Chapter 1910: Hope or Despair?
Chapter 1910: Hope or Despair?
A vision of a white and gold library suddenly spread between Heaven and Earth from the depths of the River of Time. It was beautiful, grand, and filled with the purest Dao Rhymes. Anyone who laid eyes on it would be filled with the intense desire to seek knowledge, to unravel the mystery of history, to refine all truths between Heaven and Earth.
Future Reverence looked at the prototype of a Dao Quintessence, and his face turned bright red; anyone who saw would have thought he was a volcano about to erupt. He finally understood how wrong he was. The duchess wasn't in the Primordial Sword Dao Array, preparing to fix the [Saber-Sword Dao Source] to deal with him. No, she was cultivating in the River of Time, ascending to a higher level of cultivation.
"Good, good, good," he muttered to himself. "But all of you are dreaming if you think she will be my opponent." While creating that array, he had returned to 95% of his peak strength, which was more than enough for someone who had just ascended to the same state as him. Future Reverence exhaled deeply, entering the best state for the upcoming battle.
"Let her in," Wang Wei said, and the Sword Saint grunted slightly before opening a small part of the array, allowing the duchess to send a projection.
"I'm glad you succeeded. For a moment there, I was worried," Wang Wei smiled.
The Erudite Duchess sighed deeply, "I underestimate how difficult it would be. Honestly, I owe you more than I originally thought." The duchess knew she would have 100% failed if not for the Quantum Yin-Yang Array. But that's not even the full extent of Wang Wei's help. If he didn't send all that World Source into the River of Time, she would also have failed, and at the last minute, too.
"We can talk about all that later," Wang Wei said. "Now, be honest, how confident are you in dealing with him?"
"About 60%."
"That low?"
"I just achieved this realm and my powers are highly unstable," the duchess explained.
"What if I let you use more [Authority]?"
"You have more?"
Wang Wei nodded before ordering Ai to transfer 20% of his authority to the duchess.
"Thanks," she nodded. This level of authority should help. Then, the duchess turned her gaze to the Sword Saint. "But, our greatest reliance will be the fact I won't be fighting alone."
"You're dreaming if you think I'm going to help you," he sneered.
"You don't have a choice."
"What do you mean by that? Do you think your new strength means you can do as you please?" The [Saber-Sword Dao Source] — was being used as the array core — suddenly vibrated, showing its sharp edge. This was his array, his home turf, which made the Primordial Heaven Lord quite confident in dealing with any threats.
"Don't forget we are still bound by a contract," the duchess reminded. "And now that I'm in danger, you're obligated to help. And don't try to use any excuses. I know you're lying, so if you do, I'll immediately activate the backlash."
"You!"
Wang Wei gave the duchess a secret thumbs up. What goes around comes around; that damn contract was finally put to good use. However, his expression remained neutral, as if he were pretending not to interfere in the affairs of these big shots.
"There is no time to waste," the duchess said as her projection began to fade. "Don't make me wait for you."
The Primordial Heaven Sword Saint snorted coldly, and with a flick of his wrist, a light shot into the distance and lodged on his forehead, turning into a cracked crystal. He glanced at Wang Wei and Maitreya and snorted for a second time.
"Wait," Wang Wei suddenly yelled just as he was about to teleport.
"What is it now?"
"Can you give me partial control of your array? I want to assist you two to the best of my ability."
The Sword Saint grunted, then condensed a rune and handed it to him. "How cheap," Wang Wei complained after refining it. The bastard gave him less than 20% of control, which means he can easily override most of his actions. More importantly, without the [Saber-Sword Dao Source], the array is not even as good as the Lesser Heaven and Earth Origin Cycle Array — not to mention it was already on the verge of collapse.
The transmission array activated, showing the battle outside. Wang Wei watched for a few minutes before immediately frowning. The battle had only just started, but Future Reverence was holding on two against one.
"No need to worry. The duchess still needs to get acquainted with her new power," Maitreya reassured.
"Let's hope."
Maitreya was right. As the battle continued, the Erudite Duchess's aura became steadier and more potent. As she becomes more comfortable with her newfound strength, the pressure she exerts on the Future Reverence intensifies. Meanwhile, the Primordial Heaven Sword Saint was doing his best to assist her. Wang Wei was worried he would slack off in this fight, but that wasn't the case. Besides not using the Dao Source — which was understandable since it was a trump card — he did his best to create an opportunity for the duchess to attack and injure Future Reverence. However, it still wasn't enough.
"He's slowly building momentum," Wang Wei analyzed. "Once he's figured out the limits of the duchess' strength, the battle will reverse." There is no way the duchess could have updated and elevated all her Saint Techniques and Saint Arts in such a short period, even with her own Quantum Yin-Yang Array as an assistant.
Future Reverence should know this. And once he has figured out the limits of the duchess' Saint Techniques, he'll change tactics, and the entire battle will begin to tilt in his favor. And if he could find a way to eliminate the weakest link (Sword Saint), then victory would be his.
"Do you want to interfere?"
"Yes, but we need some preparation," Wang Wei nodded. "Ai, let's get our hands on a few more layers of the Highest Firmament."
"As you wish, sir."
"There won't be any problems, right?"
"No, he's lost most of his [Authority], and he's too distracted to help us."
"Good. Give me a secret link to those two so we can plan something together."
Wang Wei thought the conversation would have been short and easy, but the Primordial Heaven Sword Saint had to complicate things. The bastard fought tooth and nail to stop from using the last attack of the [Saber-Sword Dao Source]. Unfortunately, due to the contract's binding effect, pressure from the duchess, and her promise to help, he finally relented.
As Wang Wei predicted, the tide of the battle soon shifted. The duchess did her best to improve during the fight, and to her credit, she indeed made rapid improvement; however, it was not enough. Future Reverence was stronger, faster, and, more importantly, he was more experienced. Plus, at some point during the fight, the Primordial Heaven Sword Saint became a hindrance rather than an aid; the duchess had to save him from a few attacks that would have caused severe injuries.
Wang Wei and Ai waited for the right moment. Future Reverence's momentum kept increasing, and when he reached the point where he had the overwhelming advantage, Wang Wei did something to distract him slightly. Maitreya teleported to the True Death Array and, using the flaws Ai had discovered, she destroyed it.
The array contributed to a small percentage of Future Reverence's strength, and the destruction completely derailed his momentum. Of course, as an experienced fighter, he needed only a moment to make up for it, but that brief pause was what the group was after.
With the energy of 12 Heavens, the Primordial Sword Dao Array condensed an enormous sealing chain. The duchess immediately followed that by engraving more sealing runes to it, boosted by her Dao Quintessence. The chain wrapped itself around Future Reverence, temporarily immobilizing him.
Swish!
A white light spread to every corner of this dying timeline, followed by the remaining Grand Constructs suddenly resonating as if they were bowing to a higher power. The light receded, and there was not a single sign of Future Reverence, not even a single particle or piece of his [Existence] remained.
"He's gone, right?" the Sword Saint asked, and the duchess did not immediately answer. Instead, she used her best detection technique to ensure it was true, then smiled and nodded. Everybody sighed in relief.
"Unfortunately, I have to disappoint you."
Everyone's expression changed. They turned around to the source and saw a coffin floating in the air, and as soon as it appeared, it was the center of Heaven and Earth. The coffin opened, and Future Reverence slowly walked out, looking perfectly intact.
"That was closed," he said with a grin at the corner of his mouth. He cracked his neck for a moment before his gaze turned to the sword in the Primordial Heaven Lord's hand. His smile widened after seeing how dim the luster was.
"Alright, the childplay is over."
