched the clouds.
Selene looked at the jagged, reddish-brown surface.
“These pillars are part of a temple built during the Nayuta Empire. The roof and walls collapsed long ago, but these pillars are the only ones that have not collapsed and cannot be damaged in any way. It is said that they were made with a special technique that has not yet been understood.”
“That means…”
“Yes. It’s probably as strong as that machine soldier.”
“So if we can break it, we can defeat the machine soldier?”
“Whoa, that makes me excited…!”
As Tito and the others looked up at the huge stone pillars, Lexia shouted.
“Look, I can see the royal capital!”
They looked up in the direction of the royal capital.
In the distance, beyond the beautiful cityscape, was the figure of a machine soldier wrapped in a lightning wall.
Luna lowered her voice as she looked at the majesty of the city.
“We must defeat it for the sake of the world, no matter what it takes.”
“Yes! I will definitely get stronger!”
“Yes. I will definitely pull Douglas out of the machine soldier and make him pay for what he did.”
Lexia leaned forward enthusiastically.
“Then I will give you all my full support! I’ll cook you a delicious meal and relieve you from the fatigue of your training!”
“Fufu, that’s very encouraging.”
“Le-Lexia-san’s food?
“…Just make sure you follow the recipe and don’t do anything weird, okay?”
“I won’t!”
Thus began the days of training.

“Pressure Point Claws!”
BANG!
Tito raised her claw and slammed it into the stone pillar.
However, it only scratched the surface slightly and did not move an inch.
“Ugh, not good at all…”
While I was waving my aching hand, Lexia came in with a basket in her hand.
“Good work, Tito! This is the same technique you used in the Valley of the Storm, isn’t it?”
“Ah, Lexia-san! Yes, it’s a technique to destroy the opponent by hitting his weak points, but… it worked on even the hardest monsters, but it’s not able to stand up to this material…”
“Arara. It must be incredibly hard that Tito’s technique doesn’t work.”
“Yes… the ancient technique is truly formidable.”
Tito nodded dejectedly.
Lexia patted her on the back.
“Let’s take a break, you’ll get tired if you keep working too hard! I just bought some ingredients for lunch in a nearby town. Let’s eat together!”
“! Yes!”
Lexia pulled out a big chunk of ham from the basket.
Tito’s face lights up.
“Wow, a big ham! It looks delicious.”
“Yes! Let’s eat it with bread!”
Lexia immediately tries to cut the ham, but the blade won’t go in easily.
“Ara? It’s too big and hard to cut.
“Should I cut it with my claws?”
“It’s okay, Tito, just take a break! Mmmmm…!”
“Le-Lexia-san, don’t push yourself too hard…!”
Lexia tried different ways to cut the ham.
She set the ham up, laid it down, and changed the angle at which she inserted the blade… and suddenly, the blade was in.
“Ara? It’s so easy to cut at this angle!”
Seeing the beautiful cut, Tito was impressed.
“I see, so all I have to do is cut along the fibers!”
Tito was about to say when her cat’s ears perked up.
“Speaking of which, my master told me. No matter how hard a mineral or stone is, it can be easily shattered depending on the angle at which the force is applied.”
“I see, Tito’s master──Gloria-sama, the Claw Saint──knows a lot about minerals, doesn’t she?”
“Yes. If that’s the case!”
Tito stood up and rushed to the stone pillar.
With serious eyes, she traced the surface of the stone pillar.
“Ah, this stone has a pattern if you look closely!”
“Really, I didn’t even notice!”
Tito looked further into the stone and found a dot.
“I see it! Maybe if I hit that point…! Pressure Point Claws!”
BANG! RUMBLE, RUMBLE, RUMBLE! BOOM!
Aiming and thrusting at a single point, a crack quickly appeared and spread to the top.
Then, the huge stone pillar collapsed all at once.
“Wawawawa!?”
She hurriedly lifted Lexia to protect her from the falling debris.
Seeing the stone pillar collapse without a trace, Lexia was thrilled.
“Amazing, Tito, you broke the stone pillar!”
“Y-yes! It’s all thanks to you, Lexia-san!”
“Fufufu, it’s not that bad!”
Lexia puffed out her chest and closed one eye.
“With this, you can easily shatter the machine soldier’s armor! So let’s have a hearty meal! We have tea and dessert!”
“Y-yes!”
Lexia and Tito rested for a moment on the debris-strewn hill.
