Chapter 3053: 3053. Not Complete, but Perfect

"I focused too much on the arrows."

"You focused too much on the arrows."

Walker had taken that chance to join the conversation and Alma leaned back in her chair watching the two.

She had hoped for results and this was what she expected from them.

She knew very well that allowing Gil to take time from the work of their positions was enough to encourage them to have more to offer their people. Not just in the style of what they might have been missing to grow stronger, but what they might need to change their perspective about what they already know.

Besides this, Alma was watching Gil and Walker bond even more.

As much as she did not like when the two of them ran off on their ideas and theories, she did actually enjoy the results.

She could see the passion that Gil had for what he did even more clearly. She also got to see the family that Gil had managed to find before he met her and what he believed family was. How he would translate that in to the child that they would be raising and supporting with all of their effort.

It made her rest more easily day to day since she could tell their family future was going to be even better than what she might have ever imagined.

"So show me." She eventually spoke up. The office being an odd place but one that she would refuse to leave since she would have had her subordinates bring her here for the briefings she received recently anyway. It was also the very place she could get Gil back on paperwork if he decided to act foolish.

Gil and Walker looked at one another carefully. "Walker can easily protect the office and everyone from anything you do. So use a blunt tipped arrow and make a bow using your skill to show me. Then I can decide if you are going to show everyone the partially understood origins of the archery and arcane archery professions they have been studying forever."

This was her way of telling them that they had to make sure they were ready to show every single elf that their foundations had become skewed over the years.

That their knowledge was incomplete when they believed themselves masters of archery and more. Besides this, it was also their way of showing that the trip had been enough to change Gil’s perspective in a way that gave him new insight.

While Alma already trusted that he had achieved what he set out to do, it was the fact that Gil needed to show proof here that would solidify it. Not just for her, but for the few attendants who she knew would go gossiping to other elders and higher officials that she put in place.

The inevitable gossip was, as always, annoying. But managing to have a leash on it was her way as a leader within her people and for her people to ensure that they took the positive further.

"Water mana, I will be able to handle that best right now." Walker brought more water mana in to the air condensing it to a mist within the room. The office felt smaller after the mist gathered but Gil had already ignored the look and the place. He was focused on the feeling.

"The water style archery we learned and trained has always been fluid in movement. The bow was always able to change angle and shoot where it was needed. Even dodging with the flow and using the bow ends to stab as potentially the best moves it had. But it also draws water mana naturally and condenses it."

His words were not a description for himself. It was more like Gil chanting to understand his own actions here. The moves were spoken so that he could allow himself the feeling of what it must have been like before his time.

"Moving to grab drifting sticks and sharpened rocks to use as projectiles, they would have had to propel them with the flow of a river. The movement of a waterfall. The pressure of a deep lake. The ancient elves had to rely on nature’s natural power behind that flow as they moved to hunt using and through water."

The water mana began to gather in his hands.

This time, unlike when he pulled at manas to form an arrow, the shape became more accustomed to his arms and body. His movements as he shifted to show the way he could position his hands to fire an arrow also seemed to be attracting more and more water mana in to a condensed form.

The shape of a long bow was there. Not a similar or interestingly unique shape, but one that looked simple and practical.

Yet, as the basic blunt arrow touched it, water condensed and wrapped it making the arrow become a clean and cut blue piercing arrow. Even the air in the office was cooler like the water wished to form in to ice but was just slightly too far from being able to do so.

"The water is a carrier. Nature would bring the arrow in to flow because the elves asked it to do so. They offered their bodies as the anchor for that flow and then the mana and the arrow worked together with that as the base line."

"Then they would fire that arrow and find their prey to feed them for the day."

His words turned to a whisper, images of how the elves could have survived in wet lands and river terrains. How they could have survived hunting and gathering while being pursued by predators around a larger lake. How even the rain storms that could cause others to struggle became an advantage to their style and ways of life.

Walker used a much greater amount of mana from the golem body to trap the arrow trying to flow. He realized that it would have pierced any basic shields and the walls here easily. He also recognized that the mana was still remaining on the blunt tipped arrow and trying to flow in a serpentine pattern. No sharp turns or drastic changes. It was a cutting and slithering arrow that seemed more like that of a river flowing through the land.

As the mana was captured and Walker suppressed it, the blunt arrow was starting to splinter. It could not handle the mana brought on to it proving that making arrows using mana might be valuable. But also having the right arrows was still a beautiful and complex aspect to modern archery for the elven race.

The power attributed to this attack, despite it being one of the first was clear.

It was a massive advancement using a basic arrow and not perfectly condensing the mana in the style which was still incomplete.

"Now I wonder what you can do when you perfectly finish the style and gather all manas in to one attack. That might be your mastery skill. One that can counter chaotic manas and whatever else is out there trying to hunt in the unknown." Alma said this not to worry Gil, but to tell him she believed in his safety even if he went in to dangerous lands again.

What she had just seen proved to her, not as a leader, but as a family member that Gil would be safe. That he wielded potential to fight beyond her own understanding right this second. That even as he grew, he could do so well beyond her abilities. Allowing him to thrive.

Whether that was also part of the history of the elven survival within those movements or not didn’t so much as matter to her. She had seen what she needed to see and she could tell that both Gil and Walker had just seen a bit more than they expected too.

"I think we have to set up a demonstration." Gil was mumbling this while still looking at his hands and the dispensed memory of the water bow he had just formed.

He’d felt this potential while seeing the condensed earth in the outer elemental planes. He knew that he could achieve this. But his words and his feelings while doing it were different. They were deeper. They screamed at him that he had just fixed something wrong in his perception of arcane archery and of the leven race itself.

"Then we will gather those who can learn and give them a history lesson. Let them help us finish the technique. It won’t be an achievement that you have. It will be one that the entire elven race achieved together with a little help from you." Now Gil saw what Walker was thinking and smirked even wider.

"We will all make it happen and then watch it grow like wildfire."
