Chapter 503: The Otherside? [5]

Chapter 503: The Otherside? [5]

{Emilio’s POV}

[12:22 AM]

"PUAGHK!"

Blood gushed out of Jon’s chest like a fountain as the Drowned King’s harpoon pierced through his heart, crushing it instantly under Emilio’s despairing wide eyes.

The light in Jon’s eyes soon faded as he fell into an eternal slumber, something that caused both Emilio’s and Viesta’s hearts to ache as they watched his body become fully limp.

He... He was dead...

Thud...

With a fluid swing, the Drowned King swung the deceased Bodyguard off his harpoon without a thought of remorse.

And why should he? Why should he show mercy towards invaders of his home?

"2 down... 3 more to go—"

The Drowned King noticed something in the corner of his eyes and was interrupted mid-sentence by Emilio, who swung the pulsating red energy hammer.

BAM!

Emilio’s eyes were bleeding with tears as he landed a clean blow on the side of the Drowned King’s head, achieving minimal damage besides staggering the man.

If only he were faster... If only he were faster to prevent such a thing from happening... If only he were fast enough to save Jon before he was killed by the Sea King!

Why? Why was he blessed with such horrid talents despite the family he was born into? If only...

’If only I were stronger...’

If only the heavens had gifted him their blessings when he was born, then he would’ve been strong enough to prevent this from happening! WHY WAS HE THE BLACK SHEEP OF THE NIGHTRAVENS?!

"It’s too late now..." Emilio growled, raising the weightless battle hammer again and the nail in his other hand.

The Drowned King, recovering from his staggered state, raised his harpoon and stabbed at Emilio, who suddenly vanished before his eyes.

With his black feathery cloak, Emilio sank into the surrounding darkness. And as he did that, he left behind a handful of bullets of light and darkness that shot towards the Drowned King with clumsy precision.

They were swift, but fragile, as just a single casual swing of the man’s harpoon was able to destroy them. However, that was enough to buy the Nightraven time.

Appearing behind the Drowned King, Emilio delivered another staggering swing on the man.

BAM!

"He was my beloved Bodyguard—no... Friend!"

He then did this over—

BAM!

"He had a wife!"

Over—

BAM!

"And children!"

And over—

BAM!

"And you took him from us!"

With his rapid movements and the buffs given to him by his equipment, Emilio managed to land attacks over again. And time after time, that very same equipment saved his life from what would’ve been certain death!

Currently, his chestplate was in tatters as deep marks were crossed all over it, despite the quality of the material it was made out of.

What was that harpoon that the Drowned King wielded!?

[12:26 AM]

BAM!

While the Drowned King was afflicted with spatial warping, Emilio quickly held up his hand and summoned a large orb of light and darkness.

"So, pay with it with your damn life, Mighty Sea King!" Emilio hissed in a sarcastic manner before raising the orb towards the Drowned King.

In the past, the beam he had once been able to summon was barely as wide as a pool noodle due to his poor mana reserves, but... With Lillian’s Affinity pills, he was able to go even further!

’This...’

He then roared with fury:

"THIS IS FOR JON!"

’THIS WILL BE MY STRONGEST ECLIPSE BEAM YET!’

Light and darkness exploded outwards from his palm with an explosive power that reflected his burning fury for revenge.

The beam that erupted from his palm, growing past the diameter of a pool noodle to the size large enough to engulf the 6-foot man, who took it head-on!

The pillar that stood behind the Drowned King was engulfed by his attack as well and had begun to erode and crumble from the pressure of his beam.

Soon enough, Emilio’s beam dissipated as his mana reserves were emptied...

"Huuuh... Huuu..." Emilio’s face was drenched completely in both sweat and blood; he was tired and in pain—physical and... Emotional pain...

’Did I do it...?’

Lifting his eyes, Emilio looked up to see what had happened to the Drowned King.

But then—

SWIP!

—Something flashed through the air.

{A Shard has been shattered.}

In an inch of a second, the Drowned King carved through Emilio’s highly durable black chestplate, causing it to explode into a cloud of glittering dust.

Even the red battle hammer was destroyed and shattered into pure energy.

Emilio slowly took a step back as the protective embrace of his chestplate disappeared. The comfort he felt was slowly replaced with pain as his clothes underneath were dyed red as his blood bled out in an X-shape.

"PUAGHK..."

The taste of iron erupted into Emilio’s mouth as his blood spilt out through the corners of his mouth, soon out of the corners of his lips.

The Drowned King, stepping through the dissipating light and darkness that were once used to attack him, stood before Emilio.

His body was covered in light burns, the first piece of damage made on his body.

"... Your attack singed me... Even if this body is operating at 30% of what it used to be capable of, you managed to achieve something noteworthy, human..."

Gripping his harpoon, the Drowned King added:

"Well done... Now perish with my words in mind..."

SWIP!

[12:28 AM]

...

Emilio, who wasn’t in any condition to dodge, was unable to avoid the harpoon that stabbed through his lower abdomen.

As blood gushed out of him, pain flooded his entire system. It was a burning and cramping pain as he could feel his abdominal muscles struggling to move around with the harpoon in the way.

Blood continued to gush out of his mouth as the cold embrace of death began to show its presence in the corners of his vision—darkness...

He was about to die... For real this time...

’I’m sorry for being weak... Everyone—...’

"EMILIO!"

But when he was about to fall asleep and drift into the land of eternal slumber, the cry from a familiar feminine voice awoke him.

It was Viesta.

Before he could react and process the calling of his name, the Drowned King threw his body off the harpoon, causing him to land with a wet splat right in front of Viesta and the Jungle Lord.

Viesta, who had just healed her wounds with Lillian’s health potions and also fed the Jungle Lord fresh corpses given to her by Lillian to keep him from going berserk, quickly approached Emilio’s body.

He was losing body temperature quickly...

She hurriedly emptied the last health potion she had left into his mouth, but all it seemed to be able to do was replenish the blood he had lost—just to give him a few more minutes or a few dozen seconds to live...
