Chapter 2583 - Demon Realm Amusement Park ⑭

The starting point of the Kraken Cruise was, for lack of a better description, a sailing ship that looked like something a pirate would use. I had expected a small boat, but it was actually quite large.

Well, it had been made somewhat compact for an attraction, so it felt more like a small-to-medium-sized sailing vessel, but even then it was much bigger than I had imagined.

At the reception area, we were given instructions regarding the attraction. The Kraken Cruise used Illusion Magic, and no real kraken was involved. Because of the performance, there would be scenes where the kraken attacked the ship, but any counterattacks were to be carried out according to the guide’s instructions. Guests were not to use their own weapons or magic to attack.

[……So it’s really going to be a full-on battle with a kraken?]

[They mentioned following a guide’s instructions, so maybe it’ll be like Falcon from Dragon Adventure. A character like that appears and tells us what to do while we fight? There are cannons on the deck too, so maybe we’ll use those?]

Most of the attraction seemed to take place on the ship’s deck, and guests were apparently free to stand wherever they liked. The deck was equipped with cannons, ballista-like bows, and various other tools. Rather than the panic-inducing ride I had imagined, it felt more like an attraction where you physically fought against a kraken.

“Oh, so you’re the lot that wants aboard my ship huh!? I’m the captain of this vessel…… well, just call me Captain! While you’re on this ship, every one of you is my crew. Out at sea, you’ll follow my orders, so keep that in mind…… Alright then, we’re setting sail! Raise the sails!]

A man who looked every bit the pirate captain appeared, and the Kraken Cruise attraction began…… The ship started moving.

Oh, wow. The sailing ship was actually heading out onto the sea…… This was far more authentic than I had expected.

Captain looked like a pirate, but since the setting wasn’t actually that of a pirate ship, he probably represented a rough-and-tumble man of the sea instead.

“They say a kraken lives around these waters. No harm in staying alert, but no ship’s been attacked by one in years, so there’s no need to worry too much.”

Captain delivered what sounded like an obvious death flag, and as the ship continued forward, the sky gradually became overcast…… Eh? How are they doing this? The rocky area over there was still completely sunny, yet only the space above this ship had become cloudy. Was this Illusion Magic too?

“The weather’s turning ugly. The wind doesn’t feel right either…… We might have a storm coming. Alright, you lot, get below deck before the rain starts…… whoa!?”

Before Captain could finish, the ship lurched violently with a tremendous impact. The rocking should have been severe, but strangely enough, we weren’t being thrown around by inertia at all. The ship was clearly shaking, yet we could stand normally without feeling much of it. Some kind of protective magic was probably at work.

“What was that impact!?”

“Captain, l- look over there……”

One of the crew pointed toward the sea, where a gigantic squid tentacle emerged from the water. That was way bigger than I had expected…… If a single tentacle was this large, then the kraken itself would probably be well over thirty meters long. The sheer presence of it was overwhelming.

“A kraken’s tentacle…… It’s appeared!? Just the tentacle…… the main body must still be underwater! Oi, you b*stards, fire on that thing! Don’t let it wreck the ship!”

At Captain’s command, the crew opened fire with cannons and ballistae. The kraken’s tentacle recoiled and trembled as if in pain…… but in the very next moment, four more tentacles erupted from the sea.

“D*mn it, there are too many of them…… Oi, passengers! Give us a hand! Stand in front of a cannon or ballista and touch the magic crystal. A targeting circle will appear in front of you. Get the tentacle inside the circle, touch the crystal again, and fire!”

Alright, there’s our cue from the Captain. We moved to the nearest unoccupied cannons and ballistae. Following Captain’s instructions, I touched the magic crystal, and a targeting reticle appeared…… By adjusting the angle of the cannon or ballista, I could move the reticle around.

The cannons and ballistae were clearly attraction props. They were lightweight and could be moved effortlessly without requiring any real strength, making it easy to line up a shot.

When the cannonballs and bolts we fired struck the kraken’s tentacles, Captain shouted words of praise.

“Alright! Nice shooting! Keep blasting those tentacles! Stay alert though, they might come at us from directions other than the front! If we keep attacking the tentacles, the main body will eventually lose patience and show itself!”

I see. I think I’ve got the general flow now. We attack the kraken’s tentacles as they appear from the front, back, left, and right using the cannons and ballistae. Once we’ve dealt enough damage, the main body emerges, and the final battle begins.

The sheer presence of the kraken’s tentacles was impressive enough on its own, and even though it was just an attraction, it genuinely felt like we were fighting a gigantic monster. Honestly, this was pretty great…… I wasn’t expecting this kind of attraction at all, but it’s incredibly fun in its own way. Since I have basically no combat ability, I never get opportunities to fight monsters like this, so the experience feels surprisingly fresh.
