Chapter 555: Preparation of an Attendant?
Chapter 555: Preparation of an Attendant?
Afterwards, the two of them would talk for the next half an hour until a maid of the mansion knocked on Lillian’s door and handed her a set of uniform - a maid uniform...
After saying goodbye to Marionette and hanging up, Lillian stared down at the uniform that lay spread out on her bed; she couldn’t help but feel her dignity might take a hit by wearing this...
Lillian sighed deeply as she took her clothes off and tried them on.
Surprisingly, they fit well, especially when she stood in front of the mirror to gauge how she looked. It was safe to say that she looked rather well in a maid’s uniform...
’But I can’t say whether or not I like it or not...’ Lillian smiled wryly as she soon heard a knock on her door.
"Young Miss, are you finished dressing?" An elderly voice resounded from behind the door. It was Houston, the Head Butler.
After giving him permission, she watched as the doors to her room were pushed open by a tall elderly man who exuded the aura of a Tier 3 mage.
He bowed slightly.
"Sir Gardener had insisted that I begin your training. I hope you do not mind, miss."
Lillian shook her head.
"I prefer it that way, actually." She smiled. "But could I ask what we will begin with?"
And before Lillian knew it—
"Take these and begin cleaning the entire ballroom by yourself."
She was tasked with every job the servants of the manor would do, from cleaning, polishing, laundry, trimming bushes, cooking, and cleaning again...
"You’re the one bringing me these?"
She would even be tasked to fetch items for the Gardener from time to time.
"Haha... It seems so..." Lillian chuckled with a crooked smile as she handed over a tray of materials.
In the game, she was given the idea that an attendant was more like a bodyguard who personally assisted their clients. Being the attendant of a Scion didn’t require much, so...
Was cleaning of this size truly part of the job?!
Taking a peek inside the room the Gardener was in, Lillian found an entire chemist’s lab inside.
’Interesting...’
"Well, hurry it on. As an attendant, you don’t have all day to linger."
Lillian snapped out of her thoughts and glanced back at the Head Butler behind her. After the Gardener closed the door, the Head Butler quickly ushered her back to work.
Tasks that would’ve taken more than one servant to do were handled by her solely, all while under extreme scrutiny by the Head Butler.
"Too dirty! Clean this spot again." The Head Butler pointed towards a spot after wiping his gloved finger.
Lillian’s eyes twitched rapidly as she stared at the spot that was claimed to be dirty. She wasn’t sure if she was visually impaired or something, but the area was polished to the point that Lillian could see her reflection!
With frustration, Lillian cleaned the spot again - only after a few more times was it considered acceptable.
Although cleaning was easier with her magic, she felt that...
’This is so much more difficult than fighting...’ Lillian internally groaned, wiping down a surface.
Only when the clock ticked 6 pm would she be allowed to rest.
Lillian slowly limped back to her room, her arms sore and her eyes sunken with tiredness - leaving the Head Butler to assess her work.
The Head Butler walked around the mansion, looking over Lillian’s work and checking off boxes from his clipboard.
"Hm... Misplaced item. This spot still has a sign of dust..."
The task he laid out for Lillian was more of a test for him to gauge Lillian’s current skill level.
He continued to mutter a bit more. From time to time, he would be impressed with Lillian’s handiwork. But under his decades of experience in butlership, he was able to grasp the smallest of errors - some may even call this nitpicking.
But to become the attendant of a member of such an infamous family required the hardest of work!
As he continued to walk around, he then stumbled upon the Gardener who had left his lab.
"How did she do?" The Gardener asked.
The Head Butler looked over his clipboard, "Well, we can definitely check off the laziness aspect to her. It seems she knows her way around cleaning, but not enough to match our standards."
Saying that, Houston placed a hand on the right side of his chest and bowed, "I shall do my best to mold her into an excellent servant for the young mistress."
...
"That guy made me clean out everything!" Lillian ranted, holding her phone close to her ear.
Exiting the showers, Lillian was now dressed in a new pair of pyjamas - wiping her hair down with her towel as she strolled over to the side of her bed.
Marionette hummed through the phone. "Even if all that you did may seem unnecessary, an attendant is a servant at the end of the day. And a servant of mine, to be exact."
Lillian pouted and sighed, "Yeah, I understand. But anyway, I suppose it’ll be worth it in the end... Especially in the future."
"... Could you please expand on that last part?" Marionette inquired.
"Eh~?" Lillian smirked smugly before opening her mouth to answer.
Marionette, who had the speaker of her phone pressed closely near her ear, shivered a bit at what she heard next.
"Oh~... You know~ cleaning... cooking... Housewife stuff, you know?" Lillian’s voice turned seductive as she cooed, "You’d want that from me, wouldn’t you~?"
Marionette blinked at what she heard, and she then answered without hesitation.
"Absolutely. Is this confirmation that you would like to get married?" Marionette asked with a straight face.
"W-wha—W-well... I suppose it is, isn’t it?" Lillian responded shyly. "It’s not like I would want anyone apart from you..."
Marionette felt her spine shiver in ecstasy as goosebumps appeared on the surface of her arms; her cheeks subtly turning pinkish. She then went silent, becoming shy as well.
And for the next 2 days, nothing - apart from Lillian’s attendant training, her talk over the phone with Marionette - happened.
It was nearing the time of the Legacy Table.
While Lillian strolled through the corridors of the mansion, holding a basket of dirty laundry, she discovered something upon walking around a corner.
Hiding, Lillian watched as the maid who had shown her to her room on the first day stood in front of a room with a tray; more specifically, the room that was beside hers.
The maid seemed to be of much better health compared to before, with her arm now fully healed.
Lillian wasn’t sure why, but the moment she first laid eyes on the woman... She felt familiar... Incredibly familiar...
"I’ll be leaving this outside, young mistress." The maid lowered herself to the ground and placed the tray down - it was a metal tray of food.
After the maid left, a moment of silence passed before the lights on the ceiling began to flicker. Suddenly, Lillian’s surroundings were flooded with darkness, causing her to go blind.
Then, her vision returned a few seconds later.
Shocked by what happened, Lilliian stepped around the corner she was hiding behind and walked over to the closed room.
’The tray...’
The tray of food that was placed in front of the door had completely disappeared without a trace!
Standing before the door, Lillian placed the laundry basket down. She was curious...
Was there something behind this door? Or someone?
With slight hesitation, Lillian held the back of her hand to the door - intending to knock on it before...
"What are you doing?"
