Chapter 3017. Spirit tree’s Mana
Chapter 3017. Spirit tree’s Mana
"What are you talking about?" Gil looked up and wondered why Walker was mentioning Remey and the changes to the alchemy guild.
"I mean, Remey is adapting the changes so that they can be upheld for years and years. Why not do the same with the elves who are longer lived overall?" This confused what Gil might be being told by Walker.
"The changes in anything with just the elves won’t happen instantly. You know that, so we need to make things work now and let things happen slowly with the younger elves until they can start teaching their own children one day. Might even take thirty years in some cases."
Brushing off what Walker might be getting at and returning to the papers Gil had just been handed about a proposal for a new experiment with a few other herbs being cross bred with some farm crops, he tried to refocus.
"That’s not what I mean. I mean, have the elven alchemists and herbalists start the same program. But instead of just teaching the elves, have them start to teach their form of herbalism from the forest to other races. The echidna have several different races learning their ways of nature acceptance and preservation."
This caught the attention of Gil properly again. He was beginning to grasp what Walker was saying.
"The exhibition focuses on nature and they have spread their race out the most out of everyone instead of staying on their island or even other continents. They did this to encourage many others to grow closer to nature. And it is why they have begun the druid class trend in many of the younger farmers, elves, and other races. So why not have the elves teach their ways too?"
Walker knew this was happening, but just as Remey was dealing with the ways that some stubborn alchemists acted, Gil and Alma needed to deal with the stubborn ways of older elves or elves who believed themselves too young to pass down their knowledge.
It was also why so many of the archivists were recording such knowledge.
The older elves were not teaching it but they were willing to record everything since that meant the archives would hold a piece of their actions in history forever. Their minds leaned toward it being a permanent fixture like a tree that would grow and provide fruit or homes for generations of elves and monsters.
Whereas they saw the next generation as those who could wait until later to learn and earn the right better by becoming their own entity with their own research.
However, if they began pushing to educate the elves at a younger age then they could advance more. If they did this with other races, they would encourage a greater mixing of the races while also growing their own professions to higher standings in skill and understanding overall too.
"Oh, so you mean make them begin to mentor everyone so that the older elves will be afraid that they can’t find apprentices to learn from them. I tried that with a few archers and a few of them started to teach the younger ones how to make better arrows and bows. The same happened when I was openly teaching the experimental magic arrows we made. Those hollow arrows are still perfect and are being made more and more now.
As the two began to consider this even more, Gil snapped his head to the side. "You felt that too?" He knew that Walker was hiding some of what his newly enhanced mana senses did. Not because he was trying to be secretive, but because he wanted everyone to understand he respected their privacy and did not snoop using the expanded mana senses.
"I did, that was a big shift in mana toward Alma where she should be examining the central grand spirit tree. Its roots are growing around the caverns and lower Genesis area that the dwarves are expanding. She was helping to guide those roots so that they were a foundation holding the underground together too."
They both knew that Alma had that on the list to do today. She could help in that so when the dwarves were strengthening the tunnels and overall underground living areas, it would be stronger. Having the tree bring its roots there too also allowed for mana to flow more smoothly. Not to mention the tree to also be undamaged as the dwarves worked.
The pair was on the move instantly. Walker caught up to Gil and teleported them. The new golem body he was using had utilized the space mana stored within one of its cores perfectly. Gil didn’t even feel the difference between what should have been Walker’s real body and a golem body.
That wasn’t the focus here, though. They were at the base of the central spirit tree looking at hundreds of different herbs growing rapidly.
They were not consuming the nutrients in the soul but instead receiving nutrients from the roots of the spirit tree itself. It was growing them and Alma was resting on the ground watching it all happen.
Her face was pale, but the mana that she appeared to have absorbed was greater as well. The herbs also growing because she had been using her skill.
Even more, her physique seemed more plump than before. Not just that, but she appeared to have stepped ahead of what should have taken months.
"Don’t worry. Don’t worry. It realized I am providing for a new life and it reacted. I didn’t know or realize it. The spirit tree likes to foster new life. A lot of mothers to be have been coming here to rest and I didn’t think it would provide mana. I was using my skill and it poured too much mana through me. I grew all this and it will stop soon."
Her breath was quick but her words still held the same tone of comfort that she used when she and Gil would speak about the family that they were growing.
The fact that mothers enjoyed coming here and felt comfortable here was already known. It was the same reason that many of them went to the cathedral and met the healers and experts responsible for delivering many babies.
A practice that was increasing as more races pooled their knowledge together to support the next generations being born safely and healthy.
"I could care less what it did out of its will or instincts or whatever bonds it has with new life. You look exhausted and you will be staying in bed whether you want to or not!" Gil wasn’t even hesitating in picking Alma up and walking toward their home. He was going to be watching over her and not letting her sneak in to the offices or any project she had to oversee.
"We have assistance and leadership for a reason. You don’t have to do everything and you certainly don’t need to be here absorbing mana to help grow our child faster and healthier. Do you want me to have Remey brought over to yell at you for abusing the nutrient potions she made for you? I will have you..."
The muffled laughter from Walker was entirely ignored while Gil rambled on. It was moments like this where he showed his true focus on life.
He’d sworn many times to help everyone and be a hero. He acted that way as well. But when his love was tested he would show the purity that a hero should have for those he protected. It was just comical to see it since he joked around and was always trying to sneak out of the serious work.
This left Walker to handle the situation here though. He could ask Remey, Alice, Su, Gil, and Alma for their opinions on what happened later. They would have a thing or two to say about Alma’s current state and other mothers since they all worked in some aspect of the next generation growing with their mothers.
The herbs that grew did not fade, they had slowed and stopped growing as Alma moved away. Her skill had been active and plenty of the herbs growing her had taken advantage of the manas available and the central grand spirit tree’s gift of nutrients.
Their size was large and had potent qualities. But they also needed to be harvested while the manas around calmed. The spirit tree even slowly moved in a soft breeze like it was taking a deep breath and starting to nap after hard work.
"I will need a bit of help harvesting all of this so more people can visit in the coming days." The words seemed annoyed but the tone was happier than before. Enough to prove that Walker felt this development meant the people and nature were in fact closer than before.
