Chapter 400 – Cassius Motherfucker Desdemona!

Isolde Amaris had just killed a Fourth Rank being, Eyeless of Crimson Daggers, as nothing more than a Second Rank herself.

The world around her shuddered, her existence sharpening into something far more defined.

[The Will of the Underworld shakes with delight.]

[The Mother of Assassins looks upon her daughter with hope.]

[The Reader smiles mysteriously.]

And it wasn’t over yet.

DING!

Mother System chimed loudly inside Isolde’s head, her mind spinning in a dozen directions.

[A Wonderful Feat!]

[You have killed a Fourth Rank being as a Second Rank. Not the first time in history, certainly not the last, but only 1% of the world’s population could ever pull off what you just achieved, Isolde Amaris.]

[You are fabulous.]

[Your existence is stabilizing.]

[Congratulations, Isolde Amaris. You have earned a title.]

[Title: Reaper of Hearts.]

A warm feeling spread through Isolde. Not nearly enough to heal her current state, but enough, maybe, to give her the strength to move.

Just maybe.

She hung her head low, breathing hard, her body still trembling. She blinked repeatedly, clearing blood and blurred vision away until she could see a little better.

She stared at the heavy heart still clutched in her hand. It was red and black, dense essence churning around it.

She stored it inside her space ring, sensing it might prove useful. Then she turned her attention to Eyeless’s severed head.

Without much emotion, she rose from the headless corpse, picked up the head, and stored it away too.

Isolde took a deep breath. Checking her own condition told her she didn’t have much time left before her body simply gave out.

With no healing options remaining, she needed to move fast. But first, she searched Eyeless’s corpse.

She checked for a space ring, kept searching, even stripping the body bare — Isolde felt no hesitation about it — until she found a necklace shaped like a red moon, hidden between her breasts.

Isolde took it without a second thought.

Nothing else worth taking on Eyeless. She moved to Hound next, doing the same. She stripped him too, and with a spiteful cruelty, cut his dick into pieces, in return for everything the beast had put her through.

Searching him, she found something far more interesting: a golden pouch. Inside — a it was space artifact — sat a massive white egg.

A beast’s egg, Isolde assumed.

"Heh," she made a low, throaty sound, smiling with something close to demonic satisfaction.

She took the golden pouch too.

There was nothing else worth doing here. Even if there had been, she had no time left to spare on it.

So Isolde looked around, weighing which direction to take. Only then did she notice the barrier still enclosing the area, keeping her from leaving.

But this was Isolde Amaris.

She was the Traveler. No barrier could hold her anymore. She didn’t even need to consciously call on her Blessing for something this weak.

She simply walked through it, phasing out with ease. But once outside, she stopped short, finding a man seated atop a pile of corpses, sipping juice.

The bodies wore uniforms Isolde recognized instantly. Wealth family subordinates.

’...Meadow?’ she thought, exhaustion dragging her mind down further.

The man lifted his head at her arrival, his green eyes deceptively gentle...until shock replaced that gentleness, realizing what Isolde walking out alive, alone, might actually mean.

"Wait," the man exclaimed, tensing instantly. "Where are Eyeless and Hound?"

Isolde didn’t answer. She couldn’t. One thing was sure though... if another fight broke out now, she’d certainly die.

She was barely holding herself together as it was.

"I asked you—!"

"How Soooo Cool!"

The man fell into sudden silence, a voice speaking right behind him. He froze completely as its owner grabbed him by the head.

Isolde turned to face the newcomer.

The body was shaped like a woman, though her face was hidden beneath a hood, features impossible to make out.

Still, Isolde could clearly see the woman’s nails, dyed a deep black, and a bangle circling her wrist, black with red inscriptions.

"I was just wandering around, waiting for my master to arrive. Who’d have thought I’d stumble across a scene this interesting?" the woman said, her tone warm, almost welcoming. "Hey, beautiful lady," she said to Isolde. "I don’t have a name, but my master calls me Joykiller. I find you fascinating, and my master told me to make friends where I could. Want me to save you from the big guy here?"

