Chapter 1898: She is really a studious one... right?
Chapter 1898: She is really a studious one… right?
Genome Beta stepped inside the dark room. As soon as she entered, the world around her flickered for a brief moment.
[Welcome, Genome Beta]
A robotic voice echoed through the darkness as the visuals stabilised.
The room slowly illuminated with a gentle, cold glow, revealing a massive black desk at its centre and six figures already seated around it.
Genome Beta walked closer towards the empty position without acknowledging the others.
“Someone is running late.”
Genome Beta glanced towards the sneering voice and saw a red-striped black mech-suit with a huge ‘1’ itched across his chest. He sat with his arms folded, his glowing visors fixed upon her with open irritation.
Genome Beta barely gave him a glance before looking towards the person seated at the centre, who was completely covered in a thick, deep-black mech-suit that reflected almost no light.
Even the contours of his armor seemed difficult to distinguish beneath the darkness.
“Forgive me, President. I had been a little busy with the slaves I brought today.”
The President barely gave her a glance. Genome Beta said nothing further and simply walked towards her seat.
After a moment, the President finally spoke in a cold, controlled voice.
“Gamma, begin the meeting.”
“Understood, President.”
A spherical-shaped white robot with several articulated robotic tentacles moved into position beside the desk. One of its tentacles touched the surface, and the room immediately filled with a projected image of the unknown chained world.
The enormous world rotated silently above the table.
“It’s a bit distant. Could you provide closer footage?” a golden mech-suit asked.
Gamma turned towards the golden mech-suit before responding in its precise, mechanical voice.
“Unfortunately, we are unable to capture closer footage, Epsilon. As soon as we attempted to approach the object, our reconnaissance drones encountered an unstable fluctuation of dense energies, which resulted in their immediate destruction.”
The projection continued rotating as several figures around the table became noticeably more attentive.
“Dense energies? You mean… Arcane and Clarion? If that is so, why would our technology be destroyed? We developed our devices according to their energy frequencies, did we not? Our systems should be capable of handling them under almost any circumstances,” Beta asked with a frown.
Gamma answered without hesitation.
“It is true that our technology has improved considerably, and our systems can withstand extremely high concentrations of both Arcane and Clarion energy. However, the latest readings indicate that the destruction was caused by an abnormal fluctuation within the energy itself. We do not currently possess sufficient data to determine why the frequency behaved differently, so I cannot provide you with a 100% accurate answer, unfortunately.”
Beta remained silent for a moment before slowly nodding.
Gamma continued, “So far, we have discovered that this unknown world has not influenced our world in any measurable way. The animals and other species remain the same as before, and the energy density within our world has also remained unchanged. Nothing has altered so far except for the fact that this world appeared without warning.”
The projection shifted, displaying several layers of incomplete data surrounding the strange world.
“We were unable to predict how it appeared, nor have we discovered any previous trails, spatial disturbances, or residual signatures that could explain where it came from.”
“You mean it appeared out of nowhere?” Epsilon asked, his voice losing some of its earlier casualness.
Gamma remained motionless.
“Based on the evidence currently available, that is the most accurate conclusion.”
A heavy silence settled over the room again.
“Then we should just blast it with our Energy Reactor.”
Beta slowly turned her head towards the red-striped mech-suit marked with the number ‘1’, Delta.
Delta continued, “I believe this is the best outcome for this matter. We are already at war with other Empires, we are dealing with Hell’s Gate, and now this appears in our territory without warning. We do not have the time or resources to waste investigating some new shit that appeared out of nowhere.”
He turned towards the President, his posture becoming noticeably more rigid as he sought confirmation.
“Am I correct, President?”
His words carried the eager certainty of someone who had already decided the answer and was merely waiting for someone more powerful to validate it.
The President remained silent.
For several seconds, his dark visor stayed fixed upon the projection of the unknown world. He did not look at Delta, nor did he acknowledge anyone else at the table.
Then, in a voice devoid of anger, he finally said, “If incompetence had a face…”
He deliberately left the sentence unfinished and slowly turned his head towards Delta.
The silence that followed was far more humiliating than an insult.
Delta visibly flinched before clenching his fist beneath the table.
