Chapter 313 : Tempris Powers

Chapter 313: Chapter 313 : Tempris Powers

With Jax’s approval, Tempris was fine with it too. Athanasia pressed her forehead against the tiny dragon’s and closed her eyes. Some kind of telepathy at work.

Minutes passed after minutes. The others just stood there watching the clueless child and the cold prodigy known for her achievements doing something they can’t name yet.

Delphine was fuming quietly. Being humiliated by a child half her height was not something her pride was going to digest anytime soon.

When Athanasia finally pulled back and stood, she looked at Tempris with no emotion in her face and said. "As I expected. Your regression is not a curse. It is a blessing. One that far surpasses anything I have ever encountered."

Tempris tilted her head in confusion.

Athanasia continued. "The continuous regression she experiences is nothing but her own doing. Her own power activating in her unconscious state the moment she is dying."

She paused to let the weight of her next words settle.

"She carries the greatest weapon. A weapon for which I believe the world itself wants to erase her. The power of time."

Everyone stiffened at that word.

"A power to change fate. To bend reality itself however she needs. And that is precisely why the universe wants her gone. Because her very existence defies its laws."

Evangeline spoke with a furrowed brow. "But that makes no sense. If she is this powerful, then why didn’t we in the present know about her? We didn’t even know that the Witch of Eternity existed."

Athanasia responded evenly. "The world is not as simple as you think. Even after connecting everything about her and about us, I still have many unanswered questions. But I am certain most of the answers lie within this girl."

She glanced down at Tempris. "As I said, time itself will bow to her if she learns to control her power. And therefore there are two possibilities here. First, she is hunted down and successfully erased from our past. Wiped from history entirely."

She held up a second finger. "And second, she survives. Escapes her real death and chooses to erase herself with her own power to hide. And is still alive somewhere in our present."

Her voice carried a rare trace of fascination. "After all, it is impossible to predict the future of a child who carries infinite possibilities in her pocket."

Lavinia clutched her head with both hands. "Please! I beg you! Stop! You are using too many big words! My tiny brain is officially short-circuiting and I cannot process a single thing you are saying right now!"

Athanasia simplified without changing her expression. "In short. Protecting her or killing her, both are a gamble. Because we have no way of knowing whether our future involves her death or her survival."

Jax’s voice came out blunt as a hammer. "There is no option of killing her. And that is the last time I will say it. So take your list of possibilities, roll them up nice and tight, and stick them up your ass."

Athanasia’s jaw tightened at his choice of words. While she was internally cursing him, a system notification appeared in front of Jax’s eyes.

[New Quest: Protect the Witch of Eternity]

[Reward: Domain of Authority]

[Description: Grants the user a one-on-one domain with an opponent. User receives a 30% buff while the opponent is nerfed by 50%.]

Jax thought. ’This skill is game changing. I absolutely cannot afford to lose this reward. It would be perfect for countering Celestials.’

In the meantime, Athanasia had closed the distance and was standing shoulder to shoulder with him. Speaking quietly enough that only he could hear.

"I still don’t understand your sudden attachment to this child. But let me warn you. This absolute possessiveness you have developed is not going to end well for you."

Her eyes carried ice. "And long before your stupidity gets you killed, you might die by my hand."

Jax replied without looking at her. "It seems you didn’t pay attention in class yesterday regarding how to behave when I am around."

Without another word his hand snapped to his hilt. In a single blinding flash of silver, he swung his sword and cleaved her body perfectly in two.

As her upper half began sliding toward the ground, Jax looked down with completely dead eyes and spoke. "Consider this a warning. The real punishment is reserved for a body with a beating heart."

The girls were frozen in shock at what he had just done. But their shock doubled when Athanasia’s body dissolved into thin air instead of hitting the ground.

Then a voice drifted from the corner of the low cliff. "I will take that insult to heart."

Athanasia stood there looking out at the royal capital spread below them. She added without turning. "However, before we settle our personal differences, we have a much larger board to play on."

She turned to face him. "So, Professor. What is your master plan from here?"

Jax had nothing. Only chaotic ideas entering his mind one after another, each more destructive than the last. But then he heard a growl. Not from a beast. From a stomach.

He looked down at Tempris who was clutching her tiny belly and trying very hard to pretend she wasn’t starving.

He smiled. Scooped her up into his arms and declared with absolute seriousness. "First? We are going to infiltrate the capital and hunt down the greatest delicacy they have."

Several hours later. Late at night.

Tempris was already asleep in the room of an inn where Jax and the others were staying. They had successfully made it inside the city walls and even secured money to spend.

Jax’s original plan was simple. Beat down the guards and take their money. But his masterful strategy was shut down by majority vote. So it was Lavinia who took the lead instead, using her hypnosis magic on the guards to make them obey and hand over their valuables willingly.

With the hardened earnings collected from eight obedient guards, they filled their stomachs at a local tavern.

Now Jax sat on the inn’s rooftop staring at the night sky while everyone else slept. Thinking about how to pull this off when there wasn’t a single clue to work with.

Inside the room where Tempris was sleeping, a shadow moved. Delphine had secretly entered. She was carrying a dagger.

Her steps were silent. Her breathing controlled. She approached the bed where the tiny dragon slept peacefully and raised the blade toward the child’s throat.

Tempris murmured in her sleep. "No... please don’t leave me, Mister."

Tears were forming at the edges of her closed eyes. "I promise... I would be a good girl."

Delphine’s hand was trembling. The dagger hovering inches from the child’s neck but refusing to descend.

She screamed internally. ’Damn it, Delphine, just get this over with! She is a monster! If she grows up, she won’t hesitate to commit mass murder! She is the only thing standing between us and our home!’

But instead of plunging the blade down, her arm dropped to her side in defeat.

That’s when a voice came from behind her. Casual. Almost bored.

"What happened, Delphine? Why are you hesitating in plunging it in and saving the world?"

She turned and found Jax leaning against the wall. Arms crossed. Watching her with eyes that had been there the entire time.

He clicked his tongue with a disappointed smirk. "Man, what a shame. I’m deducting points for that pathetic hesitation."