Isolde glanced at her, then at the Crimson Daggers man, still unable to move a muscle, and smiled thinly, blood dripping down.

"Why not, Joykiller?"

...

Meanwhile, the kingdom had erupted into chaos. A Call of Justice had been made by Cassius Desdemona himself, and across every corner of the Net, that was all anyone was talking about.

It was deeply fascinating news, all around.

Some people hadn’t even known what a Call of Justice was, until today.

But what shocked everyone most was who the Call had been made against. The Museum of Legends itself.

The news thrilled every gossip circle. Everyone wanted to know what the Museum had possibly done to push Cassius this far, curiosity dragging anyone with free time straight towards the Deathless Prison, hoping to witness it firsthand.

Making the Call public meant plenty of high-ranking figures caught wind of it fast.

Like Mallory Octavia Claweye, who developed an instant headache the moment she saw the news. She’d already been feeling sensations suggesting her disciple was fighting for his life, and now this too?

She genuinely couldn’t remember the last time she’d slept well, since Cassius became her disciple.

"This bloody disciple. What has he done this time?"

But if Mallory knew, that also meant the Dragon Hunters, the ones who’d fled on their own earlier, now realized even their silent member had failed.

They were completely stunned, unable to fathom how, and wondering where exactly that woman had disappeared to.

Beyond those two groups, Cassius’s own family had caught wind too.

The twins, in Storm City on private business, spotted the news on a Runic TV screen while walking down the street, hoods pulled up to hide their faces.

They stopped, tilting their heads up, looking at their brother’s handsome face displayed beside a giant "CALL OF JUSTICE."

Lucian chuckled immediately. "The youngest is causing chaos again, Lilien. Want to go see?"

"We’re busy," Lilien shook her head, checking the time. "We need to find that man today. We’ll call our brother later."

"Argh. Not fun. Not fun at all!" Lucian complained, though he complied anyway. "We can at least send a message, right?"

"Yeah. Do it," Lilien murmured, eyes still fixed on Cassius’s picture. She smiled faintly, licking her lips, her black eyes glinting.

Lucian glanced at her and chose silence, shaking his head. Lilien was strange, even to him.

They looked at the screen one last time, smiling, wondering what kind of drama Cassius had gotten himself tangled in now.

"I just hope he’s safe," Lilien murmured, resuming her walk.

"Dorian and Morgan will handle that. Speaking of which, been a while since I’ve heard from either of them," Lucian replied, following alongside her, hands in his pockets.

"What about Father and Mother?" Lilien asked.

"Same. You?"

"Same."

"Something going on?"

"Probably."

The twins said nothing further, continuing their conversation as they walked on.

While they’d decided to leave Cassius to handle things himself, Morgan was already scrambling to reach the Deathless Prison.

"What did Cass do this time!!!" she shouted, hurrying into her clothes. Inside her shadow, Mort trembled with eager curiosity, finally getting to meet the famed Cassius. "And why am I only hearing about this at the same time as everyone else?" Morgan kept complaining. "That damn brother!"

Dorian, meanwhile, was in a hotel room with Esmeray beside him. Both of them naked.

"Fuck," Dorian cursed at the news, springing up, grabbing his clothes, careful to avoid the cosplay set. "I need to get to the Deathless Prison, right now."

"Cass, that motherfucker, again," Esmeray cursed at him for ruining her afternoon of sex. She grumbled, standing, hurrying into her slip and clothes. "Wait for me, Dorian! I’m coming!"

Dorian was already out the door.

"Damn it!"

Even Klaus and Love, Anesthesia and Raven, still lingering inside the brothel in the Black Market, all caught the news too, wondering exactly what Cassius was scheming this time.

They knew the bastard well enough to guess something sly was in motion.

And while all of this unfolded, Cassius stood facing the Deathless Prison itself, the Queen of the Kingdom at his side, staring at his phone, flooded with messages and calls, utterly bewildered.

"Why’s everyone freaking out?" he tilted his head. "This is just a Call of Justice, Queen’s breath."

Morenna’s lips twitched.

"Yeah," she said, watching the doors of the Deathless Prison swing open. "Just a Call of Justice."

And so it began.