“B-But I am not wrong…”
“Yes, you are,” Gamma said, interrupting Delta. “Using the Energy Reactor against the dense energy fluctuation… was a dumb move. It could literally destroy our world as well.”
Delta flinched and immediately fell silent as he clenched his fist again. He clearly wanted to argue, but the warning in Gamma’s words was difficult to dismiss.
“Then what should we do?” Epsilon asked curiously.
Every head slowly turned towards the President.
The President leaned forward against the table before saying coldly,
“It is time the Governors showed us what they are truly capable of.”
Everyone raised their eyebrows. After all, their President had never dispatched the Governors directly on missions so far.
Even against other Empires, they relied on old technology and expendable personnel.
Never the newer technology.
Never the powerful ones.
The President calmly added,
“Don’t forget, our mission is never about the other Empires. Remember what the Goddess said to us… Capture the…”
“Worlds.”
Everyone said it at the same time, as though they had suddenly remembered the trial that had been given to them by their Goddess.
The President calmly continued,
“The other Empires are nothing more than specks upon the surface of a far greater sea.”
He leaned further across the table, his voice remaining calm, yet carrying an unmistakable weight.
“And now, we have seen that sea for the first time. It is time we showed our Goddess what she saved us for, and proved that she did not choose the wrong ones to survive.”
Everyone’s face became tense.
Especially Beta, who grew slightly uneasy as she remembered Lackey’s words, but she did not voice a single thought about it.

Meanwhile…
Back in Beta Tower, after taking Lackey’s hand, Genome Beta had left him inside her room before departing for the urgent meeting.
Lackey lay on the comfortable bed as he stared at the skill details floating before his eyes.
[Skill: Perfected Genome]
[Effect: This skill grants the user extensive control over their own blood essence and biological structure, allowing them to modify, adapt, and optimise their composition according to their needs and biological understanding.]
[Additional Benefits: The user can adapt their body to different environments, enhance biological functions, and develop compatibility with various bloodlines. Rather than devouring and destroying the core genetic functions of another bloodline, the user can assimilate its compatible traits and integrate them into their Original Blood. Once successfully assimilated, the new bloodline becomes a permanent part of the user’s biological composition. The skill also provides continuous biological optimisation and supports the user’s evolutionary growth.]
[Limitation: When assimilating powerful, unique, or Primordial bloodlines, residual memories, instincts, emotions, or other information contained within those bloodlines may also be assimilated. These influences may temporarily affect the user’s thoughts, emotions, instincts, or perception.]
[Cooldown Time: None]
Lackey hummed thoughtfully as he read the description again.
“Hmm… so instead of shamelessly devouring the blood of others, it helps to assimilate them without erasing their core traits and… become part of mine. Interesting… Oh, it was freaking good. That’s why I haven’t felt deep hunger ah… but…”
He frowned at the one thing that continued to bother him.
The Limitation…
“Affect my mind… does it mean the memories would become part of mine or something else?” He was curious about that part.
He hummed thoughtfully. It was not like it was necessarily bad…
“Also… what do you mean by changing biological structure? Does it mean… I could turn into a girl?”
Even the simple thought sent a shiver down his spine, and he immediately shook his head.
“Well, nothing comes free, I guess… I will test it later more… Hmm…”
He muttered to himself, still thinking about the skill that had been given to him by Nova.
His expression turned slightly solemn as he glanced around the room, which was filled with books. Her room carried the aroma of old books, a faint and comforting scent that lingered in the air, strangely familiar despite how long it had been since he had experienced something like this.
Damn, just like old times…
“She is really a studious one,” Lackey mumbled as he looked at the books about genetics, cosmetics, and other stuff. Some of them were arranged neatly on the shelves, while others had clearly been read so many times that their pages had begun to curl at the edges.
Then, glancing towards the outside window, he saw the Eternal Prison hanging silently in the sky.
His expression turned serious.
It was not like the Eternal Prison had appeared out of nowhere… It had appeared because of him.
If one remembered correctly, his soul had been stretched due to the distance between him and his left hand, right? Because of that, when his soul became strained, it entered into the Null Vessel state, where it needed time to cool down from the strain.
However, when he entered the Null Vessel state last time… he did not know exactly what had happened, but somehow, his blood had caused it.
