2461 - Christmas Extra Chapter: The Scenery I Wanted to See - Part 2
After watching the choral competition in the park, I walked once more along the bustling street together with Isis-san. There were plenty of Christmas-like decorations, and Isis-san kept darting her gaze around curiously, as if everything were new to her.
[……Christmas is…… a festival from Kaito’s world…… right? ……Compared to the Christmas in this world…… how is it?]
[Well, the decorations and the overall atmosphere feel pretty similar, I think. But the Christmas I can think of is more like having a party at home. You prepare things like turkey…… a whole roasted poultry, cakes, and spend time with people close to you, exchanging Christmas presents, that’s the image I have.]
[……You don’t really…… go out much around that time then?]
[No, not necessarily. A lot of people do spend it at home with their families, but there were also plenty who went on Christmas dates with their lover.]
When I think of my own Christmas memories, it’s mostly from when I was little….. nothing as grand as a party, really, just a day with slightly fancier food than usual with Mom and Dad. The main event was always the Christmas present waiting by my pillow the next morning.
I believed in Santa Claus until around the third grade, but even after I learned the truth, waking up to a neatly wrapped present by my pillow still made me happy.
Well, as for things like a lovers’ Christmas or a holy night, I never really had much connection to that sort of thing. So if you asked me what couples actually do on a Christmas date, I honestly don’t know all that well……
[……Then…… today…… it’s…… a Christmas date…… for me and Kaito…… right?]
[Yeah.]
Isis-san smiled shyly, and she was unbelievably adorable. Right, in the past things were different, but now I had a girlfriend so cute she could practically be called an angel. It made this Christmas feel like I was enjoying something entirely different from my childhood holidays.
[……There are lots of food stalls too. Since we’re here, should we eat something?]
[……Unn…… we eat chicken…… right? ……Then…… how about that stall?]
[……W- Well, we certainly eat chicken…… let’s stop by that one.]
The stall Isis-san pointed to certainly was selling chicken———- a yakitori stand. It wasn’t wrong; eating grilled poultry certainly counted. Still, whether yakitori should be considered a particularly Christmassy dish was a bit debatable.
That said, plenty of people eat fried chicken instead of turkey or roast chicken anyway. And as street food, yakitori on a skewer is easy to eat, so maybe it was actually the right choice.
As we moved in front of the yakitori stall, a pleasant, basil-like aroma drifted over. Instead of sauce or salt, it seemed more like basil chicken, and it looked delicious in its own way.
Since Isis-san said she didn’t eat very much, we bought one large skewer of yakitori with the intention of sharing it, then stepped away from the stall.
[……Kaito can…… eat first…… After Kaito eats…… I’ll eat too.]
[Got it. Then I’ll take a bite…… Oh, it’s light and really good. Go ahead, Isis-san.]
[……Thank you…… I’ll have some.]
The chicken on the skewer was fairly large and satisfying, and the basil-chicken-style flavor was really tasty. After I took one piece, I lightly held the skewer and offered it to Isis-san…… She moved gracefully, gently holding her hair aside so it wouldn’t touch the food, and took a bite.
Of the piece of chicken I’d eaten in one mouthful earlier, she only ate about a third, then smiled cutely.
[……It’s delicious…… But maybe the order was a mistake…… I should’ve eaten first…… and let Kaito eat the rest…… It’s…… a little big to eat in one bite.]
[That’s true…… Then let’s do it this way, Isis-san takes a bite, then I’ll eat the rest.]
[……Unn.]
Sharing a single skewer of yakitori like this felt surprisingly romantic…… it really made me feel like we were on a Christmas date.
Of course, even if it was a big skewer, it was still just one, so we finished it quickly. I tossed the skewer into the trash and started thinking about which stall to visit next, when suddenly Isis-san seemed to have noticed something.
[……Ah…… Kaito…… you’ve got a little sauce on you.]
[Huh? From the yakitori? Errr……]
[……Hold still.]
Before I could even ask “Where?”, Isis-san told me not to move. She gently placed a hand against my cheek, leaned in close, and lightly kissed me.
The kiss landed slightly off-center from my lips, followed immediately by the sensation of her tongue lightly licking the spot…… When she pulled back, Isis-san, somehow already holding a handkerchief, softly wiped beside my lips, smiling as she did so.
[……Ehehe…… now…… it’s clean.]
[Thank you…… Ah, but maybe there’s some on the inside of my lips too?]
[……Ah…… that might be true…… then…… I’ll clean it…… one more time.]
Perhaps realizing my intention from my words, Isis-san leaned in again, her face lit up with a delighted smile.
