Chapter 324: I Don’t See Any Hands Here...
Chapter 324: I Don’t See Any Hands Here...
Jax strolled casually away from the epicenter of the carnage without even bothering to look back as the grand Imperial Palace tore itself apart behind him.
The clash of steel and explosive mana from the two warring factions was like a soothing lullaby of absolute destruction playing in his ears, and regretfully he didn’t have the time to pull up a chair and offer colorful commentary because he still had a job to do.
However regarding his previous job, he passed with flying colors. The diversion was created, the chaos was delivered, and now he was walking through the royal estate while casually redirecting panicked warriors toward the ruined mess that was called a palace just a moment ago.
A pack of warriors came marching in a hurry and Jax went full dramatic, throwing his arms wide and screaming at them. "You absolute fools, what are you doing out here?! Our Emperor is bleeding out in the rubble and you lot are going for a stroll?! Hurry up! If you can hold a weapon, get in there and fight! If you are completely useless like me, spread the word! Double it and pass it to the next person! May our glorious Lord survive this tragedy! Long live..."
He paused. Because he realized he had absolutely no idea which faction these men belonged to.
He stared at them. They stared back. An incredibly awkward second of silence passed as Jax simply widened his eyes and aggressively waited for them to fill in the blank.
Finally the confused captain raised his sword and roared. "Long live Emperor Oberon!"
With their allegiance confirmed the pack of warriors dashed blindly toward the collapsing building.
Jax thought to himself as he watched them sprint away. ’Dogs of that guy then. I wonder how they will react after seeing their glorious Emperor fighting for his life completely butt-naked and missing an arm. It is going to be really hard to salute that.’
He was thoroughly enjoying the ruin he had authored when suddenly his face shifted as rage consumed it. ’You guys are lucky that I am leaving you alive for committing such a vile crime as kidnapping a child.’
He clenched his fist and scanned the estate where everyone was running toward the commotion. ’What is taking the girls this long? I have already pulled all the guards away from their posts like a human magnet. Did something go wrong on their end?’
And at that moment one guard from the thousands of soldiers scrambling around was walking toward Jax instead of away from him. Jax immediately launched into character. "Get back in there! Emperor Oberon needs you! That absolute psycho Damian stripped him naked and is currently trying to sheathe his legendary spear straight up His Majesty’s royal rear!"
He cupped his ear dramatically. "Listen! Do you hear that high-pitched squealing?! The longer you stand here, the deeper that spear goes! Get in there and save his delicate cheeks before he turns into an imperial shish kebab!"
The guard completely ignored every word and kept approaching with a flat expression that didn’t match someone who had just been told their Emperor was being violated with a legendary weapon.
Jax knew something was off, maybe he had accidentally picked Damian’s dog this time, so he prepared his sword. But then the guard spoke in a monotone that was clearly not his own voice. "I am a messenger from the lovely and cute Lady Lavinia. I am here to report the current situation in the prison."
Jax looked at his glazed-over eyes and realized instantly that this poor man was being controlled and manipulated by Lavinia’s hypnosis magic. Even his word choices reeked of her influence.
So he dropped his guard and said. "Tell me about the current situation on their end."
The guard reported with the same flat tone. "Evangeline and Delphine are currently indulged in a fight with the Grand Magus who is overpowering them while Athanasia and the adorable Lavinia got caught spying and are currently fighting and hiding from the enemies chasing them."
Jax hissed through his teeth and said. "Your so-called adorable Lavinia would be fine so guide me to the cells first."

Back in the prison, Delphine and Evangeline were being toyed with by the empire’s greatest magus, a man scaled at number two on the power rankings.
Delphine’s arrows hadn’t left a single dent on him as his high-tier spells layered a protection around his body that treated her attacks like mosquito bites while he was just having fun with the intruders.
He even turned his back against Evangeline, which would have been a fatal mistake for any fighter. But was it?
