2460 - Christmas Extra Chapter: The Scenery I Wanted to See - Part 1

Christmas was originally the celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ, and I’ve heard that the origins of the date itself trace back to ancient Roman Sol festival…… but that’s a story that belongs strictly to the world we once came from.

In this other world, Trinia, Christmas feels more like a festival handed down from the past Hero Actors, a kind of exotic celebration from the Otherworld. It isn’t recognized as having any particularly deep origins or intent, and is understood simply as a festive event, much like a holiday.

Well, even in the Japan of the world I came from, Christmas was mostly treated as a once-a-year event without much concern for its original meaning, so in that sense, maybe there isn’t much difference after all.

If there is one clear difference, it’s that Christmas in Trinia involves decorations going up all over the cities, and in the capitals of each nation, stalls line the streets, creating a lively scene…… Rather than spending it quietly at home with family, the atmosphere is closer to a winter festival.

Walking down a street crowded with people, but not so packed that you can’t move, I held hands with Isis-san. In the past, because of the influence of her magic power of death, participating in events like this would have been completely impossible for her. But now, thanks to an item she received from Canalis-san, as long as she maintains a barrier that prevents anyone below a certain level of power from coming within a 50 cm radius, she can walk through the city without any problems.

With Isis-san’s level of magic power control, excluding just me from the barrier is effortless, and as for the issue of her being a well-known figure as one of the Six Kings, using Recognition Inhibition Magic takes care of that as well.

She isn’t exactly as skillful as Alice, so if she directly speaks with someone fairly strong, there’s apparently a chance they might notice something off. Still, unless they’re of noble rank or higher, it seems extremely unlikely she’d be discovered, so we can relax and enjoy our date.

The only remaining concern is that if I call Isis-san by name, others might notice, but that’s handled by a portable magic tool, modified so that voices don’t carry to the surroundings.

That night, we were scheduled to have a Christmas party at Isis-san’s castle with the Six Stars, and it sounded like Eul and the others were enthusiastically preparing for it. I couldn’t help but feel excited already.

When Isis-san and I stepped into the park, filled with a festive buzz, the first thing that caught my eye was a large stage, and atop it, people who looked like members of a musical ensemble lined up.

[That makes sense. There are a lot of groups gathered off to the side of the stage, so it really does feel like a competition.]

The Christmas here had nothing to do with Christianity, so it wasn’t a church choir or anything like that, but the group currently up on stage happened to have outfits and a song that gave off exactly that kind of atmosphere.

As I stood a little distance away from the bustling stage, holding hands with Isis-san and watching, I noticed the bright, genuinely delighted smile on her face.

Back then, whenever Isis-san visited a city, it would practically trigger a state of high alert. Naturally, she would never have had the chance to watch events like this up close.
