Chapter 3039: 3039. Missing Parts

"Just like the high elf dagger style the mana is brought right to me. It’s fundamental. But it’s not the same as the archery style. The dagger style was made later because the elves needed more variation in their skills." Gil was holding a book brought to him by a few attendants and assistance to the archery instructors.

They had seen the benefits in sending off others to find these documents. They knew very well that the recorded history of the elves and the high elves was still being rediscovered.

Yet, there was the important fact that the high elves had also lost the technique as they lost the high elf bloodline and split themselves as a race becoming the average elf of today.

Not that this was bad, everything changed over time. Generations would never do the same things in the exact same ways. Better tools, modern methods, and new knowledge could change it all.

However, it was the lack of mana being drawn in to techniques that became the focus. Partially because the elves had separated and also partially because the world had lost the flow of mana necessary to show the same effects within such skills.

Gil demonstrated the archery styles and how they were not even complete from one version to the other. The earth style was missing important aspects like defending from incoming ranged attacks and also how there was not much in movement for potential dodging.

This was not because it wasn’t considered, but because the records and teaching of these portions of the style were lost.

Simply put, Gil was doing double duty with the present instructors who now numbered in ten rather than three.

They had to look at the missing pieces from each individual technique to begin even considering how they would rebuild the entire skill as a whole to approach the same high elf archery technique.

Yet, the high elf archery technique was not the goal. Gil was focusing so hard on this so he could lay a foundation of an ancient arcane archery technique created by the elves. From there, he would look at modernizing it and using it to enhance and push his class further. Maybe then he would be able to see more of the path he was on.

Better yet, he could record the ways he learned and pursued this path so that others would have the chance to also follow in his foot steps.

"We need to look for the resting stage in the wind elf style too. There is a constant movement but what about standing air? What stance do we take that shows we are poisoned to move in an instant if a breeze was to pick up? Or if there was an outside force changing the flow of the wind?"

His question started murmuring ideas to one another. Gil had basically begun a massive lesson while Remey had stopped and watched the potions she used to disrupt his active use of mana wear off.

This had been enlightening for her as well. This was a potion that was not tested often because of the dangers associated with it. Therefore, she was able to see the length of time on the potion’s effects while also judging it from the perspective of knowing that Gil was already highly resistant to any poison or negative effects.

She also did not stop herself from testing the effects and finding that it halted her own use of alchemy flames. This was foolhardy to be clear but also wise.

She would not have a time or place to test this herself and see what limits she was faced with in these conditions.

The party had only fought a couple of times without their mana based skills and effects. Being in a situation where they may not be able to use them was potentially more valuable for them as a whole.

Walker would have tested this, but he felt the manas within the golem body surge and repel even the small mist that escaped the vial as Remey had opened it. From his perspective, this was an additional aspect of his race and multiple skills he gained for using the golem bodies.

Since they reacted as his own body would, the instinctive movement of mana to defend himself had happened. It meant that such a detrimental potion would not even have a chance to affect him whatsoever. Instead, it was repelled with vigor as the mana moved according to his nature.

Then again, this also showed him the growth of the skills he gained while he used the golem bodies.

The more that he became accustomed to them as they were extensions of himself, the more he would use them as they were exactly his main body.

This also brought forward to his mind the ability to better sense mana through his golem bodies. Not just because one was within the elemental planes. It was because this one here was entirely focused on tracking the manas pulled in by other’s techniques and skills.

This was showcasing the ability to predict and determine how mana would be used by others. Not just because they allowed it to be seen, but even the fact that their movements alone better showed their usage of mana. That they would affect the world by simply being there but what that effect was.

He’d focused on the fact that people affected the world by using their mana, existing in certain areas, and the movements they took. He knew that for some time.

But being able to use that knowledge smoothly to determine the effects of their actions? To understand exactly the causes and effects so clearly?

That was newer. That was being ironed out and made clear to him which was definitely enhancing his ability to read opponents and potentially teach others.

Even if he was watching someone use a skill he had no knowledge of, he should be able to determine areas of issue now. Something that would allow him to have overall better insight regardless of the time or topics.

"So if you watch me move with the chasing and combative energy that the flame bow style was made after, I should have more bow strikes to use in close combat, but it is interrupted where an upward swing feels natural. The end of the fire elf bows also were traditionally made with points made of obsidian." Gil showed the long bow, it was for training but he could easily explain the differences that each style required of their bows.

It also enlightened the instructors of areas they felt that they were missing their entire lives.

Some of them had studied archery and ended up following more generic paths. Simply because they always found that the styles given to them were lacking. Now they were feeling like they had been unwilling and lacking courage.

Not generally, bit to face and question why the styles kept in history books were not worth learning.

They believed that they should have challenged them and repaired them sooner. It might have brought them further than they were now. It might have changed the course of their entire lives.

"I don’t understand how that would not end with you being harmed. I have seen some elven bows made with grips that have guards on the front that also act as shields? How does that work?"

One of the adventurers was asking the right questions.

"That was an ice elf bow. An older one had a hand wrap and barely enough space for the arrow they fired to pass through. It was because some monsters in the north would shoot ice spikes or needles at them and they could block it better while firing precise arrows. Their style depends on precision and also handling the attacks. It is very different from the water elf style, which is about flow and firing even as the flow changes."

The more that Walker listened, the more he felt similarities to how he learned of natural mana. How the styles were adding up to better and better lessons related to understanding the nature of the world and the manas that made it up.

"Where we will not focus is the styles of archery from elves that separated from the world and ended up in the elemental planes. They stopped even being elves in general since their race changed so much that their styles and their existence are not applicable." Gil made a good point.

Those that left the world lost the unification of mana. They had other benefits and that was that. No one was wrong but here in the world, the mana and atmosphere was different. Those here had to understand that everything here interacted with one another. Nothing was alone and isolated. There was not one singular mana and foundation on all things they could see.

The world was diverse for a reason.
