Chapter 3054. Train And exchange

Chapter 3054: 3054. Train And exchange

The heavy slam of Midnight’s head hitting Su’s shield was heard through the training ground.

Every single time that this happened, the others training here, guards or adventurers, would hesitate or freeze.

It wasn’t because this sound was abnormal, but because the violence in it sounded more like a real battle than training.

The evidence of this was clearly seen in the fact that several weaker shields that Su used as training were left on the ground broken and like a scrap pile. They had uses but this was not the point here, the strength and materials of the shields were meant to be broken while Su trained so that she could learn about what she was trying to grasp fully.

Midnight on the other hand, had been training her ability to utilize the horns on her head in her dragon form.

She had recently come back with everyone from training and had changed her own perspective on mana usage and condensing it. But she had also remembered some of the techniques that the elder dragons had been using.

Skills and styles that she could not use because she had not even bothered to study them.

Midnight wanted to learn more about it while making it her own. She wanted to be able to use it, teach it, and change it just in the same ways as everyone else in the party did. How else could she show the world that she had so much to offer every generation coming next within Genesis if she couldn’t even use a skill that elder dragons could use?

While this was already something that came as a surprise to Su because she knew that Midnight was already using many skills that the elder dragons needed years to be able to use, she accepted it as a help to her own training. When Midnight mastered this, she would be able to push the training further and Su might find another small bit of success by blocking the next hit.

"The horn wreathing style you are trying to get stronger. That earth mana you gather around your horns is draped there and even feels like a ball of condensed mana to attack with, like when you gather mana in your body to breathe in a dragon breath attack."

To Su, this was how it felt and appeared. But instead, the mana concentrated like an orb within the twin horns Midnight had grown. Yet, when she had seen a fire dragon do it, there was an orb of flames flickering and condensing to be able to wreath their head and body in a cloak of flames.

What Midnight was doing, was using that mana to just coat her head and horns making them entirely perfect to attack the shield. Also to protect her head entirely when being attacked or doing the attacking.

"Your shields are harder and harder to break." The huff was in frustration because Midnight felt like Su was growing more accustomed to the attacks faster than she was understanding the flame wreathing technique entirely.

"I am still breaking the light iron shields though. I can’t get the shield intent and my manas to work together well enough to protect the shield. It is broken because I am not able to use the skills well enough yet." The unhappiness came because Su realized that the toughness of her shields and their quality was yielding a lot more to her usage of the shield intent than what she desired.

She could form a temporary shield with earth mana easily, that was because she had a partner in the earth spirit that could dwell within her. However, she intentionally did not use such connections. She knew she would not grow herself if she did that. She had to rely on her own strength to push yet another step upwards.

"You are condensing the mana well, but you aren’t standing as tall or moving with the same fluid motions that the elder dragons using it can move. Midnight, you are forcing it to happen and not letting it move naturally. It’s like when Walker tries to control the mana in a larger area and realizes that he is putting the elemental spirits in a bad position. You need to feel the flow of nature first. But do that with your own body. Sense it then try it again without any pressure."

Midnight looked at Su and nodded, but she also responded with her own feedback.

"Don’t protect the shield. Protect yourself."

She saw that Su was entirely trying to coast the shield in this intent and her mana. Trying to make the shield last and survive but not worrying about the fact that the shield was just a tool to protect what Su wished to protect.

They both had missed parts of their training that could work and as a result Midnight has used the majority of her mana while Su had broken several shields that were not destined to be used as scrap for the younger blacksmiths to train with.

Several moments later, both had taken what the other said and changed their ideas.

They focused and let mana flow in different ways than in the last couple of hours.

Midnight colored what Walker did and sensed the mana around her before turning her mind toward herself.

She focused on the flow of mana that she would naturally gather within her core to create a fire breath. She focused on the mana within her heart that mixed and balanced. The manas that she could cover her body in to make her scales dangerous and her defenses better. She even felt the mana that would leave her body with every simple breath.

Then she ignited a flame between her horns and felt the mana flowing through them this time. Not being forced out to condense around them.

She pushed herself to keep the focus and calm needed to do this. Not a push to make it happen, a push to hold steady rather than to make it happen regardless of what she was doing at the time.

The sense of pride she felt in her heart was something natural to a dragon. The feeling that she had a more regal appearance while doing this. The fact that she could change the ways that others saw her while she performed this skill and ability.

Su was holding the light iron shield but wasn’t even caring about the weight. Instead, she ignored the weight. She thought of herself within her mind as holding a singular hand out to wield a shield. One of the twin shields.

Yet, she did not see a shield within her mind yet. She saw an empty hand wishing to hold a shield. Wishing that she could protect herself from an incoming ball of flames about to cause herself and all behind her harm.

She willed her mana and her mental strength to be the shield it needed in that situation. She demanded that her very will became that shield so that nothing behind her back could come to harm.

The almost silvery glint that wrapped around the shield was missed by Midnight as the two moved forward and slammed in to one another.

The ball of flames wreathing Midnight’s horns were not flickering, they caressed and strengthened her. They made a dense layer that allowed her to send a wave of fire all around them and spooking a few of the nearby training adventurers and guards.

The slam was not that of a broken shield. It was the dull echo of flames and force halted entirely. The similar sound of a successful block with a shield that knew exactly how to defend what it was protecting. Exactly the right sound.

The flames dissipated and Midnight felt drained. Not in just mana but in her mentality as well.

Su looked at the bits of crumbled iron but the mostly intact shield feeling like she had just run for a day.

Both felt that they had just put strain on themselves in entirely new ways but the right way. Like stretching a muscle that had been dormant for a time. An absolute necessity for them to use that muscle, but enough to show them that they needed to figure out how to train it better.

Those watching without hiding it also understood that they had seen progress.

An interesting challenge blossomed for them too.

Could they also make such breakthroughs? Could they also take the next major steps forward so that they were able to achieve more? Or were they going to remain limited in the ways that they were now?

Su and Midnight slowly began to clean up so they could rest and think about their training. Others doubled their efforts while trying to share what they felt with one another too. They had learned a thing or two from that final exchange.
