Chapter 519: Upgrade in Beauty?
Chapter 519: Upgrade in Beauty?
Below a gorgeous night sky without a single storm cloud in sight to ruin the day, a crack in space emerged—warping itself into a portal that hurled out five individuals.
Nearlo, Viesta, Emilio, Jon, and lastly, Lillian.
Escaping through the portal and regaining consciousness, everyone quickly realised that they were headed straight into the sea.
Nearlo, with a swift swipe of his hand, summoned his ship that crashed into the surface of the sea.
Landing and rolling against the wooden deck of his ship, everyone slowly pushed themselves up into a seated position—rubbing their heads from the disorienting warp in space.
Everyone then looked around, admiring their surroundings, as the reality that they had finally escaped the Trial finally settled in as everything slowly compiled in their mind like a compilation.
Emilio, who had pushed himself to his feet, gave the person beside him a glance before widening his eyes, stunned.
Standing beside him was none other than Viesta, but that wasn’t what caught his eye or caused him to widen his eyes out of shock. It was because...
"M-miss Viesta, you look stunning!" Emilio shouted.
Upon arriving out of their Trial, everyone had gone through a huge upgrade in appearance.
Viesta, having now grown an extra inch compared to before (5ft10), was now much more beautiful—she almost seemed like an entirely different person.
Realising that she had grown a bit taller, she turned to Emilio after noticing his gaze and discovered that he too had grown a bit. But not only that, but his jawline had become even sharper, leading to a more masculine face.
On top of his already handsome visage, because of his genetics, he became a rather attractive man who even caused Viesta to glance away for a split second.
After a moment of idle chatter, they turned to the others and found them to be in the exact same situation.
They turned to Jon and found that he had become larger.
They turned to Nearlo, who had grown 3 inches—making him now 5ft3. However, they didn’t have long to stare at his face before shielding their eyes.
Due to him now being a Tier 4 mage, he was granted an obscene amount of beauty; suppose the Gods liked rewarding daring individuals for their efforts.
Then...
They turned to Lillian, who was half-groggy and was holding a hand over half of her face.
Lillian, having just woken up, felt a sense of soreness in her mind followed by a feeling of numbness. She was... Alive, right? They’re back on Earth, right?
Still ignorant of the changes that had occurred with her body, she looked around before settling her gaze on everyone, particularly, on the two—around her age—staring at her intently.
She hummed, silently discovering an upgrade in their appearance, before widening her eyes a bit in surprise as:
"Emilio... Is your nose bleeding?" Lillian inquired.
Emilio, feeling something warm run out of his right nostril, quickly raised the back of his hand to wipe it away as embarrassment flashed in his eyes.
Out of the risk that may happen to her, Viesta turned her eyes away from Lillian—reacting similarly to how she did to Nearlo.
With a confused look on her face, Lillian tilted her head cutely before chuckling nervously at the stares she was getting.
Whistle~
"Arr~... Yar sure did go through a glorious transformation, crewmate!"
Twitching at the sound of a whistle and a familiar voice, Lillian turned her head towards Nearlo and found him approaching her with his hands in his pockets.
Lillian slowly squinted her eyes, affected by the blinding light that was his handsome face.
"Ah, captain. Glorious? Do I really look that different?" Lillian flicked her wrist and summoned an oval-shaped mirror out of water.
She looked at her visage.
"What the—!"
Staring at her face, Lillian finally figured out the reason for the strange looks she was getting!
The transformation that they all had undergone had seemingly boosted Lillian’s original beauty by almost threefold!
Her skin was as smooth as polished jade, her lips now had more of a soft, rosy pink to them compared to before, and her eyes were sparkling with even more brilliance than even the most prized of jewels.
Quickly standing up, Lillian measured herself and found out that she had grown roughly four inches taller compared to before, making her 5ft9!
She knew that the higher-ranked the Trial was, the more benefit it brought after completion.
But.
Wasn’t this too much of an improvement!?
Staring at her face a bit longer, Lillian slowly began to twirl a lock of her hair as a rosy-pink blush gradually appeared on her cheeks.
’I wonder how Marionette would react...’ Lillian thought shyly.
She was soon broken out of her shy daze as an arm wrapped around her neck.
Looking up, Lillian discovered the arm belonged to none other than Viesta, who was grinning at her broadly.
"I couldn’t say this before because of the timer, but ya really did it! You really did managed to get us all out of there alive!" Viesta cheered.
