Chapter 2580 - Demon Realm Amusement Park ⑪
The very first Dragon Adventure honestly exceeded my expectations by a huge margin. Despite its simplicity, it still felt like it had a proper story, and there were all sorts of fun gimmicks too, like the coaster flipping around so you could suddenly see what was behind you. It was incredibly enjoyable.
[That was amazing! I never expected an attraction with this level of quality!!!]
[It really was incredibly intense. The way the footsteps and roars made it feel like something was actually chasing us felt so realistic, and the part with the Dragon Orb, where it makes you think you’re safe for a moment before suddenly taking a sharp turn, was really well done too. Though, if I had to say one thing, the speed still felt a bit slow.]
[Ahh, well, that part can’t really be helped, can it? I felt the same way too. Even if speed wasn’t the main focus of the attraction, magic still has a pretty big influence on things.]
Personally, it felt pretty fast to me, but apparently for Aoi-chan and Hina-chan it wasn’t much at all. Well, Hina-chan could run far faster than any roller coaster, and Aoi-chan could probably reach the speed of sound without much trouble, so from their perspective it made sense that the speed felt lacking.
Compared to the roller coasters I’d ridden with Shiro-san before though, even I had to admit it felt slower. Even to me, it only registered as “pretty fast”, so just like Hina-chan said, this wasn’t really an attraction built around speed.
[It truly was a wonderful attraction! Not only were there many rare dragons that are normally difficult to see, but by introducing the fictional treasure known as the Dragon Orb, they were able to create combinations of dragons that should never naturally exist…… Being able to witness pairings unique to this attraction alone was absolutely marvelous. Though the speed of the ride certainly surprised me……]
[I was actually most surprised by that part. It was an unbelievably fast vehicle.]
[It felt similar to the cars that appear in those games Kaito-san has, but transporting this many people at that speed is truly astonishing. It would probably be difficult, but if something like this were developed as an actual means of transportation, it could completely change the world’s common sense.]
I already knew Lilia-san would get excited over anything dragon-related, but what surprised me was that Luna-san and Sieg-san also thought the coaster was unbelievably fast.
Still, after listening to them, I could understand why. From our perspective, it felt slow compared to modern roller coasters, but for them, this was a vehicle carrying a large number of people while moving vastly faster than a self-driving carriage. Naturally, that would feel fresh and astonishing.
Come to think of it, this world didn’t have railways or anything like that. Travel mainly relied on horse-drawn carriages, flying dragon services, ships, and Teleportation Magic.
Purely in terms of speed, flying dragon services might actually be faster, but because it travels through the air, it’s harder to really feel that speed.
Compared to that, a coaster racing along close to the ground probably felt far more impactful.
[So in Master’s world, vehicles this fast are treated as amusement rides. Truly impressive.]
[Ahh, but honestly, I don’t think it was actually that fast for a coaster. Like Hina-chan mentioned earlier, it wasn’t really an attraction focused on speed……]
[……Hmm, if we’re talking about an attraction centered around speed…… perhaps something like that over there?]
As I answered Anima’s question, Caraway pointed toward a spot a short distance away, and everyone, including me, turned to look.
There stood a fairly large signboard with the words “THE NEXT GENERATION OF ULTRA-HIGH-SPEED ATTRACTIONS! SONIC COASTER!” written boldly across it.
[Sonic Coaster…… Could it be an attraction themed after the Sonic Dragon, one of the dragons capable of extraordinarily high-speed flight?]
[As expected of Milady, you immediately recognized the motif.]
[ [ [ ……………… ] ] ]
As we listened to the conversation between Lilia-san and Luna-san, Aoi-chan, Hina-chan, and I all stared at the sign with conflicted expressions.
I understood exactly how the other two felt. More than likely, they were thinking the exact same thing I was.
[……You three? You all look rather puzzled. Is there something strange about it from the perspective of people familiar with amusement parks?]
[Ah, no…… I think it’s probably a type of roller coaster. You could even call it a classic attraction.]
[Just like Hina-chan said, it’s such a famous and standard attraction that even I, who’d never been to an amusement park before, knew about it, but……]
In response to Luna-san’s question, Hina-chan and Aoi-chan answered hesitantly. It was like they both felt something was off, but couldn’t quite put it into words.
[……How should I put this? Like Caraway said, that definitely looks like an attraction focused on speed, but…… honestly, I can’t tell what standard they used to design it. From the perspective of people who can use Body Strengthening magic, roller coasters from our world would probably seem slow. But if it’s balanced around the assumption that people are using Body Strengthening Magic, then for people who can’t use magic, it’d be dangerous enough to kill them…… It just makes me wonder whether roller coasters can even function in a world where there’s such a huge gap in individual physical abilities.]
Exactly. Even among just our group, if the ride were adjusted based on my standards, everyone else would probably think it was less “speed-focused” and more just plain slow, but if it were adjusted to Lilia-san’s level instead, it would basically become a machine designed to turn people into chunks of meat.
Still, they’d put up such a huge sign and were boldly advertising it as “ultra-high-speed”…… so maybe there was some kind of special mechanism involved?
<Afterword>
Serious-senpai : [Well, Alice obviously has experience with roller coasters, and Kuro’s ridden one before too, so I doubt they overlooked the issue of differences in physical abilities…… But just how are they planning to solve that problem……?]
