Book 8 Chapter 35 - Do Your Best, Your Majesty The Ghost Emperor
Xingtian’s massive body was comparable in scale to the very earth of the Asura Realm; thus, upon his death, the blood pouring from his corpse filled the vast subterranean cavern, creating an ocean of blood within the realm.
Amidst this sea of blood, a few lucky Asuras from the Black Sky Asura Kingdom had managed to survive. They bobbed helplessly upon the waves, drifting with the current, unable to control their fate.
Bai Qiuran spotted the Hetian Asura King among them; the dark-skinned Asura was clutching a severed fragment of Xingtian’s body with all six arms, rising and falling with the bloody swells, terrified of being swallowed by the sanguine tide.
With Xingtian’s death, the divine power he had bestowed upon the Asura King rapidly waned, causing the King’s strength to revert to its original level—or even drop slightly lower due to the backlash of divine energy.
Yet, he was granted little respite, for powerful lifeforms began to spontaneously emerge from that vitality-rich divine blood.
Although Xingtian had failed to withstand even two moves from Bai Qiuran, he was, after all, a deity of the Heavenly Emperor class; the terrifying energy contained within his blood was beyond the imagination of ordinary beings.
Once the blood left his body and the energy was no longer suppressed by his divine soul, the sea of blood began to churn violently, coalescing into gigantic beasts of bizarre and grotesque forms.
These beasts were hideous yet ferocious; while they generally resembled worms, they possessed razor-sharp arthropod limbs and mouthparts—appendages that gleamed with a cold, lethal light, akin to the sharpest of weapons.
Upon birth, the monsters immediately began to slaughter one another, while others followed their instincts to devour the Asuras who had accidentally fallen into the sea of blood.
The Asuras were no pushovers, however; under attack by these ferocious creatures, the innate savagery in their bloodlines was instantly ignited, and they began to battle the monstrous insects within the bloody depths.
Ultimately, however, Asuras are not aquatic creatures; their combat effectiveness was hampered by the environment, and they gradually began to lose the upper hand. Some of the quicker-witted Asuras began climbing onto the shattered remains of Xingtian’s corpse. Floating upon the Sea of Blood, these fragments served as islands for the Asuras; once they had secured a foothold, they began to use their innate supernatural abilities to fight back.
“What a spirited race.”
Bai Qiuran shook his head.
Although the Asuras had been caught off guard by the sudden attack, once the battle with the insects began, some actually started to revel in the fray—leaving him at a loss for words.
In this regard, Heitian Asura King was truly an outlier; upon realizing the situation, he immediately sought out the nearest large fragment of the corpse, climbed onto it to take cover, and quietly conserved his strength—clearly plotting his escape route.
Bai Qiuran turned his gaze elsewhere. Jiang Lan had finished preparing her spell; she produced a long whip woven from green vines, holding the weapon in one hand while forming a hand seal with the other. A halo of light—far more solid and defined than those of the three Venerables—manifested behind her head, revealing the faint image of the celestial stars filling the firmament.
She opened her eyes, her beautiful gaze sweeping across the scene, and flicked a tiny speck of green starlight from her fingertip.
The starlight descended onto the Sea of Blood and instantly expanded outward. The insects grappling with the Asuras were utterly annihilated in a flash. Meanwhile, the waters of the sea began to clear; though the deep crimson hue remained, the foul stench vanished, and the liquid lost its thick, viscous, blood-like consistency.
The starlight continued to spread to the very edges of the Asura Realm. Jiang Lan used her magic to gather the drifting fragments of Xingtian’s corpse and weapons, compressing and fusing them all into a single, massive mass.
Then, with a sharp, commanding cry, she lashed out with her whip, striking the newly formed continent of fused flesh and metal. After being struck by the long whip, Xingtian’s flesh and blood slowly transformed into nutrient-rich soil; his meridians and internal organs became the subterranean ley lines, his metal and bones turned into mineral deposits buried within the earth, and the uneven contours of his body formed lakes, rivers, and mountain peaks.
In this manner, Jiang Lan refined his physical form, creating a new continent—encircled by a red sea—at the center of the Asura Realm.
*Clap, clap, clap.*
Watching Jiang Lan complete this feat, Bai Qiuran applauded from the sidelines.
“Qiuran, bring out that territory you stowed away.”
Jiang Lan said to Bai Qiuran.
Bai Qiuran nodded, then raised his hand to release the forces of Moko Asura King, along with the territory of the Moko Asura Kingdom, from his storage space; he fitted them seamlessly onto the continent Jiang Lan had just created.
He did this deliberately, placing Moko and his troops near Hetian and his remaining forces. Moko, who had been left somewhat bewildered after being handled by Bai Qiuran, was delighted the moment he laid eyes on Hetian.
“So, it was you, kid.”
He laughed heartily, clenching his fists as he strode toward Hetian.
“I thought I’d never get the chance to see you again—the Boss has truly treated me well! Hetian! Come and test out the new moves the Boss taught me!”
The two Asura Kings and their armies clashed once more, but this time, Moko’s side held the absolute upper hand, and Hetian had nowhere left to flee.
Paying no heed to the boisterous Asuras, Bai Qiuran closed his umbrella and walked with Jiang Lan toward the spatial rift.
“Ghost Emperor.”
The underworld envoys, including Lie Zun, saluted him in unison. This time, beyond just the original Three Venerables of the Ghost Realm, every single one of them wore an expression of genuine, heartfelt submission.
“You all head back now; we can find our own way.”
Bai Qiuran said to them. Three Venerables hesitated for a moment, but ultimately replied:
“Understood.”
Leading the Soul Takers, they turned and sealed the spatial rift. Just before the rift closed completely, Xue Ling turned his head to glance at the masked Bai Qiuran.
Then, the space sealed shut, temporarily severing the connection between the Asura Realm and the Underworld.
Bai Qiuran and Jiang Lan remained silent for a moment; then, Jiang Lan suddenly spoke:
“I need to return to the Fusang Immortal Palace.”
“What for?”
Bai Qiuran asked.
“To fetch some things so I can stay here for the long haul.”
Jiang Lan looked at him as she answered.
“Er…”
Bai Qiuran paused.
“Lan’er, you know everything?”
“I know you don’t want to be the Ghost Emperor; you don’t want to be bound to one place and lose your freedom.”
Jiang Lan said softly:
“But I also know that when the situation demands you step up and shoulder the burden, you won’t back down, will you? My Lord Immortal Ancestor?”
“Give me thirty years.”
Bai Qiuran said earnestly:
“Thirty years is enough for the name of the Ghost Emperor to shake the Immortal Realm, and to deter those petty scoundrels from daring to meddle with the cycle of life and death.”
“There’s no need to explain that; I certainly support you. And I imagine Xiangxue and the others will support you too.”
Jiang Lan shook her head:
“When I go back, I’ll stop by the Qingming Sword Sect in the Nine Provinces and Ten Lands to let them know.”
“Thank you.”
Bai Qiuran was deeply moved.
“Why do we need to thank each other?”
Jiang Lan stood on tiptoe and adjusted the mask on Bai Qiuran’s face.
“Do your best from here on out, Your Majesty the Ghost Emperor.”
