Chapter 742 Something Is Wrong...
Chapter 742 Something Is Wrong...
The speed of food delivery was very fast. Sitting in the air conditioning and looking at the table full of sumptuous dishes, Logan directly took out two bottles of sorghum.
"Luis has to drive, so he probably shouldn't drink, right?"
Eloise said this with a tone of concern.
Logan rolled his eyes and said, "Just call a designated driver. Or, if it's easier, we can tidy up a bit and just sleep here tonight. Can't we free up one room out of three?"
"Hehe, it's no big deal. Today, Little Aunt was successfully discharged from the hospital, so it feels great to have a drink and celebrate."
As soon as the door was closed, the mother and daughter, along with Serena, were all wearing cool but not overly revealing dresses, a very pleasing sight.
Logan took off his shirt and encouraged Luis to also bare his shoulders…
He even insisted on pouring wine for Eloise and Serena, who normally never touched a drop of alcohol. This time, Eloise didn't complain.
With the typical patriarch's attitude, that lecturing and nagging tone immediately emerged: "Serena, this time we really owe it to Luis for running around doing so much. Your injury is no longer a problem, so no matter what, you need to toast him."
"Thank you so much for everything this time!"
Serena raised her glass willingly and sincerely.
Running around tirelessly, providing meticulous care, covering the medical expenses upfront… helping to deal with the insurance, and even after leaving the hospital, securing more than five hundred dollars in lost wages compensation.
Even if her own father were still alive, he couldn't have been so considerate.
"Drink it slowly!"
Eloise watched her down the drink in one go and said this with a cheerful smile.
"We're all family here, no need to stand on ceremony."
Luis also finished his drink.
A charming blush immediately rose on Serena's small face, and her eyes, looking at Luis, were particularly mesmerizing, all dewy and bright.
They ate their dishes and drank their sorghum. Ariana, who was drinking cola, finished her meal early and went back to her room to do homework.
Serena and Eloise kept them company with the drinks, taking small sips that didn't seem like much at first glance, but as time passed and they kept sitting there, it added up, and soon both their faces were flushed with the color of wine.
"Luis, your tolerance for alcohol is truly impressive!"
By the time they were on the second bottle, Logan laughed heartily.
"Hehe, it's rare that Uncle has some free time, so of course I have to make sure I drink well with you."
Hearing this, Logan laughed even more joyfully. Eloise and Serena exchanged a glance, both feeling a bit scornful, yet also finding it a little amusing and exasperating.
The truth was, no one usually invited him to drink or eat. The one who was truly wealthy and busy was Luis. But with this slight shift in wording, Logan was absolutely delighted.
This kind of person would rather suffer face than lose it, making him hated by gods and loathed by ghosts. Still, his personality traits were clear enough.
Cater to his preferences, throw in a little flattery, especially when you're in a stronger position than he is, and he'll be extremely receptive.
"By the way, Aunt, Uncle, there's something I want to discuss with you."
"We moved, remember? That previous duplex apartment, we're planning to restore it to its original layout and then rent it out…"
"The furniture we bought back then is all good quality. It would be a shame to let tenants use it. But we don't have anywhere else to move it to."
"Your furniture here is getting old, but your place is spacious. If you moved this furniture in here and used it, nothing would go to waste."
Luis still spoke with a very earnest expression: "Of course, don't think I'm looking down on you."
Eloise felt quite touched listening to this, because she knew perfectly well that the new furniture her older sister had bought was really valuable, high-quality stuff.
"Is that so? Alright then. You can work out the details with your Aunt."
Logan said in a chauvinistic manner, "Men handle external affairs, women handle internal ones. Since you, a relative, have already asked, of course your Uncle agrees."
Eloise rolled her eyes, thinking to herself that this was clearly taking advantage of a good situation, yet he acted as if he had rendered some great service.
And so it was happily settled. After eating and drinking their fill, Luis said, "Then let's not buy that cot for Little Aunt's room either…"
"Fine…"
Logan agreed readily.
Once they were full and satisfied, Luis left first. Spending the night here could wait for another opportunity.
Previously, the odd-shaped duplex his mother-in-law lived in consisted of three one-bedroom units, one under each of the three daughters' names. Now that they had moved to a villa, leaving it empty wasn't an option. After discussing it with his mother-in-law, they planned to find workers to restore it to three separate units and then rent them out. She was handling that matter. It wouldn't do to let tenants use the good furniture, so naturally, this was a perfect opportunity to pass along a favor.
Early the next morning, the property management helped find a moving company and hired professional workers to dismantle all the beds, including Leah's previous desk and cabinets. Luis also arrived at their house early in the morning with his crew. Ariana took a special day off from school; in the past, Logan would never have agreed to that. They had all gotten up early and packed the items they wanted to keep.
With a wave of Luis's hand, the workers eagerly and swiftly hauled away the old furniture, including the folding dining table and the living room sofa set made of plywood, which was older than Luis himself and completely cracked and broken.
The two-story small building was cleared out as thoroughly as if an army had swept through. And the first to arrive weren't even the movers.
"This…"
Eloise was a bit dumbfounded.
"Wow…"
Ariana, on the other hand, cheered with delight.
The old, rusty iron windows were torn out and replaced with custom-made stainless steel ones that had been rushed through production overnight.
Inside the small building, the dilapidated wooden doors that couldn't be locked were also replaced with new wood. With enough money, everything moved at lightning speed.
Old electrical outlets were swapped for new ones, all the lights were changed to LEDs, and they were all relatively new, stylish, and bright models.
"Tonight, you should just stay in a hotel for a bit!!!"
When Logan returned, he was completely stunned. Workers were busily working inside and out, fixing everything. Was this simply replacing furniture????
"This, weren't we just moving furniture?"
"Uncle, a lot of good leftover materials from our renovation would be a waste to throw away. Since the electrical wiring was old anyway, it was a good time to tidy it up. Safety first, to avoid short circuits."
He had them pack a few simple clothes and stay in a hotel for a couple of days, but Logan shook his head and said, "I won't be going…"
"What's wrong?"
Hearing this, Luis's eyes lit up. Was this massive human light bulb finally showing some awareness???
"I'm not going to waste money like that. I'll just make do in my dormitory."
Logan shook his head with a smile.
All the teachers at the township school were locals. Few actually lived on campus, but each had a small dorm room, convenient for afternoon naps and serving as a home away from home.
Rumor had it that many of these rooms were used for trysts, with quite a few steamy tales circulating about what happened during the lunch breaks.
Eloise never really cared about this. Not necessarily because she now only felt contempt and disdain for Logan.
Rather, she trusted other people's judgment. What normal, sensible woman, especially those picky female teachers and students, could possibly find someone like him appealing, a man riddled with flaws?
Besides, her old man, Logan… had lacked vitality even when young. Now, even when he pees with the wind, he ends up dripping on his own shoes.
