Chapter 1845: Doubts and Clarifications (2)

The moment he heard the wisp mention that Veradine used to be known as the Ambitious One, Valyr could not help but feel a sense of deja vu.

Staring at the wisp for a bit, the young man wondered why that was the case, having no recollection of the phrase whatsoever.

But as he gave it a bit more thought, he soon realized that it wasn’t that he had no recollection of it.

Instead, he had genuinely heard the phrase before, but had somehow forgotten it.

’But how?’

Frowning as the realization came to mind, the young man began to wrack his brain as he tried to get to the bottom behind the feeling of forgetting something he shouldn’t have forgotten.

Thankfully, it did not take long for him to figure out where he had heard it, causing Valyr to look at the white wisp in front of him once more.

"Was it intentional?" he asked, his expression gradually turning cold.

"Hmm? What is?" asked the wisp back, its tone innocent.

"What I’ve gone through," Valyr clarified, his expression turning colder. "Was it intentional?"

Realizing that the exact place where he heard the phrase before was when Arcane mentioned it to him, the young man had a hunch that everything leading up to the current situation was intentional in a way.

After all, if he remained alone in the Void Core, then there was no way he would have experienced Veradine’s life.

In the most likely scenario, he would have probably spent the decade he could stay in the Void Core improving his comprehension of Shadow Energy and Void Energy.

However, it was exactly because Arcane took notice of what he was doing inside the Void Core that the current situation came about.

Was Arcane’s mention of his actions being related to Veradine’s final wish a lie?

Was their conversation about ’Her’ merely a setup for this exact scenario?

...Was Arcane in on this entire thing from the very start?

Just as Valyr was starting to doubt himself on what he thought was true, the wisp gave off an aura of confusion as it tried to process the former’s words.

"Why the question all of a sudden?" it asked. "How could your experiences earlier be... ah."

At that moment, the wisp finally realized why the young man had asked it that question.

Letting silence envelop them for a bit, the white wisp gathered its thoughts as it tried to find the right words to say.

"You could say that it’s both intentional and unintentional at the same time," it said, the words immediately attracting Valyr’s attention.

"What do you mean by that?"

"By design, one would only be able to experience a snippet of Veradine’s life after meeting three specific criteria." As the wisp said those words, it extended a bit of its energy outwards, molding it to form a hand holding up three fingers.

"The first one is the fact that the person must be within the Void Core," it said, focusing its attention on the young man. "This is the most important criterion the person must meet. If they’re in some place like the Shadow Plane or the Void World, then they’d be ineligible from the start."

"The second is to hear a certain string of words related to Veradine." The wisp removed one of its fingers. "This string of words acts as a key that would allow one to access the experience. However, it’s not fixed. Every so often, the keyword changes."

"It just so happened that the keyword for the experience this time around is none other than the title that describes her the best."

"And for the third criterion..." Removing another finger from the hand it conjured, the wisp paused for a bit as it thought about its next words.

But, in the end, it dispelled the hand it formed as it told Valyr, "The third requirement is something I’ll tell you after I confirm something with you first."

The latter remained silent.

"If you want to know if experiencing Veradine’s life after hearing Arcane say those words was intentional, the answer is yes," said the wisp. "After all, it’s how the entire thing was designed."

Hearing those words, Valyr looked back at the wisp, his eyebrow slightly raised as he realized from its words that it knew of the events that transpired even before he was made to go through Veradine’s life.

Though, before the train of thought could go any further, he soon recalled that the wisp mentioned that it was inside the Void Core the entire time.

With that in mind, everything made sense.

"As for whether or not Arcane had plans of uttering those words to you to trigger it..." The wisp deliberated, keeping the young man in slight suspense.

"Honestly, I don’t know," it said after a while. "With Arcane being a bona fide Primordial, I cannot say for sure if her offhand comment about Veradine’s title was done without purpose."

The latter’s expression slightly darkened at those words.

"However, what can I say for sure was that Arcane did not mean to do it." As the wisp said these words, it split a bit of energy from its body before conjuring an image that allowed Valyr to see events that happened just as he fell unconscious.

The grim expression on Arcane’s face when she finally understood what was going on.

Her look of apology as she left the Void Core and dispelled the mark she left behind.

As the young man watched these events unfold, the dark expression on his face gradually disappeared.

At the same time, a clearer image of how everything unfolded began to form in his mind, giving him a better idea of what was going on.

"...I see." Closing his eyes for a bit as he committed what he saw to memory, Valyr let out a soft exhale as he looked back at the wisp. "So it wasn’t intentional."

"I’d say more coincidental," replied the latter. "After all, the chances of anyone meeting the requirements for the experience is incredibly close to zero. It just so happens that you meet that exact third criterion."

"What is the third criterion anyway?" Valyr asked back. "Does it have anything to do with the Shadow Plane?"

"None whatsoever," said the wisp as it reclaimed the energy it had split off. "Neither does it have anything to do with your current ability."

"Then...?"

"For that, I’ll have to ask you a certain question." The wisp focused its attention back on the young man. "However, it’s up to you if you answer it or not."

"Alright." Wondering what kind of question the wisp could potentially ask him, Valyr eventually nodded in agreement. "What do you want to ask?"

"Well..."

The wisp paused for a bit.

"By any chance, do you perhaps know someone named Azradas?"
