Chapter 1846: Doubts and Clarifications (3)

"Azradas?"

Although Valyr’s eyes briefly narrowed at the name, the young man’s expression quickly returned to normal.

"Who’s that?" he asked, looking at the wisp with complete innocence.

Then, after that, he remained silent, inwardly hoping that the latter wouldn’t try to probe more information out of him.

Naturally, with how he first reacted to the name, it went without saying that the young man knew who Azradas was.

After all, not only did he obtain skills and titles that were related to the man, but he had also even experienced a few snippets of the man’s life in the past.

However, that also brought up another question.

Why did the wisp ask him about Azradas?

No matter how much he thought about it, there was no way Azradas could be connected to the Shadow Plane at all.

Of course, with the man being a Truthseeker, there was always the possibility that the man had come across the plane at some point in his life.

On the other hand, the chances of there being a deep connection between him and the Shadow Plane was pretty low.

Unless...?

Just as Valyr felt his current train of thought head to a different direction, the wisp responded to his earlier words.

"Although it’s not the response I was expecting, we’re at least heading in the right direction," it said, letting out a faint chuckle. "Since that’s the case, let’s proceed."

"Proceed?" Valyr raised his eyebrow in curiosity.

"To the next step," the wisp replied, its tone a bit joyful.

Whoosh!

At that moment, a large mass of dark energy split off from the massive structure before them, its size around ten times as large as the agglomeration that made up the white wisp.

Distancing himself a bit just in case something bad happened, Valyr then watched as the white wisp absorbed all of that energy, causing its form to morph and warp into something that looked more like a human.

A few seconds after that, certain features began to appear on its surface, prompting the young man to wonder what kind of appearance the wisp would take.

Though, by the time the wisp was done with its transformation, the young man’s expression became solemn because he clearly recognized the being that now stood before him.

"Veradine..."

Although there was a couple of discrepancies compared to what he could remember, there was no doubt in Valyr’s mind that the wisp had taken on the form of Veradine.

From the silver hair she had that was in a ponytail, to the comfortable yet serious attire she wore whenever she did research in her lab, the wisp had pretty much recreated every part of her appearance.

Except for the eyes.

Unlike Veradine’s brown eyes in his memories, which were filled with ambition and hope for what was to come, the being’s eyes felt more like gateways into realms that Valyr had no right to explore yet.

"Testing. Testing." After spending some time adjusting to its current form, the wisp turned humanoid tried talking to Valyr. "Can you understand me? How do I sound?"

"Just like Veradine," said the latter after a bit of silence. "A bit unnerving if you’d ask me."

"I can’t really do much about that," replied the being, giving him a wry smile. "I would like to tell you more about why, but let me set up a barrier around us first."

"A barrier?" Valyr asked back in slight confusion. "What for?"

The being didn’t reply.

Instead, it focused on retrieving another chunk of dark energy from the large structure before moving it to spread around the two of them.

Once it was certain that every nook and cranny around them was covered in the dark energy, the being began to control it once more, prompting runes of esoteric origin to appear on its surface.

Whoosh!

The moment the runes on the surface began to glow, Valyr felt as if the space surrounding them had become completely separate from the Void Core, causing his eyes to widen in surprise.

"Phew." After making sure that they were completely cut off from the Void Core, the being let out a sigh of relief as it looked at Valyr. "Although I’ve practiced doing it in my head, doing it in reality is still surprisingly difficult."

"In any case, with the barrier up, I’ve transformed the space around us into a space that’s completely separate from the universe, we can continue with our conversation," it said with a slightly proud smile. "I’m sure you have multiple questions you want to ask me, so I’ll answer some of them right now."

Valyr nodded in understanding.

"First off, I already know that you know who Azradas is," said the being, its expression slightly amused. "Although it might seem like I was unsure when I asked you that question, the moment I heard you mention his name after your consciousness returned, that was enough for me to confirm it."

"Damn." The young man gave the being a wry smile. "You really meant it when you said you were in the Void Core this entire time."

"Gotta have someone keeping an eye on this place just in case someone tries to do something stupid." The being shrugged. "Not you, obviously. What you’re doing is exactly what Veradine was hoping to accomplish before she died."

"Now that you mention it... is that the third requirement?" Being reminded of what he had been doing before he went through Veradine’s life, the young man asked the being with a look of curiosity.

"Good guess, but no." The being shook its head. "Would have definitely been a better requirement than what she originally set, though. If she did, then her wishes would have been fulfilled a long time ago."

"Anyways, I digress," it continued. "You mentioned earlier that my voice sounds like Veradine, right?"

"You look like her too." The young man nodded. "Still unnerving to experience."

"Once again, I can’t really do much about that." The being wryly smiled once more. "After all, I’m pretty much a remnant will left behind by Veradine before her death."

"Remnant will..." At the moment he heard that term, Valyr felt as if the skies in his mind had cleared up, allowing him to finally piece together the small clues he had picked up during their conversation.

"Wait... so when you said you were the most knowledgeable being when it came to Veradine..."

"I was serious," replied the being with a nod. "After all, who would know Veradine best if not something that used to be a core part of her?"

"With that being said, let me properly introduce myself."

The being gave Valyr a slight bow.

"The name’s Zenith. No last name. Came up with it when I thought about how I had been split off from Veradine the exact moment she was at her peak."

"Anyways, I am the Guardian of the Void Core, as well as the archivist of her existence."

"But most importantly..."

"I am the main executor of her final will."
