Chapter 227 – Remnants of a Miracle

The “Demon King and Queen Work Mode” was now complete, with the heads of the Merchant Guild, Adventurer Guild, and Sarz Administrative District all in one place, negotiating the price and discussing the draft business plan, as well as receiving a reward for purchasing materials that I had completely forgotten about.

After confirming the fact that eating a lot of sweets can make negotiations sweeter, all the troublesome matters were settled. It was a happy ending.

By the way, the grains I bought from Simon were supposed to be stored in the largest warehouse in Sarz, owned by the Merchant Guild. However, it is a warehouse located in the back of the guild. It is similar to the Adventurer’s Guild’s dismantling warehouse, where deliveries are inspected and temporarily stored.

After our usual cheerful breakfast, Myrril and I enjoyed a leisurely cup of tea.

“Takifu-san, Mir-chan. What are you up to today?”

“This time, we’re going to take a complete rest. We’ll go for a walk somewhere, spend some money, and broaden our horizons.”

“That’s right. I came to the Republic and haven’t seen much of civilian life.”

“Then what about the Ice Spear Shrine?”

“The Ice Spear Shrine? What’s that?”

I had never heard of it, but I could get a vague idea of the atmosphere from the letters that came to mind from the sound. Even Myrril didn’t make a vague comment like, “Is it delicious?” I wonder if it’s a tourist attraction near Sarz. If it’s not too far, let’s go there.

“It’s an old cave. It has been under the lord’s control for a long time because of the magic stone it produces. After all the digging was done about 20 years ago, it was handed over to the Merchant’s Guild and used as an ice house during the summer.”

A natural refrigerator, huh? It’s probably like a cool limestone cave that stays cool even in the summer. Even though it’s the middle of winter now.

“There’s a big waterfall over there. The water freezes in the winter, and you can go into the depths of the waterfall.”

“Huh, is there any treasure there?”

“No, I don’t think the lord would give up control if there was something like that.”

That’s right. Judging from Sandra-san’s expression, it was something other than money or treasure that made her recommend this place.

“I heard that if two people who love each other go there, they will receive the blessing of the fairies.”

“”Ahh…””

We looked at each other with a subtle voice.

“I’m sorry, but we…”

“…It’s kind of bad.”

“Eh?”

The other day, I don’t know what it was, but it was a portable miracle of the gods or something like that. A flash of light shone through the clouds and fell on us, and countless fairies and angels danced around us, scattering flowers and singing. I heard that rumor after rumor was spreading and that the situation had become so serious that it was difficult to control. We fled immediately.

“The old man from the “Special Zone for the Research of Magic” and the priests from the central area were about to come out in droves, you know?”

Later, Ecla-san told me with a smile that made me go pale. I’m sorry, but I don’t think it was our fault, you know?

“Don’t you like fairies?”

Sandra-san asked me suspiciously. I’ve never seen one that I liked or disliked.

“I don’t dislike them, but we just get along. You see, the beast is with me.”

“Oh, Moff-chan. He is so friendly that I forget that he is a snow-white wolf. Oh yeah, that’s right.”

Huh. Somehow, I managed to convince her. I’ve been so busy lately that I haven’t paid any attention to Moff, so let’s go play together.

…Or so I thought.

“He’s not here.”

Moff’s spacious and comfortable-looking hut was empty, and the door was carefully locked from the outside. It was a simple type of bolt, but that guy is very clever. Well, that’s good, but where did he go?

“Well, we’re talking about that monster here. I’m sure he’ll turn up eventually.”

“I guess so.”

We walked into town and out the west gate on the other side of town, looking around the shops and stalls.

“It’s a beautiful day.”

“Maybe the peak of the cold has passed. Maybe the cold has returned here as well.”

“I don’t know the meaning of that word anymore. But I kind of understand what it means.

“It means that after the coldest part of winter when the weather gets warmer and warmer, the cold comes back with an unexpected rush. Where I lived, it was like that every year.”

“In the Kingdom, the cold would usually subside, and before you knew it, it would be spring. Until now, we were so busy surviving that we didn’t have time to worry about it.”

It is true that taking a walk in the long, quiet afternoon is something you can do because there is no crisis and money is not tight. Or maybe you are unemployed and have nowhere else to go.

“I have Simon to thank for this…”

“He is the merchant you told me about. Please tell him how grateful I am. I couldn’t have survived without the forty-five.”

“Right…”

Before that, I would have died before I met Myrril. He’s helped me more than any non-standard cheat skill. And lately, he has become a much more solid, dependable, and good man.

Myrril-san is also getting better and better at being a Dwarf Warrior. I seem to be the only one who hasn’t changed much, at least on the inside.

“Yoshua!”

Myrril-san takes my arm and holds it in hers.

“You are my everything.”

“Eh.”

“It hurts my heart to see you like that.”

That’s right. I also don’t want her to feel depressed because of my problems. It’s a date, so I’ll just smile here…

“No. That’s not what I meant.”

I was told it wasn’t okay with a smile like the Virgin Mary. It was sweet, but I was at a loss for a response.

“I’m not asking you to wear a happy mask. If necessary, I will wear it with you. If you don’t like it, tell me, and if it’s hard for you, tell me. Whatever it takes, however much it takes, I’ll wear it with me.”

“Stop it!”

I can’t help but let out a stiff voice. Stroking her fluffy hair and holding her head in my arms, I hug Myrril.

“I’m going to be so in love with you.”

I can’t seem to hide my emotions when I’m with Myrril. The mask I wore when I was an employee of the company is falling apart and is useless. I think it’s too late to live honestly, and I’m afraid to expose my naked ego.

“That is only natural. Dwarves always repay what is done to them.”

Myrril smiles, her face slightly upturned.

“…Oh!?”

Her expression suddenly becomes tense. The almost fearful reaction is something I have not seen often. I can’t think of anything that would make her afraid…

“Yoshu… that is bad…”

“Hmm?”

Turning around, I couldn’t help but hold my breath. I saw the reason for the panic in Myrril’s eyes.

“Woof.”

I heard Moff’s voice from far away, which seemed to be in a good mood. I saw him running towards us from a distant canyon, hopping and jumping.

“…What the hell is that guy doing…?”

It was clear what the beast was trying to tell us. The surrounding area was a cloud-like haze of pale particles. They were rising and spreading out like undulating waves, and that’s the… Moff Sandra-san mentioned earlier…

“Woof!”

“I brought fairies!” It’s like he’s saying something like that.

No, there are tens of thousands of them!? There are too many of them, and they look really scary! If you bring them into the city, there will be panic! What are you doing, Moff?

“Go back where you came from!”

Leaving the innocent beast and the probably innocent fairies behind, we ran for the city gate.
