Chapter 3055: 3055. Start On A Path

"Onyx, you seem a little quiet?" Walker was a bit worried since he noticed that Onyx had not said a single word in the last few minutes.

Once they had returned to Genesis, Onyx had decided that he would partner up with one of the golem bodies and make his way around with Walker while meditating. He didn’t need to worry about the current situation with his people because he knew they were already doing what they needed to do.

Besides all this, he also had prepared many plans for them so that they could keep growing without his direct input. It was the goal of many leaders to see their people also take on leadership without their need to intervene.

It meant that those people were gaining strength on their own and didn’t necessarily need protection. They could stand alone, each and every single one without worry.

"I was contemplating the ways I can condense my armor skills." Onyx could use light and dark mana to make a scaled armor over his entire body. He’d relied on it in simpler means lately but not as much.

He’d realized that his own body was tempered to be tough enough to hold out better than the skill more times than not.

Enhancing the skill was something that he needed to better work on rather than just understanding the utilization of his dark and light mana.

He had trained his dark and light mana to be able to better use them. Those affinities and the skills and magic he used those manas with had improved. It was why he was able to use the dual light and dark mana armor skills in the first place without it being of too much cost to himself in battle.

Yet, he has been focused on leading his people and working on the skills associated with doing such a thing. He had started to miss the important aspects like condensing his manas and skills in to more potent abilities.

He had seen the armor on the perished body of a monster with the others. He started with Gil to protect Gil while he had his own understanding changed because he wanted to also allow himself the change in perspective.

He was falling behind in some ways while other ways he grew.

The leadership skills and abilities he had were great, he could stand as a representative for his race and more than just that, Genesis. He also has learned how to overcome the emotional and more childish aspects of what he could do or say since he had been able to gain wisdom from more experienced leaders like Scylla.

Yet, that missing link in his overall strength being the skills he used to fight had suffered more due to him not even training them.

He had taught some of the younger serpents and joined the others here and there. He was not weaker because of this, but the others had taken a larger step ahead than he had and it made his scales shiver in unhappiness.

He had been born and learned faster than just about anyone. No one really could compete as a whole.

What he had seen in the earth mana he observed was a density that was unlike any he had seen before.

It was much greater protection than his scales. He knew that at first glance. But he could also feel the aura of something that he would be unable to break without using all of his might.

He rarely used his venom because it had a deep decaying ability. He did not wish to harm and destroy something in that nature. Therefore, the fact that he even believed using his venom would not do enough damage to harm earth armor like he had seen?

That was just hard to accept. It was also enlightening.

Why could his defenses not be like that?

Why could he not have a skill that protected him and others like that?

Why had he stopped growing his defensive abilities at all times?

All these feelings and emotions echoed through him while he meditated in a smaller form on Walker’s golem body, on Walker’s golem body’s shoulders. He had been this way for a couple hours today alone, but the light and dark mana within him was still moving.

Walker had sensed that and could tell that the sheer amount of mana within Onyx’s body had already grown to triple what it had been before. Enough that it was showing Onyx’s ability to store and hold mana had been growing significantly but just wasn’t being used lately.

Beyond this, Walker noticed that Onyx had a much greater control of these stronger and larger amounts of mana. It was startling to realize that even without training these abilities constantly how much better Onyx became at them. He fully believed that Onyx had not fully realized this.

This was also why he’d been moving toward a more open place. He could sense a gut feeling that Onyx would need a little space before he tried to use another skill. The amount of light and dark manas being so great just required a little extra safety measure.

As soon as Walker halted, he felt that Onyx was condensing the larger amounts of manas and letting them bleed through to his scales the same way the dual light and dark armor skills would. He was also doing so in a new way.

The mana didn’t simply wrap Onyx’s body. It was like an oil or a coating becoming a literal piece of him. Not another layer of scales, but an intertwined and controlled aspect that enhanced and expanded who and what Onyx was.

"Brother-"

"Do what you need, I can make sure the area is clear." Onyx glanced around and then continued taking on his full size out of the shadows. He was not holding back as the dense mana expanded and looked more like a secondary body all around him.

It was lacking in shape and it was not balanced. Yet, Walker felt he was watching the form change and grow as Onyx understood what he really needed.

It was better said that Onyx was testing the waters. Experimenting with the feeling of more mana to condense. Learning where the imbalances were and what places he lacked. How to make this skill a full part of himself and not just a cover. Letting the mana he controlled remain more closely attached to his internal flow and external desires.

The shape that Onyx had the skill to take before had been more like his scaled body. It protected him and offered defenses. Like an armor made for him similar to what the wandering blacksmith had done.

But the armor made for his body had also been something he disliked because they did not feel natural.

As the manas condensed, he felt that they were more like what he needed. More like his own body.

They were an extension of himself and the shadows cast around him that grew out only proved the dual manas were perfectly fit.

He would normally house his body in the shadows, but now, he was wreathed in them. A perfect fluid shield that had condensed giving him the appearance of [potent shadow brought from the endless darkness itself.

Flickering light moved around showing sharpened scales, a pointed horned head, and vicious fangs lining his mouth. All extensions of his body in a form he would most likely grow in to once he had fully taken on more traits as a monarch of his race. Showing the fully evolved and fully grown form of his people, but also the full might he could wield when he demanded such to exist.

"Monarch’s shadow form. It needs to be mastered over time. It will take me years." The mana had dissipated and released itself in a wave that Walker easily managed for Onyx.

"So the skill is a summit for your race. You are building and need to master it. Congratulations." He wasn’t saying it because it was an accomplishment, Onyx had taken what he saw and set it as a goal for himself and to bring to his people as well.

It was an example he’d live by for years while he learned more aspects of this skill and how to teach it to others. It might be at a different name or level, but whatever the case, it was uniquely his and would be a massive benefit for the serpents.

"First I need to sleep." Onyx felt the exhaustion immediately. This attempt at a new skill and copying what he had felt drained him entirely. Not just of mana but mentally. The ideas bouncing in his mind could wait until after he’d dreamed.

Walker even found it amusing that Onyx curled up in his full form to sleep there without moving. It was a good chance for him to train some physical styles using weapons while keeping an eye on the little brother he was so proud of.
