Book 8 Chapter 34 - Slay The Xingtian
Book 8 Chapter 34 - Slay The Xingtian
Indeed, the Giant God Xingtian remembered everything clearly—deep within his very soul—whether it was that voice or that aura of restrained, hidden sharpness.
Back in the Age of Gods, it was with that very same gentle voice that the man had spent an entire afternoon urging him to surrender; then, just moments before sunset, the hidden edge within him had erupted, severing Xingtian’s head and killing him.
That terrifying aura—let alone the fact that the figure opposite him was merely wearing an incongruous ghost mask—was something he would recognize even if the man were reduced to ashes.
“To think you actually remember me.”
Bai Qiuran smiled at him.
“I’m truly touched.”
Xingtian instinctively took a step back; seeing his reaction and hearing the exchange between him and Bai Qiuran, Venerable Ran felt a vague sense of foreboding.
“Since this is a reunion after hundreds of thousands of years, let us dispense with the pleasantries.”
Bai Qiuran looked at Xingtian and raised his hand.
“Let us fight.”
Xingtian hesitated for a moment, then flew into a rage.
“Do you think I’m afraid of you?! I am the God of War!”
He hefted his massive axe and channeled his divine power; the terrifying blade tore through the wind and clouds as the unimaginably huge mass of iron hurtled down toward Bai Qiuran, who looked no larger than an ant in comparison.
Seeing Xingtian strike, Bai Qiuran pulled Jiang Lan behind him and raised a palm.
The axe blade sliced through the sky, causing ripples and distortions in space; turbulent air currents surged violently, sending the ranks of Underworld envoys within the spatial rift staggering about.
Yet, the axe blade came to an abrupt halt mid-swing.
A massive handprint, formed from wondrous True Qi, intercepted the God of War’s axe in mid-air; the chaotic energy unleashed by their collision sent wave after wave of ripples across the spatial plane of the Asura Realm.
At the same time, Bai Qiuran raised his other hand and struck out at Xingtian from a distance. A frantic warning signal flashed in Xingtian’s mind; he hurriedly sidestepped while simultaneously thrusting the massive shield in his other hand forward to meet the incoming force.
*Bang!*
A sharp, resounding crack echoed through the air, reminiscent of a heavy blow struck against a massive bronze bell.
Blood erupted from Xingtian’s body. As the smoke from the impact cleared, a colossal palm print was visible on the shield—a print that had punched right through the metal, revealing Xingtian’s arm twisted into a grotesque shape behind it.
Yet, he remained alive and still possessed the strength to fight.
After that single exchange, the onlookers fell into stunned silence; the Soul Takers within the spatial rift were awestruck by their new leader’s overwhelming power, while Venerable Ran—standing on the opposing side—dared not utter a word.
“You’ve grown stronger.”
Bai Qiuran withdrew his hands and smiled at him.
“That was exactly how I snapped your head off back then.”
Xingtian’s chest heaved violently. With his breathing, the blood spurting from his wounds began to flow back into his body, and his arm—twisted by the immense force—slowly snapped back into its original shape, accompanied by the teeth-gritting sound of grinding bone.
“Don’t think that Celestial Gods can’t grow stronger.”
Xingtian growled in a deep voice.
“Then, please take my second move.”
Bai Qiuran flipped his hand, and an unremarkable iron sword appeared in his grasp.
To avoid revealing his true identity to bystanders, he refrained from using the sword gifted to him by Jiang Lan; instead, he pulled a spare weapon from his storage bag.
He drew the sword and cast aside the scabbard, holding the blade level before him. A tiny white flame slowly ignited upon the cold, gleaming steel.
The flame spread until a thin layer of fire enveloped the entire blade; Bai Qiuran then raised the sword and slashed straight down at Xingtian. The white flames on the blade seemed to be flung outward; they detached from the sword, stretching into a white streak of fire before transforming into a crescent-shaped, blazing slash that hurtled straight toward Xingtian’s face.
Xingtian dared not be careless. His massive frame made dodging difficult, yet he twisted his body with all his might to avoid the direct path of the slash unleashed by Bai Qiuran. Even as he dodged, he swung his giant axe horizontally, striking at the incoming attack.
However, the moment the axe blade made contact, the slash suddenly expanded like a bomb. The energy within unleashed a terrifying, latent power, fracturing into countless streaks of searing white flame—each tracing the trajectory of a sword strike—that exploded outward. These streaks pierced through Xingtian’s axe, shield, and torso before finally dissipating in a massive blast.
Xingtian froze, his body standing motionless on the spot.
Three seconds later, a thin line of blood appeared across his upper body—stretching from shoulder to flank—and rapidly widened into a gaping wound. His upper torso began to slide slowly downward along this cut, separating from his lower body; as it slid, more bloody fissures appeared across his frame.
Then, a torrent of blood gushed forth. Xingtian’s weapons, shield, and entire body crumbled like a collapsing tower of blocks, shattering into fragments that fell into the black void left where the earth of the Asura Realm had once been.
His flesh and blood poured out, the fluid gradually filling the bottomless chasm, while the fragments of his corpse became floating islands upon this sea of blood.
Blood from his upper torso sprayed into the sky, falling as a torrential crimson rain; as it struck the sea of blood below, the surface level rose at a speed visible to the naked eye.
Jiang Lan produced a purple paper umbrella and opened it to shield both herself and Bai Qiuran from the bloody downpour. However, she was far too short compared to Bai Qiuran; even when standing on tiptoe, the rim of the umbrella reached no higher than his chin. Seeing this, Bai Qiuran shrank his body back to its original size. With a swift turn, he removed his battle armor and, amidst the glow of his True Essence, changed into a set of black robes.
He then took the umbrella from Jiang Lan, stood beside her, and looked up at the astonished Venerable Ran in the sky.
Having witnessed Xing Tian being torn limb from limb, the Immortal Venerable seemed dazed and unable to snap out of his shock; he stared blankly at the sea of blood beneath his feet, seemingly unaware that he was being drenched by the bloody rain.
“Stop staring.”
Bai Qiuran shouted up to him:
“He’s thoroughly dead.”
Venerable Ran snapped out of his trance and looked over, opening his mouth as if to speak, but Bai Qiuran had already reached out to grab him.
A vast surge of True Qi pierced through the bloody rain, seizing Venerable Ran in its grip. With a gentle jolt of power, the Immortal Venerable—who had mastered two cycles of reincarnation—was rendered unconscious, utterly unable to resist.
“Can’t be bothered to waste words on him.”
Bai Qiuran looked up at the Underworld Envoys hovering within the spatial rift.
“Take him into custody and bring him back for judgment.”
“Understood.”
The middle-aged Immortal Venerable—Venerable Bone—nodded. He extended his hand, and countless white bones flew from his sleeve, assembling into a cage-like set of shackles. These locked down Venerable Ran’s limbs and vital acupoints before retracting back into the envoy’s sleeve.
“And now, for this mess.”
Bai Qiuran looked down at the sea of blood and sighed:
“The very ground is gone; what are we supposed to do about this?”
Jiang Lan took a look, blinked, and then said:
“Qiuran, leave this problem to me.”
