Chapter 493: No Retreat Against the Sea Beast? [1]

[11:41 AM]

SPLASH!

After suffering from a severe blow to his lower abdomen, the Captain bounced along the surface of the water before coming to a dramatic stop.

"COUGH! COUGH!"

Floating on his back, the Captain coughed heavily, blood spilling out of his mouth as he clutched the area he was hit.

His form would then begin to shift around, his beard shortening and lengthening at a rapid and unsettling rate—his body even beginning to shorten before bloating back to its original size.

It was as if he was struggling to keep himself stable. And rightfully so, as he felt as though his entire internal organs were crushed and flattened.

After he had gotten a rein over his magic, which had been affected by his discomfort from the pain, he continued to hold onto his lower abdomen.

He felt the area throbbed with pain, his warm blood leaking onto his hand as it bled out of him.

His face wrinkled with pain, then with confusion as he felt something wriggling underneath his hand.

Weakly looking down, he found a black and viscous substance crawling over his abdomen like a slime. He tried to swat it away, but only watched as his hand passed through its illusory form.

The Captain scowled as he saw this and found his body becoming weaker as even more blood soon erupted out of his mouth.

That attack he was hit with must’ve inflicted him with a deadly and magical ailment!

What a venomous technique that was!

Transforming the layer of seawater beneath him into a wooden platform, the Captain got back onto his feet, albeit with significant difficulty.

His body swayed left and right, stumbling as the turbulent waves crashed against his raft. Fortunately, he still kept a firm hold of his cutlass.

[11:43 AM]

Slowly raising his gaze, he found the Drowned King holding a long harpoon made of water.

The Captain moved his gaze, following the direction that he was aiming in and widened his eyes as he found it was aimed at Lillian and his ship!

Judging from the mana output currently radiating off the attack, he doubted Lillian or his ship would be in one piece from that attack!

With a foggy mind, he willed the wings on his back to move, but found them too soaked and weak to do anything.

’CURSES!’ He shouted in his mind out of frustration, intending to pull something out of his spatial ring to hurl at the Drowned King.

He must get his attention back onto him!

"[4th Technique of the Abyssal Harpoon: Harpoon of the Black Tides]..."

Unfortunately, he was too late.

Despite the Drowned King’s voice being quiet, it still managed to reach his ears, as though the world wished for him to listen in despair as he watched a streak of black lightning crash onto his ship.

He watched as a barrier of water formed and prayed for it to defend against the harpoon, but was left with utter disappointment and fear as Lillian was sent through the deck of his ship.

And following that, he witnessed his ship crack and snap in half—its durable vessel that was able to survive a fall from a hundred metres tall was destroyed with a single throw.

Seeing this, he felt his connection to his ship fizzle out as it disappeared into a dense mist. This ship of his wasn’t an Item, a Shard, or a monster.

Instead, it was actually his ability—his Trait to be exact.

[Hull of the Damned].

It was a self-repairing ship that had the ability to provide him with survivability against the most harsh of wounds. As long as he was given first aid, even being cut in half would only be the past!

However...

If his ship were to be destroyed—

"AHK!"

—He would be inflicted with backlash onto his soul.

The Captain fell onto his knees, clutching his chest as he felt his heart clench and his mana core rattle—his face became pale and his blood went cold.

The damage he would sustain isn’t permanent damage, but enough to bring him a considerable amount of discomfort, considering it was comparable to having someone whip you in your most vulnerable area several times.

As the Captain struggled to get back up, something shot out from the water before him, pouncing and dragging him underwater!

It was the Twin-headed Seawater Leviathan, and it had chased after him!

The Captain gritted his teeth and clenched his jaw. His eyes, which were once coloured black, began to glow a faint dark blue light as he battled against the Leviathan under the water.

With whatever strength and might he could muster, he went toe-to-toe against the Leviathan in its own environment.

Waves overturned with their clashes. Steam rose with the evaporation of water from the Leviathan’s scorching hot mana. Tsunamis appeared with a flick of the Leviathan’s tail.

Not long into their fierce battle, blood began to dye the seas as they both bled.

By now, the Leviathan had lost a singular eye, but in turn, the Captain was covered in bruises and cuts—he was far more injured than the Leviathan.

Due to the ailment he sustained from the Drowned King’s attack, the pain to his soul, the blood leaking out of him, he wasn’t in the best condition to win this battle.

He tried to mend his wound as best as he could with his Element of Transformation, but there was only so much he could mend before they overwhelmed him.

By creating gills on his neck to support him in his fight underwater, he was at least able to hold his own a bit. However... The Leviathan’s abilities to inflict fatal wounds were above him.

He...

He didn’t know how much longer he could hold on.

[11:58 AM]

Deciding it was best to take this battle above water, he leapt out, immediately summoning a pair of wings as he was closely followed.

Once escaping to the air, he returned and began to unleash a flurry of attacks on the Leviathan.

"[4TH TECHNIQUE OF THE DEEP SEA HUNTER: DROWNING NET]!"

His cutlass streaked through the eyes, slashing rapidly as countless illusory nets formed, falling down on the Leviathan and the sea.

The water erupted outwards from where they were hit, but the Leviathan still remained in place, staring at him as only deep slash marks were made on its scales.

Instantly backing away several dozen metres, the Captain watched as the Leviathan opened both of its mouths and aimed at him; the back of its throat glowing a scorching hot blue light.

It was going in for another beam attack...

The Captain tightly clutched the handle of his cutlass. He wasn’t sure if he could defend against another one of these or be able to avoid it with his sluggish body...

Was he going to be able to survive this one?

Gritting his teeth, his body shook with rage. The Drowned King was right here! If he doesn’t exterminate this damn two-headed snake, how could he take revenge for his captain?!

’My crewmate is still fighting as well...’

The world paused for a fraction of a second, allowing the Captain to catch a glimpse of Lillian fighting desperately against the Drowned King, who didn’t seem even the slightest bit fazed.

How could HE think about losing when his crewmate was fighting for her life against such an opponent, FAR stronger than what HE was fighting!?

The weakness that was once spread across his face vanished, becoming replaced with a broad and toothy grin that was stained with blood.

He took a stance in the air and began transferring his mana into his cutlass. With this attack, he would be left with not even an inch or a sliver of mana left.

Not for an attack nor his form...

The Twin-headed Leviathan, who was still charging up its attack, watched as a long, slender, and girthy entity appeared high in the sky.

It was another Leviathan.

Transforming his cutlass into a leviathan, the Captain prepared himself and swung down while roaring:

"[5TH TECHNIQUE OF THE DEEP SEA HUNTER: LEVIATHAN’S DESCENT]!"

SWOOSH!

At his roar, his leviathan roared!

At his roar, the Leviathan below roared and released a beam of plasma-infused water from their mouths, fusing them together!

Soon enough, both the leviathan in the sky and the beam created by the leviathan in the sea met.

The leviathan that was held in the Captain’s hands widened its maw, revealing its sharp fangs as it bit down into the plasma beam.

And like the glutton that it was, it began to devour the beam, ignoring the scorching pain it was feeling as it felt its inside burn.

It became bloated the farther it fell and the more it devoured.

The air became dry. The humidity became boiling. And the mana became erratic at the activity between the two’s collision.

"HRAAAAH!"

The Captain let out another roar, pushing his leviathan further against the plasma beam and allowing it to eventually reach the two-headed seabeast below.
