Tomorrow is Christmas Eve, but I’m on a business trip, so the next update will be the day after tomorrow.

For now, I’m heading toward Suiren with Kaori-san, but we haven’t really made any concrete plans for what to do afterward. I do want to do a bit of sightseeing since I’m in the Friendship City, but Kaori-san is probably tired and would want to take it easy.

Of course, I could wander around on my own, but somehow that feels like a waste.

[Eh? A movie? Have recording magic tools developed that much already? Last time I heard, they could only handle about three minutes of footage at most……]

Kaori-san is right, recording magic tools, which are equivalent to video cameras in our world, are still a work in progress.

From what I’ve heard from Mom and Dad, magic crystals are good at storing magic power, but they’re not suited for keeping video data. Even high-purity crystals can’t store long footage.

The reason is that, by their nature, magic crystals constantly absorb ambient magic power, which affects the recordings they store. To protect against that, additional protective magic formulas need to be inscribed, which nearly eliminates the storage capacity.

So, in other words, developing something like a Blu-ray disc or other storage media equivalent is necessary, and various trading companies are already pursuing development in that direction.

Hearing the word “movie”, Kaori-san’s mood clearly brightened, and she smiled as she said it. Her reaction exceeded my expectations, but thinking about it, this is probably her first movie in over 10 years, so it makes sense that she’s excited.

Kaori-san also said she enjoys theater, so she likely likes narrative entertainment. Either way, I’m glad she looks happy.

I think part of it is due to the contract between Shiro-san and Makina-san, which placed global restrictions on reproducing mechanical products or misappropriation of technology.

Now, those restrictions have been relaxed, and recording magic tools and other new technologies are appearing. So, there’s a possibility that these fields will develop further in the future, and maybe something akin to the internet could eventually be created, but that’s still a long way off.
