Chapter 586: Jacksmeare?
Chapter 586: Jacksmeare?
Emilio gazed at her, then raised an eyebrow, "Are you talking about the Bloodhounds? I’ve heard they’re just a bunch of cold-hearted criminals hired by the Darkhound family. Apparently, they’re pretty strong."
Marionette nodded, "You’ve seemed to know the bare minimum. Yes, they’re a group of cold-hearted criminals. What makes this group so elite and special is that some of the members were actually part of the mercenary group called the Jacksmeare."
"J-jacksmeare? Like THE Jacksmeare? The one that started the whole mercenary thing and the one Ryozan Eryndor, the Strongest Mercenary Mage, worked in?" Emilio asked, shocked by this information.
Lillian blinked at the name ’Jacksmeare’ and fell into thought, grasping all the information she knew about it from her mind.
Jacksmeare, a name derived from the word of an old dialect that meant to ’dirty one’s hand beyond washing’, has been known to commit many infamous deeds in the early modern era.
Been rumoured to exterminate an entire bloodline because they made a single offence to one of its members, making a siege on an entire fortress guarded by mages, even going as far as attacking an entire city, etc.
It was such a large group that it was split into three divisions named ’Pillars’, each overseen by a powerful Tier 4 mage.
Rumours had it that these three powerful mages were under the orders of a Tier 5 mage, but that was never confirmed.
The Butchers, the Black Ledgers, and the Pale Circle; each division known for a single purpose - frontline, intelligence, enchant and forge.
Their reputation in the early modern era was so wide and bloody that even a newborn would be taught to fear the name and to avoid coming in contact with any members of the group.
Even the Saints in that era, individuals known to be chosen by the Cardinals Gods and were undoubtedly the strongest, were hesitant to go against such a group, fearing that it might risk mass death and destruction.
Still, in the modern era, the name Jacksmeare was well-known - even made an example of loyalty due to the group’s rule of following a contract to the letter, albeit rarely, as uttering the name was considered taboo.
Fortunately, such an infamous organisation had bitten the dust and collapsed due to an internal conflict.
It was rumoured to have been destroyed by a high-ranking Butcher because his leader had put out a high-value hit on him.
That high-ranking Butcher’s name was Ryozan Eryndor, the man now known in the modern era as the Strongest Mercenary Mage.
Lillian slowly thought back to the old man she had helped back in Luton, the person who had been disguised as that very Ryozan Eryndor.
She then thought back to the coin she received from him.
It was famously known that Ryozan had an ability related to seeing in the future, but also had an element that allowed him to take control of both inanimate objects and even living beings as long as they submitted to him.
This ability of his was called the Element of Domination, something only known to her and Ryozan; the man was very secretive about his abilities.
However, considering the man was a Tier 5 mage, he had more abilities than these two.
The Element of Contract, Contract Empowerment, and Absolute Judge - these were the three other abilities he has, with all of them tying into each other perfectly.
He was able to create contracts with both living and non-living beings and objects, make deals go towards his favour, and was basically the embodiment of ’Making a deal with the Devil’.
With each active contract he had, the stronger his abilities got, even stronger if the contract he had was of high importance and value.
As for Absolute Judge... It was safe to say that was Ryozan’s trump card if he didn’t want to resort to using his Aberrant form.
The coin he had given Lillian as a sign of small respect was actually a contract she could form between them, one that intentionally worked in her favour.
It would be accurate to say it was her ’Get out of Jail-free card’.
’And it’ll be very handy in this event...’ Lillian looked up at Marionette, who continued to speak to Emilio.
The reason why the coin would be so important was that...
It would help prevent the kidnapping of Marionette Von Roselle.
...
While the three of them continued to walk through the garden, another group of nobles were as well with their servants.
Reph yawned as he glanced at Nolstra’s princess, Silvia Von Silversteel, having entertained her in a pleasant conversation over royal affairs, having known who they were since first sight.
If the Second Prince had to be honest, he would rather stay single and alone as long as he could lie in his bed.
This was already his second time at this particular event, having first been forced here when he was 18. And unfortunately, his father was rather upset that he didn’t get close to anyone.
He sighed and rubbed the back of his neck, depressed and tired.
’What a drag...’
His favourite show was airing today, but because it was always in the morning, he never had time for it, needing to watch it afterwards.
There was a huge difference between watching it live and watching it afterwards! Well, to him, at least.
"I’ve heard that recently your family had a little internal political conflict. How’s that going?" Silvia asked plainly, snapping Reph out of his thoughts.
He scratched the back of his head, slightly annoyed at the thought. "It’s... Still going on. But has very much died down compared to what it was at the beginning."
Siliva glanced at him and nodded, "I see. Fortunately, I don’t really have that kind of issue, but I do wonder what it is like."
Reph shivered and slowly shook his head, "It’s... not a pleasant experience..."
The Second Prince was no stranger to paparazzi, but the number of questions and camera flashes he was hit with gave him a long-lasting scar that furthered his desire to stay in his bed.
The Second Prince was a fan of Lutonese cuisine delivered straight to his door.
"’Oh, I just want to be cuddled up in my bed and not have to interact with anyone...’"
Reph, who thought he was thinking out loud, twisted his head back around and found a purple-haired woman smirking at him, having completely read out what he was thinking down to the letter accurately.
"Do you mind?"
"Heh! Ya can’t expect me not to, right? Did I get it right? Did I?" Millis leaned in curiously.
Grabbing the woman’s face and pushing her back, Reph sighed. Since meeting this woman, he had been surprised time and time again by her incredible ability to sense and predict things.
Enough to the point he thought it was an ability, unfortunately, his own prediction was wrong - Millis’s skills were just that good; good enough to where Millis had even named it.
"How did you... Even guess what I was thinking? All you could see... was the back of my head." Reph lazily asked with several pauses.
"Millis Eye, baby!" Millis smugly answered, placing her hands on her hips.
