Chapter 674 Absurd
Chapter 674 Absurd
The seasoned police officer said unhurriedly, "If we handle this, it'll be classified as mutual assault, and both sides will be detained."
The security guards and Manager Yang were quite polite, responding, "We'll cooperate however you need."
If they were actually detained, it would only be for a few days, and the authorities would definitely side with them. Not only would it not affect their jobs, but they'd also walk away with a nice bonus and have curried favor with the boss. What a sweet deal.
Old Peter was stunned when he heard this, shouting, "What? Why should we be detained when we were the ones who got beaten?"
Pete quickly stepped in front of his father and asked, "If we go for mediation, how would that work?"
The old officer glanced at him and said, "For mediation, mutual assault means each side covers their own medical costs. From the looks of it, none of you have serious injuries."
"No way. Then we'd be taking a huge loss!"
Old Peter jumped up again.
"Who told you to throw the first punch?"
The officer shot back without any politeness.
"Is there no justice anymore? No law in this world?!"
Old Peter's face turned green with rage.
Pete was more concerned about his job, after all, that old Benz was the boss's beloved car.
It wasn't worth much if sold, and the boss could afford a brand-new luxury model, but the man was sentimental, calling the car the lucky charm that had accompanied his rise to success.
Every year, the maintenance costs alone were substantial. It was kept in immaculate condition, so precious that even his own relatives weren't allowed to drive it, treated as delicately as his own father.
Pete quickly grabbed his father. "Officer, we want mediation, but our car has to be driven out."
"The property management has to tear down that wall. This is way too bullying."
Manager Yang immediately responded, "The wall wasn't put up by the property management. The owner of the parking space built it themselves."
The officer went down to the underground garage to take a look, then said casually, "Who told you to park in someone else's spot? Did you leave a phone number to move the car?"
"We did!"
But Pete sounded a bit guilty.
Just then, the property management produced a recording provided by Nancy. As soon as the call connected, there was a torrent of screaming and cursing.
Even the officer frowned as he listened, and the young hothead beside him added, "You park in someone else's spot and act all high and mighty, refuse to move the car, and curse them out like that, no wonder they're furious."
His tone was dripping with sarcasm, practically saying, "You had it coming."
Having been on countless calls, they'd seen all kinds of messy people and situations, and the ones they hated most were exactly this type of clueless, arrogant jerk.
From that commanding tone earlier, the two men hadn't sounded like they were asking for help, but rather like they were ordering the officers around.
Even without any orders from above, no one would favor people like that, especially since they were in the wrong from the start.
"Cursing isn't against the law!"
Old Peter said frantically, "But walling in my son's car is against the law. Don't you dare cover for them. Call someone right now and tear that wall down."
"Private property is sacred and inviolable."
Manager Yang reminded him on the side, "Our lawyer says that within the bounds of the parking space, even the property management has no right to interfere. And this wall has economic value, too."
The seasoned officer, rich with experience, snorted and said, "That's right. You think you can park in someone else's spot just because you want to? Does that mean if a house is empty, you can just move in? That's straight-up thug logic."
"This isn't our jurisdiction. The owner has the right to carry out legal modifications and construction on their own parking space as long as they don't violate fire safety laws."
"If you're not satisfied, you can take legal action."
With that, the officers left, leaving the father and son from the Peng family standing there dumbfounded.
They were frozen at the entrance of the property management office. Manager Yang laughed mockingly and said, "Let me remind you, those walls are worth tens of thousands of dollars."
"If you dare damage them on your own, it won't be their problem anymore, you'll be looking at criminal charges."
Manager Yang finished laughing and went back inside. The father and son stood there at the property management entrance, utterly bewildered. Old Peter had always been a thick-skinned bully who never took no for an answer, how had he ever suffered such a loss before?
Pete gritted his teeth and said, "Dad, maybe we should just swallow our pride. If I can't get the car back in service, my boss will fire me."
"Swallow my ass. I'll swallow that bitch's…"
Old Peter's eyes turned red. He turned around and walked off, no one knew where he was going.
"Dad! Dad!"
Pete shouted in frustration, but Old Peter didn't look back.
Just then, Minda finally showed herself and said, "Young man, you seem like someone who understands reason. Why are you acting so absurd with your father and not trying to stop him?"
"My father was pushed to the brink by that bitch. She made him lose face in front of my girlfriend's family. How is that absurd?"
Seeing that the uniform belonged to property management, Pete immediately snorted with contempt.
Minda gave a mysterious smile and said, "Face is something you lose on your own. Your father hasn't told a single truth. How about you see how he actually got into that conflict?"
With that, Minda gestured for Pete to come inside. Pete was now as frantic as an ant on a hot pan.
He had no idea what to do, but gritting his teeth, he still braced himself and followed her in.
