Journey of the Fate Destroying Emperor

Chapter 1899: The Final Battle VI: Death Knight

Chapter 1899: The Final Battle VI: Death Knight

Death Reverence's body exuded a terrifying aura, and it did not help that his red eyes sparkled from behind his helmet, along with a visible breath of decay emitting from his mouth. A small vortex appeared right in front of Death Reverence, from which he slowly retrieved a black sword more than two meters long.

"Before, I wanted to be perfect and capture you alive and intact," Death Reverence said, his voice echoing as if thousands of souls were speaking simultaneously. "But, there is no need. It's fine if you're missing a limb or two; no, it's better this way. I can repair you using my Lord's Death Power, turning you into the perfect vessel in the process."

Death Reverence took one step and immediately reached Wang Wei; he slashed the sword before the latter could react. The attack slashed through Wang Wei like a weapon passing through a bubble, an illusion. However, when Wang Wei's true body appeared in the distance, he had a sword slash wound that started from his shoulder and ended at his waist.

Black chains flew from the Death Knight's armor, attempting to injure and capture Wang Wei; he retaliated by evading or punching them. His current priority was healing the wound on his chest, or his strength would diminish. "Hmm?" Wang Wei muttered as he sensed something: the speed of his healing was rapidly decreasing.

A swift check made his complexion ugly. His True Saint Artifact had gained sentience — it was even in the process of condensing a spirit. But that was not even the most anomalous part of this sudden change. The new soul about to be born was not under Wang Wei's control; it had a master named [Death].

Without hesitation, Wang Wei crushed this new consciousness, but this brief distraction was all Death Reverence needed. With one fierce motion, he stabbed his sword, targeting one of the vital parts of the body: the heart. At the last minute, Wang Wei activated his fleshly body's characteristic and entered the [Emptiness State], but a portion of his aorta was still destroyed; and that's not mentioning the wound to his soul.

"I need to weaken him," Wang Wei thought while putting distance between himself and his opponent. It would be a waste to use the ring's energy reserves to boost his stats, since they would never get him to the same level as Death Reverence; more importantly, they were the key to his healing. Wang Wei's other strength-enhancing techniques or transformations were also subpar compared to the current Death Knight Transformation, leaving him with one choice: weakening.

An energy armor condensed around Wang Wei's body, but this wasn't just any ordinary armor — it was the embodiment of his ultimate defense. Whether it was the power of Yin-Yang to converge damage into something else, the power of Luck to ensure the attack didn't work, the power of Time and Space to prevent anything from touching it, the freedom to not be attacked, or the power of fate to wield a survival destiny — they were contained in that armor.

Despite these protections, Wang Wei did not stop moving around. Death Reverence caught up, and with one blade strike, he cut off a chunk of meat from Wang Wei's right arm. Ignoring his injury, the Lord of Fate summoned its string; with a flick of his wrist, countless strings began to fuse with the space of this world.

"He's weaving a new destiny? But what?" Death Reverence analyzed. His offense never stopped. He was faster and stronger than Wang Wei, leaving the latter injured with each attack. However, Wang Wei's reflexes were a bit abnormal. He wasn't fast enough to evade, but at the very last minute, his body could adjust enough to avoid a fatal injury; it's almost as if another person was secretly controlling his body.

"The destiny he's weaving seemed to be to amplify the power of words, but what's the point of that?" Death Reverence knew Wang Wei had a technique called [Emperor's Word Is Law], but such a technique could not make a difference in this level of battle — even if it were elevated to a Saint technique.

"It doesn't matter. Since he wants to do it, I'll stop him." Just as Death Reverence was about to execute this thought, he sensed something that made him hesitate. What was the source of Wang Wei's current Saint Power? Heavenly Dao. What was his greatest weakness? Heavenly Dao. Ever since this battle began, Death Reverence has been searching for traces of Heavenly Dao without success.

"Its sudden appearance is obviously a distraction," Death Reverence sneered. Despite his words, he couldn't help wonder whether it was true — whether all his efforts had succeeded and he had finally found the key to ending this fight and accomplishing his Lord's task.

"What's the point of hesitating when I can do both?" Although this brief hesitation was enough for Wang Wei to get a lot done, it was still not too late — or so the Death Knight thought. Once he started targeting these Fate Strings, he destroyed much of Wang Wei's progress, but multitasking was a distraction, which also meant his rate of destruction was not as fast as Wang Wei's rate of progress.

Gritting his teeth, the messenger of death controlled his indecision and focused on destroying the strings. In response, Wang Wei gave him a mocking smile as traces of Heavenly Dao manifested again, but this time, it was to help Wang Wei finish his work.

"I can't believe you're the Beyonder's best ambassador. No wonder he hasn't made any progress after so many years."

"Damn you, Fate Dominator," Death Reverence yelled. He stabbed his sword into the ground before uttering: "River of Styx, origin of death, please bless this world with your presence."

The sky cracked, revealing a black river filled with illuminating particles that shone brighter than the stars in the night sky. A sense of doom spread to every corner of this battlefield, which would have created mass-scale panic if this world still had any mortals left. Even Wang Wei felt a chill down his spine; he could not escape this eerie feeling that death was so close to him, almost breathing down his neck.

"Is this a projection of the Beyonder's Dao Quintessence?" Wang Wei thought. If that were true, he couldn't let this thing settle on this battlefield, or he'd be screwed. With a thought, six artificial Grand Constructs manifested between Heaven and Earth, but surprisingly, none of them was the Six Paths Samsara. Instead, the source of death was replaced by the [River of Karma].

Without wasting a single moment, Wang Wei laid out one of his greatest seals: his wife's Universal Seal. Ai and the Duchess had optimized the technique, and with its already perfect foundation, the power was out of this world. The constructs formed a hexagon to surround the [Styx River], ensuring this foreign abomination cannot descend into the world.

"You cannot stop it," Death Reverence stated.

"I don't need to," Wang Wei replied. He only needed to buy himself enough time to finish his previous plan. Death Reverence instantly realized that the fate weaving was almost complete, so he switched gears, trying a well-known tactic that anyone calling themselves a strategist should know: targeting the king. As long as he can get to Wang Wei before he finishes, he'll have the advantage. The issue now was how to do so, given that all previous efforts had failed.

The air around Death Reverence exploded, followed by another increase in his aura. However, this time around, it was highly unstable, which Wang Wei recognized as a sign of a secret technique being used. His eyes couldn't see what happened next because all he saw was a path of destruction left by Death Reverence, annihilating the spatial structure due to the sheer speed of his travel.

A terrifying sword slash, intended to cleave Wang Wei in two, flew toward him. And while he couldn't see or react, the same could not be said for the Quantum Spirit — Ai. Wang Wei's body successfully moved to the sides, resulting in his left arm and a bit of his upper torso being hacked away. However, a smile crept on Wang Wei's face. If he had had enough time, Wang Wei would have told him he should have gone for his head.

For in that brief moment, the fate-weaving was completed, empowering the [Power of Words]. With a hidden smirk, Wang Wei uttered: "Retounen sou la tè."

As soon as he uttered these words from a strange language, an immense power descended into the world. Death Reverence was familiar with this power since it was also the power of death. However, for some reason, it gave him the feeling that it was the source of death itself — the very origin. The worst part is that this new source of death seemed even purer than his Lord; its essence was even higher.

"What did you do?" Death Reverence asked coldly.
