Chapter 1293: Outrageous Prices
Chapter 1293: Outrageous Prices
They approached the gate, and the moment they did, the guard at the huge gate fitted into the high Wall stared at the coachman who guided the horse, then shifted his eyes to the insignia on the carriage.
It wasn’t a force he was familiar with, but he wasn’t dumb or stupid enough to suddenly turn arrogant just because he was a guard of the River Of Night Territory gates. He understood that the insignia alone could represent a force far beyond his current understanding.
He knew the Sathor Grand Region contained many hidden powerhouses, and there was no way he would be familiar with all of them. And just because an Eternal Apex was available didn’t mean he would act with pride or stupidity as if he could do anything or make anything inconvenient for anyone. He would be killed on the spot if he did.
He walked towards the carriage as he spoke, "Inspection on head count," he knocked on the carriage handle.
The coachman jumped down and opened the door for him, the guard’s eyes falling on Anthony and the Above disciples, who simply stared at him with a different expression before breaking eye contact.
"Thirteen heads. A million Origin Essence Stones per head, thirteen million total," the guard stated the price, unbothered by the indifference in their expressions, as many people before had even looked down on him with pure arrogance.
The price caused the Above disciples and even Chaos Betroth to be speechless. This was no different from highway robbery. A million per head was literally outrageous on every level, that amount of money wasn’t something any average cultivator had, even the Above disciples didn’t have it.
They all finally understood why an Eternal Apex was deployed. It was to rob people with pure power and those who had no strength to do anything about it. If your Organization had an Eternal Apex, you passed free of charge, anything below, you paid or left. You tried to cause a ruckus, your corpse would be left behind.
Of course Chaos Betroth had it, she had literally spent over a million Origin Essence Stones as energy to fly from the Null Sect to the River Of Night Territory. Yes, she loved wasting money, but no one liked being extorted. Even someone as wealthy as her couldn’t help but feel a little annoyed at having to pay such a ridiculous price simply for entry.
Anthony simply waved his hand as Thought Conception activated, creating twenty million Origin Essence Stones, the heap crashing to the ground like a small mountain as each stone rolled off the other as he spoke.
"That’s twenty million, keep the change," his tone calm.
The guard was unbothered as he took out a device that scanned the stones and showed a perfect twenty million. A bright smile immediately appeared on his face as he gestured forward with a low bow, his entire mood and demeanor changing.
"Welcome to the River Of Night Territory, you are welcome," his tone welcoming.
The coachman closed the door and simply walked back to his horse as he whipped the rope, the carriage rolling forward.
"Tsk... how are weaker forces supposed to pay such outrageous prices?" Hillary asked with a click of his tongue.
Lora Vake replied as she stared through the window, "that has nothing to do with us, we’ve paid and we’ve entered. And besides, this is their own way of eliminating the competition and many other things," her tone indifferent.
’Although someone can just hide other disciples within those space rings that can hold life,’ Anthony mused to himself as he stared at the world beyond.
Nobody was bothered about other forces having the money or not, as only Hillary had wondered about that.
Some of them couldn’t help but imagine just how rich Anthony was. Twenty million was no small amount, and dashing out seven million on top of that was insane to them. But they said nothing, it wasn’t their money.
Soon, they arrived at what seemed like a top-tier Inn, as the carriage rolled to a stop, the coachman opened the door as they alighted one after another. The entire River Of Night Territory was immense to say the least, it was simply too large to be called a city, it was more like a state within a country back on Earth.
Various guards with the River Of Night insignia could be seen walking around as they were in charge of protection. As Anthony glanced in that direction, Lora Vake explained as she didn’t want Anthony to misunderstand.
"These guards you see aren’t here to protect anyone or anybody from another Sect or Organization and whatnot," she began to speak, "they are only here to protect their own locals and people, after all, with the influx of people from various powerhouses, it’s only normal that the locals would be oppressed by arrogant people," she explained ever so calmly, "and if two various forces are fighting, they wouldn’t interfere and only make the side that lost pay for the damages to a local’s shop or a street or whatever was damaged," she explained.
Anthony nodded his head as he perfectly understood. The River Of Night interfering in a fight between two sides might just cause unnecessary trouble for them. So it was best to leave it and make the loser pay in coins or Origin Essence Stones. It was a simple rule, but one that ensured they didn’t become unnecessarily involved in conflicts between outside forces.
Anthony felt it was smart. And if these guards encountered someone they couldn’t defeat, they would just call for someone stronger.
With that, they entered the Inn, with Chaos Betroth in front, Anthony’s eyes trailing everything around them as he took in the place, as everything here seemed to be built for pure luxury and comfort to the point one wouldn’t even notice they were in the Olden times. The entire process was efficient and straightforward, revealing how accustomed the River Of Night was to receiving visitors from powerful forces across the Sathor Grand Region.
He could sense various guards, Formations, Runes and Rune Formations scattered across the entire building, as the building was four floors.
Chaos Betroth passed the reception a card, as she had reserved a room for everybody. And as it was a top-tier Inn, it was naturally expensive, the best room costing as much as fifty Origin Essence Stones per person, the price had been increased due to the gathering of ’tourists’ as the rooms normally cost twenty per night.
Chaos Betroth paid and together they all moved towards the top floor as a porter led them to their rooms, all thirteen rooms on the same floor.
