Chapter 1838: A Decade of Hard Work (1)

"...We just need you to check if the instructions on the final article are correct, Professor."

"Alright."

Nodding at the Scholar in front of her, Veradine looked over the document that was given to her and read through it line by line.

At first, she went over the instructions with a calm expression on her face, inwardly nodding as the words used were more or less precisely what she had said to them.

Though, as she continued reading, she began to notice some lines on the document that made her face scrunch up a bit.

"Change the wording here on the part where the ether transitions into the 7th node," she said as she pointed out what she wanted her colleague to change.

"It’s written here that one should move the ether in a series of waves that grow in amplitude." Closing her eyes for a bit, she tried to recall her understanding on the matter. "Doing so would not only increase the difficulty of practicing it overall, but the quality of the resulting energy would also suffer because of it."

The Scholar slightly paled at those words.

"Then what should we change it to, Professor?"

"The part where it’s mentioned that it’s a series of waves doesn’t need to be changed," replied Veradine, giving her colleague a reassuring gaze. "The part where it says that it increases in amplitude is the problem."

"Although in essence, manipulating ether according to the instructions looks to take that route, it would be more accurate to say that..."

After finding the first mistake on what was seemingly a long list of instructions, Veradine continued to find more and more mistakes with it as time went on.

However, rather than blame the Scholar in front of her or any of her other colleagues for making said mistakes, she instead corrected all of it with a calm yet reassuring expression.

"...And I think that’s all you need to correct." Veradine looked at her colleague, only to then notice that the latter had a guilty expression on her face. "Don’t feel like it’s your fault. It was bound to happen sooner or later."

"But..." The Scholar went silent for a bit. "What we’re doing... what you’re doing will undoubtedly be remembered throughout Thymesion, Professor. The least we could do is make sure the instructions were accurate."

"..."

Remaining silent for a while after that, Veradine eventually concluded her conversation with the Scholar by telling her once again that they were doing a great job.

After making sure that the corrections would be immediately applied, she soon leaned back into her chair as she could not help but let out a faint sigh.

"To think it’s already been 10 years since I’ve entered the path of a Sage," she muttered, briefly recalling the things that had occurred over the past half decade.

After she made up her mind to create a contribution system that revolved around the optimized Basic Ether Gathering Technique, it only took a month or so for the system to be truly implemented within her lab.

By the time the contribution system was fully fleshed out, it was as if the lab had gained a second wind, with everyone in the lab working at least twice, if not three times as hard than before.

With their latest article involving the optimization and modification of various Ether Gathering Techniques reminding the masses of Veradine’s contributions to society, the lab began to work on the new article containing further optimizations to the Basic Ether Gathering Technique.

However, unlike before, where it took them about three years to finish gathering all of the data and information needed for the article, gathering all of the data needed for the new article only took them one and a half years this time around.

Catching the entirety of Thymesion off guard with how fast their newest article was released, the lab returned to optimizing and modifying other Ether Gathering Techniques, writing another article about it according to the principles they’ve learned while working on further optimizations to the Basic Ether Gathering Technique.

And just like the article that came before it, it only took another one and a half years for the lab to complete the necessary data collection, causing a number of Scholars to start wondering why Veradine was publishing articles so quickly all of a sudden.

Was it for the sake of greater fame and reputation?

Was it for the sake of putting pressure on her fellow Scholars?

Or was it for the sake of redirecting everyone’s attention away from something else?

No matter what perspective they had towards the matter, it was no surprise that these same Scholars began to doubt the data contained within Veradine’s articles.

After all, with how fast her lab was pumping out these articles, there surely had to be some areas where they had cut corners, right?

However, after cross-referencing her style of data collection with her past works, as well as obtaining firsthand accounts from those that had visited the lab with the matter in mind, they eventually found out that there was no sign of cutting corners at all.

Her lab was really just that fast.

Spurred on by this discovery, the field of Scholars was seemingly injected with a lot of energy as many Scholars tried to find ways to achieve the same speed of output while maintaining or improving their articles’ level of quality.

Though some had failed in their attempts, a good chunk of Scholars had actually succeeded in speeding up their work flow, increasing the number of articles that were being published to the governing body per year.

Because of their great contribution to the field, as well as their contribution to the entirety of Thymesion through the articles they published, Veradine’s lab was eventually given the Thymesion Laboratory Excellence Award by the Grand Sage, which caused everyone’s Scholar rank within the lab to go up a tier.

Of course, Veradine was included in this, finally allowing her to become a Five-star Scholar.

But because her articles continued to set off massive waves in the field of Sages, the Grand Sage took it upon himself to promote Veradine a step further after that, allowing her to be officially recognized as a Six-star Scholar.

Aside from that, he had also given her an official Scholar title, which put her on a list of Scholars that would be greatly remembered by the entirety of Thymesion in the years to come.

Recognizing the articles she had recently published on Ether Gathering Techniques, as well as the first-ever article that caused her to enter the Grand Sage’s radar in the first place, the Grand Sage decided to give her the title of Origin Refining Great Scholar.

For she was the only Scholar in Thymesion to ever truly improve the foundation of the Sage path, refining what was considered by many to be the origin of their current civilization.