Behind him Evangeline was already floating in the air using her wind steps and as she descended on Grand Magus Loid she channeled a wind blade aimed directly at his exposed back. But the attack only found the ground beneath her because a second before impact Loid had simply vanished from the spot.
His voice came from behind her now carrying genuine appreciation. "Advanced-tier magic! You girls are really impressive considering your age. But what a pity that you chose the wrong side."
Evangeline panicked as she realized Loid was standing directly behind her and stumbled to the ground trying to create distance.
Delphine screamed from across the room. "Evangeline, watch out!"
Delphine had already fired the most powerful arrow in her arsenal, a weapon that was gifted to her ancestors and rewarded by the legendary fire spirit itself. Evangeline fumbled but managed to throw herself out of the arrow’s path just in time.
Loid smiled watching the glowing projectile approach him and said. "Impressive. But why does it feel so familiar? Have we fought before?"
Delphine ignored him and began the incantation with her voice carrying the authority of a bloodline that had been entrusted with this power for generations. "O Sovereign of the Primordial Flame, honor the ancient pact! Awaken from the embers and reduce my enemy to ash!"
The arrow that was already scorching with a magma-like burning terror transformed mid-flight into a fire monkey beast whose mere presence changed the surrounding environment entirely.
The ground where it traveled split with cracks, the walls and buildings of the prison that had already been damaged from the earlier fighting started shaking, and the heat it radiated made the air itself warp.
The fire spirit was about to swallow Loid whole and Delphine’s grin was spreading across her face in victory. But that grin died instantly as she watched her attack, the one meant to swallow the magus, become the one that got swallowed instead.
Loid stood there casually with a void hole floating ahead of him that was slowly and methodically erasing the fire spirit from existence, consuming it piece by piece until nothing remained.
His smile faded as he touched the slight burn marks the attack had managed to leave on his face and said with a tone that had lost all its playfulness. "How can you possess something this dangerous? I should end our little game now. So be a good girl and surrender then answer whatever I interrogate you about, your cult, your goals, and the source of your power or your cult’s."
Delphine ground her teeth in frustration and muttered. "Damn it, how are we supposed to defeat this monster? There is no way."
Then her eyes found Tempris in the corner of the room. The tiny dragon was locked inside a small magical prison that was keeping her unconscious, held there as a captive with no way to fight back or even wake up.
Something burned inside Delphine seeing that and she pulled her bowstring again. But she wasn’t the only one pulling that string because Loid had teleported beside her and was now holding the bow alongside her, his fingers resting on hers in a mockery of assistance.
He spoke with an angry tone that had replaced the amusement entirely. "Didn’t I tell you to obey like the dogs you are?"
He raised his hand to slap her across the face.
But the hand was caught midway.
All three pairs of eyes went to the person who had just grabbed the Grand Magus of the Heutrian Empire mid-swing to protect a girl he barely knew.
It was Jax. His eyes had gone completely dark and his skin was marked with dark spots spreading across his flesh as if he had accepted some devil’s power into his body.
He spoke with a voice that made the temperature in the room drop. "Do you have any idea what the consequences are for raising a hand against my student... and doing it right under my watch?"
Loid’s anger burned even hotter as he ripped his hand free from Jax’s grip. "So you are their leader. But how dare a filthy demon follower even think about touching my hand?"
Jax responded with a flat tone that carried nothing except the truth. "What hands?"
Loid felt something strange immediately after those words left Jax’s mouth and as he looked down at his wrist he watched his hand separating from his body in a clean cut that he never felt being made until it dropped to the floor with a wet thud.
He looked up in horror and pain and found the source. Standing beside Jax and holding a sword was the sword saint Clarice, the sword of the empire and the one ranked above Loid at number one, the very reason he could never climb higher no matter how hard he tried. Her blade was still dripping with his blood.
Loid managed to speak through the agony. "Clarice, how can you betray us?"
Clarice didn’t acknowledge him at all. She turned to Jax and said with complete obedience. "Master, awaiting your next order."
