Chapter 2578 - Demon Realm Amusement Park ⑨

The coaster picked up speed as it entered deeper into the rocky mountain, though it wasn’t excessively fast. True to the word “adventure”, it seemed to be the kind of ride where you progressed while enjoying the scenery around you.

It felt similar to those immersive coasters at theme parks where the vehicle shakes in sync with the visuals.

“……The inside is far more spacious than I expected. Large dragons could probably pass through here without issue…… Mm, the ones over there are……”

Just as Falcon said, the interior gave the impression of a vast, brightly lit cavern. Even from the coaster, it was obvious the ceiling was extremely high and the pathways unusually wide.

……But if they’d built it with this much space, didn’t that mean some enormous dragon was bound to appear somewhere?

Thinking that, I looked toward where Falcon was facing and saw a dragon covered in glittering crystal ores that resembled an armadillo, along with an iron dragon whose tail was shaped like a gigantic axe.

[A mutant subspecies of Crystal Dragon and a Special Individual Axe Tail……]

“Impressive. That glowing dragon is a Crystal Dragon…… and it appears to be a mutant that consumed large quantities of Light Crystals. I see now. The reason the entire cavern is so bright must be because this place contains an abundance of Light Crystals…… But that’s not all. The other one is an Axe Tail, yet its tail is single-edged. That makes it a Special Individual. Both are exceedingly rare dragons.”

Just as I heard Lilia-san murmur from behind me, Falcon began explaining the dragons ahead, and it matched exactly what Lilia-san had said.

She identified them instantly from that distance……? She’s seriously the real deal…… Come to think of it, she’d previously mentioned how Special Individual White Dragons have differently shaped wings, so she clearly knew a great deal even about rare variants.

“……Still, this is strange. Despite their appearances, both are docile species, but they almost never share the same habitat. There really must be something hidden within this rocky mountain…… For now, let’s continue onward.”

I was starting to understand the attraction’s storyline. They had come to investigate the mountain at someone’s request, only to discover the bizarre phenomenon of species that should never coexist living together, and now they were searching for the cause.

The coaster continued onward while passing several more dragons, until eventually something resembling an underground lake came into view.

“An underground lake. It’s enormous, and there’s even a current flowing through it…… Now that I think about it, there was a massive lake near this mountain. Perhaps the water flows there fro———!? Something’s coming from beneath the surface! Watch out!!”

As if responding to Falcon’s warning, the waters of the underground lake churned violently, and a gigantic figure burst forth. What emerged was a dragon with a squat, frog-like body. It was roughly five meters long, covered in deep blue scales…… probably some kind of water dragon?

[A Vodavise? But that species should inhabit the sea……]

“Impossible!? That creature is a Vodavise…… a violent dragon that lives in the ocean! There’s no way it should be in an underground lake…… No, we can think about that later. We’re getting out of here! This way!”

Lilia-san knew far too much about dragons. She identified it at a glance before Falcon did, and even pointed out that it was a dragon that lived in the sea.

Well, putting that aside, this was a coaster attraction, so there was no way it would suddenly turn into a battle. The moment Falcon shouted, the coaster rapidly accelerated, and the scenery began rushing past us.

A roar that was likely from that Vodavise echoed from behind, and the tension instantly shot upward. The coaster sped through the cavern far faster than before, while heavy thudding footsteps rang out behind us, making it obvious the creature was pursuing us.

Still, I can’t exactly judge it based on appearance, but it didn’t look particularly fast, and the footsteps gradually seemed to grow more distant. At this rate, we might actually esc———

“GROOOOOOOO!!”

The moment I thought that, a tremendous roar echoed out, far beyond anything compared to the earlier roar of the Vodavise. It shook the air itself with a violent tremor, causing the coaster to rattle.

Then immediately afterward, the coaster rotated a full 180 degrees to face backward. So it even had a feature like this? The production quality was incredible.

The first thing visible behind us was the pursuing Vodavise, though perhaps because it truly was slow-footed, there was still a fair amount of distance between us, but in the very next instant, a gigantic maw burst out from a side passage and sank its fangs into the Vodavise’s neck, effortlessly slamming the massive creature to the ground.

What appeared was clearly something dangerous-looking…… a savage bipedal dragon resembling a T-rex. The Vodavise seemed to have died instantly from that single strike, showing no sign of movement as it lay collapsed on the ground.

[A Miragaia? That’s rare! Even I’m seeing one moving around for the first time!]

Judging from how excited Lilia-san sounded, it must have been an extremely rare dragon. Its name, apparently, was Miragaia.

“M- Miragaia……!? Why would a monster possessing one of the highest combat capabilities among dragons be in a place like this……? This is bad. If it attacks us, we won’t stand a chance……”

Of course, this was only part of the attraction’s setting. Still, the reason it didn’t really feel that dangerous was probably because of the absurd combat strength of the people riding this coaster.

Even if that Miragaia were real and actually attacked us, the only ones who could truly be considered in danger would probably be me, Aoi-chan, and Hina-chan…… As for everyone else, they’d probably be able to dispose of it without much effort.

And honestly, judging from its appearance, aura, and the way it moved earlier…… it was probably genuinely considered powerful by monster standards, but in terms of actual strength, it still felt like the kind of thing Bell could kill with a single playful cat swipe.

<Afterword>

Serious-senpai : [Well, in fact, Lilia’s probably just enjoying getting to see rare dragons moving around, and from the perspective of those on the level of Peerage Holders, it probably feels about as threatening as watching kittens play-fight. But hypothetically speaking, if it actually attacked…… the one Miragaia absolutely shouldn’t target is the weakest one there, Kaito. That’s the unreasonable part……]

? ? ? : [……That Wyvern Ultimate Overkill Incident back then had been truly tragic.]

Serious-senpai : [No, rather than an incident, that’s more of a deliberate murder…… Though yeah, there’s no denying the wyvern was the real victim there……]
