Chapter 1072 Goddess of Death

Chapter 1072 Goddess of Death

While Shun Long sat alone at the top floor of the White Tiger Chamber of Commerce, waiting for Lin Xu’s return, the incense drifting quietly around him...

...hundreds of thousands of miles away from Iron Dawn, at the north-western city entrance of Blackstone Haven, a scene that would shake any mortal mind was unfolding beneath the dim sky.

A black-haired young woman wearing a veil stood atop the back of a hideous, faceless creature, whose four legs and open mouth brought terror to anyone who saw its image for the very first time. The creature’s claws were half-buried into the cracked earth, its mouth almost smiling as it faced the city walls of Blackstone Haven.

The woman’s veil fluttered gently in the cold wind, revealing only the outline of her flawless chin and a hint of crystalline light behind her abyssal black eyes. But despite being just a peak-stage Dao King, she faced down the entire defensive force of Blackstone Haven’s northwestern city gate by herself.

Dozens of Dao Kings manned the city walls, and in the sky above them was even a rank 2 Dao Emperor realm captain... and yet they just stood there and stared at her.

Her, and her army of more than two thousand Dao King realm skeletons and a hundred undead knights.

The city’s captain, Liang Qingshan’s expression was furious.

A blend of rage and disbelief filled his face as he stared at the army right in front of his doorstep.

Still, at the end of the day, that’s all he could do.

Even though he was a rank 2 Dao Emperor, Liang Qingshan understood the situation he was in. Even with the support of the troops under his command, he wasn’t fully confident taking on two thousand peak-stage Dao Kings.

No sane person would provoke such a force.

No sane person would bring such a force.

Still, looking at the woman who was just standing there, calm, silent, and unbothered, Liang Qingshan couldn’t control the anger welling in his heart.

He gritted his teeth hard enough to make them creak and roared furiously

"I don’t know who you are, you crazy bitch, but you’re making a big mistake. As soon as our reinforcements arrive, you’re dead!"

The Dao Emperor’s eyes flared with rage as he stared at the impudent Dao King who dared to attack the city. What kind of crazy bitch would attack an entire city by herself?

Forget about the city lord and the rest of the Sovereigns, the Blackstone Haven had more than five hundred Dao Emperor realm experts who could take her out effortlessly.

And yet...

Liang Qingshan did not dare make the first move.

Not when two thousand peak Dao King skeletons stood in perfect silence. Not when a hundred undead knights glared at him with those deathly, burning embers in their eye sockets. Not when the hideous four-legged creature beneath her feet was oozing with unconcealed hunger, malice, and endless killing intent.

Even he, as a rank 2 Dao Emperor, wasn’t fully confident in taking on such a colossal army all by himself.

Still, the humiliation burned him.

His authority was being trampled in front of all his men. His dignity was being ground into the dirt by a woman whose cultivation alone should have been nothing more than an ant to him.

If Liu Mei had come alone, Liang Qingshan would have killed her in an instant. But she hadn’t come alone. She had brought death with her.

The veiled woman remained still, her expression hidden behind her veil. She looked almost unbothered.

And yet, surprisingly, after a few long breaths of silence, she finally spoke,

"You are the captain of the northwestern city guard, Liang Qingshan... aren’t you?"

Her voice was soft, melodic, echoing across the battlefield, as if whispered directly into the ears of every cultivator present.

And yet her tone made Liang Qingshan flinch.

He could basically feel the brewing hostility that targeted him.

Then came her next words.

"You," she said quietly, "are the reason I’m here."

A wave of shock rippled along the city wall.

The guards behind Liang Qingshan exchanged uneasy glances. A few gripped their weapons tighter, others widened their eyes, unable to understand how this Dao King, a woman they had never seen or heard of before, could possibly be here for their captain.

Liang Qingshan himself was stunned for a breath, confusion flickering across his features.

"What did you say?" he growled in disbelief.

Liu Mei did not answer immediately. She simply tilted her head slightly, the veil shifting as a faint breeze swept past her. The Death Eater beneath her shifted its weight, releasing a low groan that sent ripples through the ranks of the city guard.

Then she spoke again, her tone carrying a cold edge beneath its softness,

"Vile beasts like you always have bounty on your head. And I’m here to collect."

Her right hand rose slowly at that moment and just pointed at him.

Not the city. Not the guards. Not anyone else.

Just him.

Liang Qingshan’s expression twisted.Anger flared again, but this time layered with something else, a faint, instinctive dread. His muscles tensed, and the aura of a Dao Emperor within him surged like a raging tide.

"A bounty?" he snarled, "You, a mere Dao King, want to take my head?"

But that’s when he stopped.

Because Liu Mei’s next words sliced through the air like frost-covered blades.

"Three years ago," she said, "the Blackstone guard hunted down and slaughtered a group of cultivators traveling to the Northern Plains. A woman among them, the daughter of a merchant was captured alive."

Liang Qingshan’s pupils constricted.

"You tortured her," Liu Mei continued, her voice barely above a whisper, "for two days and two nights."

The city wall fell dead silent.

Even the skeleton army behind her seemed to grow heavier, darker, as if responding to the killing intent rising from her body.

"You paraded her half-dead body in front of your men," she said, "and burned her alive afterward."

A chill swept through the battlefield.

A few guards involuntarily stepped back. Others stared at their captain in horror, unable to hide their reactions.

Liang Qingshan’s face turned ashen.

He opened his mouth, to deny, to defend himself, but no words came out.

Because deep inside his memory, buried beneath layers of forgotten cruelties, a vague recollection flickered... a mission, a captured disciple, her screams echoing in a torch-lit courtyard.

He didn’t know how this woman had come to know of that, but he understood. She was an assassin here to take his life for that incident.

Liu Mei lowered her hand, but the death qi around her surged violently, swirling around her body.

"It’s time for you to pay for your sins."

In the next moment, the two thousand skeletons behind her took one synchronized step forward.

BOOM.

The ground trembled.

The hundred undead knights raised their weapons as one, cold auras flooding outward like a tide of winter death.

Liang Qingshan’s knees nearly buckled.

It was only then that the fiercely proud Dao Emperor finally snapped.

"You dare?!" he roared, veins bulging on his forehead as he stepped forward, the aura of a Dao Emperor exploding around him in a blinding wave.

Liu Mei’s gaze sharpened behind her veil.

In the next instant, the battlefield erupted.
