Chapter 6561: The Conflicted Wen Xue
“Miss Wen Xue, do you... need something from Miss Li Wu?” Bai Yunqing asked as he glanced at the figure behind Wen Xue—Wuma Hanshuang.
“What do you want?” Li Wu coldly asked.
“I’ll trade two lives for Miss Li Wu’s life. How does that sound?” Wen Xue asked.
Li Wu’s eyes immediately turned cold. She could tell right away that Wen Xue was up to something terrible.
Bai Yunqing remained unguarded toward Wen Xue because the latter was Chu Feng’s friend.
Before Bai Yunqing could finish his words, Wen Xue’s left hand shot for Bai Yunqing’s neck.
Without any hesitation, Li Wu thrust her palm toward Wen Xue, unleashing a powerful wave of black aura. This was not just a simple execution of martial skill, for it harnessed curse energy.
But the gush of curse energy visibly diminished as it approached Wen Xue. Eventually, it shrunk into a weak bundle of black aura and landed in Wen Xue’s right palm.
“Mmm, what a pure taste. I love it.” Wen Xue leaned in to sniff the black aura on her palm before revealing a satisfied look.
Li Wu instinctively pulled Feng Ling behind her while looking at Bai Yunqing with worried eyes. However, she didn’t continue her attack, for it had become apparent that Wen Xue was not only stronger than her but Wuma Hanshuang as well.
Wen Xue had been hiding her true strength all along.
“Who are you?” Bai Yunqing endured the pain and questioned.
“Who am I? I am Wen Xue,” Wen Xue smiled.
Bai Yunqing was dazed. His mind had gone blank. He thought the other party had impersonated Wen Xue, but it seemed unnecessary for her to do so, considering how strong she was. In other words, she was most likely Wen Xue.
“Miss Wen Xue, why are you doing this to us?” Bai Yunqing asked.
Despite being held hostage, Bai Yunqing’s tone became softer after confirming that Wen Xue was not an impostor.
“Are you dumb? She’s a natural oddity as well! She wants my power! The two lives she mentioned refer to you and Feng Ling. She’s using you and Feng Ling to threaten me!” Li Wu exclaimed.
“Indeed. Miss Li Wu is sharp-witted,” Wen Xue said with a grin.
“This can’t be true. Miss Wen Xue, you’re just joking with us, right? Aren’t you my big brother’s friend? Weren’t you the one who brought us here?” Bai Yunqing asked.
“That’s why I needed Chu Feng to ascertain your safety before making a move. Otherwise, he’ll suspect that I’m behind your deaths.”
Boom!
A surge of teleportation energy suddenly enveloped Bai Yunqing, allowing him to escape from Wen Xue’s clutches. It was Bai Yunqing’s protection treasure.
However, it only teleported him not too far away from where Wen Xue was.
“I’ve already sealed off the area. You can’t escape even with a teleportation formation,” Wen Xue pointed out.
Bai Yunqing kneeled to Wen Xue and said, “Miss Wen Xue, kill me if you want to, but please spare Miss Li Wu. I know that my words mean nothing to you, but won’t you at least do it on my big brother Chu Feng’s account?”
Bai Yunqing knew that neither he nor Li Wu was a match for Wen Xue, so he resorted to begging her. His attitude was so earnest that it seemed like he truly intended to trade his life for Li Wu’s.
Wen Xue looked at Bai Yunqing with hesitant eyes. A moment later, she laughed.
She turned to Li Wu and said, “Miss Li Wu, Bai Yunqing might be a blockhead, but he’s worth entrusting your life to. May we meet again. No, it’ll be better if we never meet again.”
With that, Wen Xue left with the puppet Wuma Hanshuang.
“Miss Wen Xue? Miss Wen Xue?” Bai Yunqing instinctively followed Wen Xue out, only to find that she had left. He stood still on the spot, his mind in a complete mess. He struggled to make sense of the situation.
Soon, Li Wu flew out of the formation realm.
“Was Miss Wen Xue testing me to see if I’d be willing to lay down my life for you?” Bai Yunqing asked Li Wu.
“What does she stand to gain from that?” Li Wu asked.
“Maybe she’s a warm-hearted person?”
Li Wu rolled her eyes. She looked at Bai Yunqing as if he were an utter fool. “You still trust her even though she had her hand around your neck? You even asked if she was joking.”
“I don’t trust her. I trust my big brother. My big brother is a good judge of character. I trust his friends,” Bai Yunqing replied.
“Perhaps we should thank Chu Feng for this,” Li Wu said.
“Ah?” Bai Yunqing still hadn’t figured out the situation.
“I was observing her closely. Her killing intent didn’t waver in the slightest when you kneeled and begged her. She only changed her mind when you mentioned Chu Feng.”
“You’re saying that she really coveted your energy?”
“Yes, and I think she only stopped because of Chu Feng. She knows that you’re an important friend to Chu Feng and that he would investigate your death. There is a good chance that he might uncover her as the culprit. Or maybe she feels that Chu Feng entrusted us to her because he trusts her, and she doesn’t want to let down his trust. Either way, she changed her mind because of Chu Feng,” Li Wu said.
“Let’s hurry up and leave then! It’ll be terrible if she changes her mind and returns,” Bai Yunqing exclaimed. He quickly stowed away the formation realm and fled with Li Wu.
Little did he know that a gaze was tracking them. It was Wen Xue.
She hadn’t completely left the area. There was a conflicted look on her face, and it only deepened as she watched them become smaller in her gaze. It eventually reached a point where her little face warped.
Pah!
Wen Xue slapped herself.
“What are you doing? What are you doing! They are just Chu Feng’s friends! There is no reason to let such top-quality curse energy go. Feng Ling has quite the amazing bloodline as well. It’s unlikely that I’ll find a natural oddity with such a bloodline even in the Ninth Galaxy.
“Wen Xue, are you a fool? Why are you hesitating? When did you become so wishy-washy? It’s one thing to go easy on Chu Feng, but you’re going easy on his friends, too. You’re a disappointment!
“Argh!!!!”
Wen Xue stomped her feet while ranting erratically like a lunatic. Despite being so conflicted that she was on the verge of a rampage, she didn’t pursue them.
