Chapter 588: What is she up to?
Chapter 588: What is she up to?
Lillian let out a deep sigh as she walked beside Emilio, finding herself feeling down and also confused over Marionette’s decision to leave her behind.
It was one thing to interact with people like them, but it was also another thing to actually walk with them.
Scratching the side of her head, Lillian thought:
’What was Marionette thinking...?’
There was most likely a reason why her girlfriend would walk off with those nobles, other than just walking past them. Unfortunately, Lillian had yet to decipher the reason why.
"There’s no reason to be upset, Miss Lillian!" Emilio said, walking beside Lillian and finding the air around them to be awkward, "If you are worried about Miss Roselle, then I am certain she can take care of herself if needed. That way, you can’t be punished for not being able to protect her."
Lillian slowly twisted her head in Emilio’s direction, her eyebrow raised as she scrutinised his face. Was he trying to cheer her up?
With a crooked but genuine smile, Lillian nodded, "Yes... I’m sure she can take care of herself..."
However, what upset her wasn’t the idea that Marionette may get injured, but the fact that she was left behind.
DING! DING! DING!
The two of them paused as they looked to the sky, looking around as a resounding clatter of dings echoed across the garden - the striking of bells it sounded like.
Emilio tilted his head at this, perplexed by the sudden noise - was something going to happen?
He then looked to Lillian and found her walking towards another path, gesturing for him to follow her.
The noise that they had heard was actually a call back to where they all previously gathered; this call wasn’t told to anyone beforehand.
’It would also mark the end of this part of the event... I think it’s been around an hour and fifteen minutes?’
Lillian sighed again, thinking back to Marionette, ’Hopefully, she can figure her away back...’
Soon, they reached the location where everyone first gathered before exploring the wide garden.
Besides Damien and his group of nobles, not many people had arrived.
Lillian found herself unsettled by the way Damien seemed to act around the nobles who hung around him; the way the people felt inclined and comfortable to follow his words made Lillian turn away.
’Evercharm poison...’
Evercharm poison worked, not as a lethal poison, but as a substance that throttled a person’s love hormone, heightening their love to bring out the effect of them becoming easily charmed.
The moment Lillian turned away, she felt a chill crawl down her spine as she felt Damien give her a curious glance.
Lillian glanced back at him reflexively, locking eyes with the Darkhound and sensing a hint of desire deep within his pupils.
Damien soon turned away to entertain his guests.
’Nasty...’ Lillian thought, her muscles spasming despite not being cold. Did he already set his sights on her?
She hadn’t even interacted with him once! And she was intending to keep it that way, if possible.
’But I doubt I’m gonna get away without talking to him once...’
If it wasn’t for the fact that Damien was a predator to women, Lillian would’ve been fine talking to him - if he had any flaws besides lustfulness.
A person who kills for a living? Lillian was fine with that; she’s dating Marionette.
An arrogant person who flaunts his wealth? Sure, they might be annoying to deal with, but not enough for Lillian not interact with them as long as she could get what she wanted.
While Lillian continued to be in thought, spacing out, a group of familiar individuals came up to her from behind.
Millis walked over and wrapped an arm around the Rabbit’s neck, shaking the girl out of her daze.
"Yo! Wassup, chum? Whatcha doing here already, aye?"
"Huh? Oh. Heya, Millis." Lillian looked up at the Heroine, "Did you have fun exploring the garden?" She asked with a plain face and smile.
"Ehh... Besides a few flowers, not much is around here, ya know? I’m not much of a scenery type of person." Millis answered, rambling on.
After she finished rambling, she gave Lillian a narrow look before asking, "Ya eyes look a bit down, ya upset about anything?"
Lillian widened her eyes a bit before smiling wryly, "How could you tell? I didn’t look sad, did I?"
"Heh. I’m a master~ at noticing things, my dear bestie." Millis puffed her chest out with a silly smile on her face, causing Lillian to give her an odd look.
Lillian then sighed. There was no point in asking about anything regarding Millis’s uncanny ability for detection.
"So! What got ya so down?"
"Ehm..." Lillian scratched the side of her cheek, "Marionette kind of... Left me behind for some reason... That’s it really..."
Millis tilted her head, but then said, "Oh? She left ya behind without telling you why? I guess that kind of explains why ya and Red Eyes were alone."
"Eh? Are you saying that you saw Marionette on your way here?"
"Mhm. Walking onto some isolated path with some dudes." Millis answered, her eyes squinting as she rubbed her chin, "Ya ain’t being cucked, are ya, Lillian?"
"W-wha!? No, of course not! Well, I highly doubt I am, at least!" Lillian exclaimed, finding herself rather agitated by the idea, "But anyway, did you see what she was up to?"
Millis looked at Lillian silently for a brief moment before shrugging, "Nah, no idea. I did grab a look, but then got bored when nothing happened."
"I see..." Lillian sighed again.
What was Marionette really up to? She didn’t remember Marionette being this social enough to form connections or talk with people at this event; in fact, she remembered Marionette doing the complete opposite!
Seeing Lillian in thought, Millis hummed before shaking the girl awake, pointing towards a random direction, "Hey, look, pal! Ain’t that ya girl over there?"
Lillian immediately jolted awake and looked towards the pointed direction, finding Marionette walking into the square they were all in - she was alone.
Millis then watched as Lillian bolted out of her presence and rushed over to Red Eyes.
Marionette calmly made her way into the square, looking around as she found a multitude of people here. It seemed she had managed to find her way back.
’I wonder if Lillian is here...’
On her way to this location, she had failed to find a trace of Lillian’s tracks.
Upon looking around, she was met with the sight of a pouting Rabbit quickly approaching her.
Marionette tilted her head at this, confused by the expression she was receiving.
Millis watched as Lillian reached the Assassin, managing to overhear the girl speak in a pouty tone. The Heroine laughed internally as she heard this.
Soon, she shifted her gaze to Marionette, who found herself perplexed as to why Lillian was so upset with her actions. She had yet to tell Lillian what she had done.
The Assassin caught a glance of Millis in the corner of her eyes and locked gazes with the Heroine, her eyes narrowing.
Millis narrowed back for a split second before cracking a mischievous grin as she waved back slowly.
When Lillian had asked her if she knew what Marionette was up to, she had actually lied when she said she didn’t know. Millis, in fact, knew what the Assassin was up to and was even there when it happened.
She started to think back.
...
"Ya guys, I think we should down this path!" Millis called out.
