Chapter 486: The Great Fall?
Chapter 486: The Great Fall?
"The Pressure?" x 2
Viesta and Emilio stared at Lillian with a mix of confusion and concern on their face. They had just witnessed the entire island crumble apart and fall into a deep abyss that was seemingly bottomless!
And yet they had to be ready for something else?
While the two made these expressions, the Captain was giving Lillian a horrified and pale expression as he fearfully muttered, "P-pressure...?"
In the next moment, a terrifying and invisible force fell upon them. The mana vibrated in the air, and the world warped as gravity doubled in effect.
Groans escaped everyone’s mouth as the very world pushed down on them, causing the wings of the Captain and Veista to falter and causing them to lose their leverage in the air.
They plummeted at twice the speed as normal and managed to reach the falling debris of the island, their bodies crashing through several stone debris.
Lillian, letting out a soft groan, braced herself as she looked around, finding herself surrounded by clouds of sand and dust, mixed in with large pieces of stone, which she used as platforms.
The mysterious force that had befallen them had long disappeared, allowing them to fall along with the island leisurely; only returning whenever the Captain or Viesta tried to utilise their wings.
Even the monsters around them that were capable of flight weren’t spared from this mysterious force.
It was an effect that only applied to those trying to escape the area!
Lillian took note of the monsters that fell around them. They were puzzled, baffled, and in utter shock. And yet, despite these feelings wandering around in their mind—
SWISH!
—They still obeyed their instincts.
Ducking under the swipe of a tiger-like monster, Lillian frowned and instantly dealt a killing blow to the underside of its chin.
[You have slain...]
Immediately pushing it away, Lillian looked around, taking note of where everyone was.
While the Captain had managed to keep a hold of Emilio and Jon, Viesta wasn’t so fortunate to keep a hold of Lillian.
Due to their fall, she had accidentally let go of Lillian, causing her to become separated.
Lillian’s eyes darted between several large stone debris, bouncing her gaze from them before settling on Viesta’s falling figure, who looked like a falling angel due to her wings.
After a few rapid breaths, she steeled her heart and leapt off the stone she was standing on.
Having mapped out the way to the falling woman, Lillian jumped and bounced between the falling stone debris with fierce dexterity. And whatever got in her way—
[You have slain...]
—Was killed.
Viesta groaned as she tried to make use of her wings, but due to the mysterious force earlier, she felt out of breath.
When she was about to try to balance herself through the air, she felt something grab onto the scruff of her neck.
Flinching, Viesta immediately turned her head around and found a smiling Lillian—her anxiety soon oozed out of her, dissipating.
But her concerns still remained.
"D-do you have a plan?" Viesta asked.
"Hm... Let’s regroup with the others first."
With a spin and a frightened yell from Viesta, Lillian chucked the woman towards the direction of the Captain.
Then, without delay, she transformed her arms into water.
The Captain, who had made his way onto the side of a falling tree, summoned a sensory Mana Pulse from his body—allowing him to map out his surroundings.
And, in range of his "mana radar", he sensed the presence of someone flying towards him. He looked up and widened his eyes, watching as Viesta fell towards him.
Summoning another pair of arms, he managed to catch the woman, who was slightly dazed.
"Yar could fly?! Tell me yar secret, matey!"
"W-wha—secret? I was thrown over here!"
"Thrown?"
Looking towards the direction she came from, the Captain spotted Lillian in the far distance.
Her arms, which were transformed into water, had lengthened and wrapped themselves around two large trees.
Then, like the marble of a slingshot, she launched herself towards the Captain with a cackle. And before she could shoot too far, she was caught by the Captain.
With all of them now regrouped, everyone simultaneously turned to Lillian for a plan, seeing that she always seemed to have one in every scenario. And with their current situation... They definitely needed a plan.
Lillian quickly noticed their combined gaze and shrugged, "Let’s try and survive the fall and get to the bottom first."
While the fall was a big issue, it was what they were falling with that was an issue. Looking around, they were surrounded by monsters on all sides—making their way towards them using the falling debris.
Since monsters needed to devour an organism that could store a large amount of mana to evolve, they ultimately went after the spot with the largest concentration of mana.
Specifically, where Lillian and the Captain were.
Moving around, the Captain leapt between debris after debris, dodging the swift pounces of monsters. Usually, if he were alone, he would take care of these beasts head-on.
But currently... He decided to leave it up to Lillian.
With a wave of her hand, Lillian summoned a volley of water spears that pierced through countless monsters.
[You have slain...]
[You have slain...]
Like a Gatling gun, she continued to fire with a seemingly never-ending supply; mainly because whatever was struck by her spears would instantly become a victim of her Parasitic Lines, which connected back to her.
An hour or so passed—they had now reached several kilometres down into their fall.
With the Captain’s swift movements and Lillian’s supernatural spatial awareness, they had managed to carve through the wave of monsters that charged their way.
And as they continued to fall, they managed to spot something that swam behind the cascading waterfall. It was ridiculously large and frighteningly long, having a body similar to that of a serpent.
One by one, more began to appear within the sea, their bodies appearing only as dark blurs as they circled around. There were ones that were around 20 or so metres long and others that were at least 60 metres long.
It was a horrific sight, but one that everyone knew so much, even though they had only seen their kind once.
They were leviathans...
Were they waiting for the sea to close in on them to devour them whole? Were they just spectating the sight and exploring the area that was now freed to them?
...
No...
It was more like they were preparing for some kind of war... A battle, to be specific—a battle to defend something that they valued highly.
"WHAT THE HELL IS THAT!?"
Everyone snapped their eyes towards Emilio, who pointed towards an extremely large and reflective glass dome beneath them.
"Is that a glass dome...?" Viesta asked, unconsciously clutching onto the arm that the Captain was holding her by.
Lillian shook her head, watching as they now dangerously neared it.
"It’s not glass..."