Throwing the water mirror into the sea, Lillian smiled a bit before scratching the back of her head with humility.
"I didn’t do much..." Lillian glanced at her face before staring at the others, "It was all because of you guys that we were able to get out alive, I just... Guided you guys along."
Everyone smiled at her words, pride swelling inside their chest.
Nearlo then laughed.
"KAHAHA! Just yarself some credit, matey! Even if it was yar fault, without yar future sight, we wouldn’t have gotten out!"
"Eh?" Lillian froze.
At the cost of convincing the captains, she had also caused Nearlo and everyone else to overhear her secret.
Now then, was it unfortunate for them to know about this secret? Possibly... Was she fine letting them know as long as they kept quiet and didn’t ask about anything? Sure—
"Oh, right! What was that about a great darkness and vessel?" Viesta asked, curious.
She had always wondered how Lillian was so knowledgeable about things she shouldn’t know. So now that she knew how, there was no way she wasn’t going to ask at least something.
Lillian, hearing the question, sighed as she noticed the stares.
Pulling out a partially jagged mask from her spatial ring, the Mask of Deceit, Lillian wore it.
Then, through the mask, she began to hypnotise them with her words, making them forget she had ever spoken about her knowledge of the future—gaslighting them, pretty much.
It may seem selfish, but she felt like holding onto her secret just a tad bit longer before letting everyone know.
’Ah, I should probably make them forgot I ever wore this mask.’
She wasn’t sure why, but exiting the portal, her lost memories flooded back into her mind. And one of the memories she got back was her fight with the Twin-headed Seawater Leviathan.
While it probably wasn’t needed for them to forget about her ever using the mask, she felt like she might as well.
After doing all of that and staring into everyone’s blank eyes, she pointed behind them.
"There’s a monster over there."
When everyone turned around, Lillian quickly hid her mask back into her spatial ring. She then waited for everyone to turn around.
Emilio, scratching the side of his head in a confused manner, muttered:
"Huh... I swear I was told a monster was right behind me."
"Same here..." Viesta murmured before looking around, "Hey. Where did that masked person go?"
Lillian, smiling gently while almost mischievously, shrugged.
"I don’t know what you guys are talking about."
After a bit of chatter, everyone’s attention was soon drawn to Nearlo, who had set up an assortment of furniture on the deck of his ship, which had been stolen from the temples.
And placed on top of them were a variety of beverages, more accurately, alcoholic beverages—something that he had stocked up on in the supply island that they had previously come across.
Standing on top of a table, Nearlo spread his arms out as he declared:
"As a commemoration of our success of completing that Trial and all coming out alive in one piece, I suggest we have a GRAND CELEBRATION!"
Hearing the words Grand Celebration, everyone’s eyes lit up with stars as they cheered.
Nearlo picked up a large bottle of rum and held it towards everyone with glass mugs in his other hand, "I believe yar all of age, correct?"
One by one, Nearlo began to pour everyone a glass of rum before breaking out into a chuckle, "KAHAHA, not like it’ll matter unless yar all tell on me to the authorities!"
Upon being handed a glass mug of rum, Lillian’s eyes sparkled as her mouth seemingly watered. Getting drunk as a form of celebration for almost losing her life several times? What a great way to start a party!
Right as Lillian was about to have a sip, she suddenly stopped.
Nearlo—who had handed a mug over to Viesta, who seemed rather hesitant—felt a hand land on his shoulder.
Looking back, he found the hand belonged to Lillian.
"Hey, captain. Do you have any soft drinks?"
"Soft?" Nearlo repeated, then realised what she wanted. "Not a drinker of alcohol are yar, I see?"
Lillian smiled a bit at his question, a look of warmth and remembrance appearing in her eyes as she responded with:
"No, I was... I just want to cut back on it until I know it’s fine."
During the time in the Trial, she had realised a lot about herself that she wasn’t knowledgeable of before; her state of mind and habits that had most likely affected her relationship with a certain beautiful Assassin.
If she wanted to be a better lover, then...
’I should begin cutting back on some of my bad habits and cravings.’
Although she wasn’t aware of most of them yet, she at least knew one. And she was going to begin with it—cutting alcohol out of her life.
After being given the choice between lemonade, apple juice, or soda, Lillian joined in with everyone.
The party wasn’t extravagant by any means, although she hadn’t really participated in a party before, but there was one thing for certain.
They were all alive and well.
