Chapter 324 – Conflict

The 14.5mm heavy machine gun rounds fired by Myrril had hit the outer wall at the end of the corridor with a loud bang, but the enemy damage was unknown. As long as we don’t know the size and total number of enemy troops, we can’t let our guard down, no matter how many we kill.

“We killed at least ten of them. There are still some left…”

“I’ll take care of it. Myrril, you watch our backs.”

“Understood.”

Behind us, there was the sound of something hard hitting the body of the Casspir, blocking the passage. There was no way for them to damage it, so it was more likely they were angry that their friends had been crushed than trying to break through. It was an unfortunate (and self-inflicted) accident, and I don’t want to be blamed for it.

I regain my composure and turn my attention to the road ahead. In the scope of the Dragunov, which had a subtle graphic scale, I saw a PMC in a prone position looking at us. He is shaking his head and calling out to his comrades as if he has not recovered from the confusion caused by the sudden heavy machine gun fire. It is unclear whether the bloodstains spreading around them are their own or not.

“Four… or maybe six.”

“The two on the right are probably dying.”

The four on the left try to fight back. I have the advantage in range and power with my weapon, but I am within range of the M4 as far as I know, being about 200 meters away. I took advantage of the semi-auto and sniped while probing. Although I was inferior in skill and experience, I managed to kill them before they did because of the difference in weapons. The two on the right did not react even though they were hit. They might have been dead by now.

“Threat elimination. Mir, I’m moving to the end of the corridor.”

I stowed the Dragunov sniper rifle and KPV heavy machine gun and replaced them with AKMs, and Myrril, armed with a PPSh-41, wrapped her arm around my neck.

“Yoshua takes the left side and I take the right. Can you put the Kyasupa away after?”

“Yes. As soon as we confirm that the forward threat has been eliminated, we’ll come back and take care of the rear.”

“Understood.”

As she gestures, she also says what is important and what needs to be confirmed. She does not use her “mind-to-mind” communication as a reason to neglect communication. This is typical of Myrril’s engineers.

“Teleport.”

I timed it out loud, just in case. Myrril immediately steps off and looks to her right, taking out something I can’t see with a 7.62mm pistol round. I look to the left, stunned by the bodies and wounded lying in the dimly lit corridor. I stowed the bodies away and finished off the remaining men with my AKM. Some were wounded and unable to move; others pretended to be dead, looking for an opportunity to fight back, but I shot them dead and put them in storage, regardless of their convenience.

“Threat elimination.”

“Here, too. You’ll put Kyasupa away. Are you ready?”

“Ready when you are.”

The distance is a little more than 200 meters, but it is individually marked and stored. Somehow, it worked. The man stepping on the footbellows at the far end of the room was hit by a Tokarev bullet fired by Myrril and fell to the ground.

“The threat has been eliminated.”

“If we’re dealing with soldiers with guns, let’s see what happens out in the open.”

I look down through a large hole in the wall, spectacularly collapsed by a KPV-heavy machine gun. The height from the ground is about 50 meters. It seems to be hitting the back of the building.

Below, you can see a training camp that is several hundred square meters square and stables lined up near the walls.

“Hmm… there don’t seem to be any horses.”

“Don’t tell me they sacrificed the entire population?”

“I don’t know, but that’s okay. If there’s no danger of stray bullets hurting the horses, we’ll take position at the end of the line.”

“Understood.”

I took out Casspir at the end of the teleported training ground and rode in to find out how the other side would react. I don’t think they have enough weapons to destroy an APC, but we need to get some information to deal with them.

“Do we have enough ammo for the KPV?”

“There are four boxes of incendiary grenades in a 40-round clip and more than ten incendiary armor-piercing rounds. I can buy more if needed.”

“For now, I need one box each. I’ll have more later.”

Myrril is checking something with her binoculars from the Casspir’s gun emplacement. She holds a PKM light machine gun and looks back at me as I watch from below.

“Just watch me, I’ll expose the boss of the ‘Piemusi’ soon.”