Something had been cut off…
He did not know how to describe it properly. It was like… he knew he was breathing, but how? How was he aware of his breathing all the time without consciously thinking about it?
Yet, somehow, that awareness had become the key.
Yes, his blood had reacted to his consciousness again… and somehow, it had happened.
Even though it did not bring his hand back, it brought what his hand had been holding.
The Eternal Prison.
Lackey stared at the distant structure through the window, his eyes narrowing slightly.
Somewhere deep within him, he could feel something had changed.
He could feel the connection between himself and his blood had increased drastically.
He could feel the flow of time.
He could feel as though he could control something, but he still could not understand it clearly enough.
It was not control in the ordinary sense. It felt more like touching something enormous in the darkness and knowing that it belonged to him, even though he could not yet see its entire shape.
It was like how he controlled his Null-Return.
Before, he had to die to activate the skill, but now he could simply wish for it, and it would happen.
He stared at his hand for several seconds.
But he was still far from taking complete control over his blood.
Still…
It was becoming one with him.
He glanced at his hand and clenched it slowly, feeling the blood flowing inside him.
Ether Blood…
Ssh…
Just then, he felt something against his leg. He looked down and saw… the third Eternal Chain on his ankle was slowly turning to dust.
“Oh? It was destroyed as well? When did that happen?” he muttered in quiet surprise, as though he had not expected it.
Actually, it had happened during the moment when he accepted both sides of himself. When he held the spear, the silver chain had already cracked beyond anything it had endured before.
He reached down to touch his Eternal Chain bracelet, but it immediately turned into silver mist before disappearing as though it had never existed in the first place.
Lackey watched the final traces of silver vanish from his fingers.
“So even you couldn’t hold me anymore…” he murmured.
Lackey hummed softly… then only his left hand remained.
Once he found it… he would become whole again.
His eyes slowly returned to the Eternal Prison in the distance.
He turned silent for a moment as his thoughts returned to Arcane and Clara inside the Eternal Prison.
He was going to meet them.
He was no longer sure what he wanted to say… Was he angry?
Yes, of course… he was angry at them,
After everything that had happened, how could he not be?
But anger was no longer enough to explain what he felt.
He wanted answers.
More than anything…
He wanted to hear their stories.
A gentle smile appeared when he remembered Arcane calling herself his… first wife.
“Haha… Selene would be so pissed if she heard that,” he mumbled as he stretched his body across the bed.
His hand slipped beneath the pillow, and something suddenly bumped against his fingers.
He frowned and reached underneath it before pulling the object out.
“A book? Damn woman… Just how many do you have?” He was surprised to find a book beneath the pillow as he pulled it out and looked at the title with a curious expression.
“In-Law Affairs: Riding My Daughter’s Husband”
“…”
A dead-quiet silence followed.
Lackey stared at the title.
He blinked once.
Then twice.
He stared at it for a few more seconds as though his brain was desperately trying to convince him that he had somehow read the title incorrectly.
Finally, with an expression that had become completely blank, he carefully placed the book back underneath the pillow.
He stayed quiet… as if he had not touched anything.
He had not seen anything…
And he definitely had not read anything!!
Anything weird at all!!
[Hmph! Fucking Bastard! Another MILF?]
His log let out an annoyed tone.
“Oi, what did I do?” Lackey felt completely offended before narrowing his eyes slightly.
“And you can talk now, bitch?”
[Don’t call me bitch, you fucking bitch! You are the one who left me! You! FUCK!! 🤬🤬 Don’t make me remember what you did!]
She shouted furiously, her voice carrying so much irritation that Lackey could almost imagine her pointing a finger directly at his face.
Lackey turned silent before smiling weakly.
“Well… I am sorry?”
There was a brief silence.
[Hmph! 😤]
Lackey scratched his cheek.
“That was surprisingly easy.”
[Don’t push your luck.]
Just then, purple particles fluttered through the air as a faint magical glow gathered in front of him.
“Grace?” Lackey blinked when he saw Grace appear before him, her tiny wings fluttering gently as she hovered in the air.
She looked at him with a deeply judgmental expression.
“Who are you?”
“…Pardon?”
For several minutes, Lackey genuinely had no idea what to say.
