Chapter 1008 - 1010: Pure Being
Chapter 1008: Chapter 1010: Pure Being
Three of them stood there in borrowed restraint, their true power chained by the laws of the world. Ittorath did not count. He was already fading, his form unstable, his purpose nearly complete. He merely smiled as he looked down at the Ouroboros Coil in his hand.
Then he glared at Paimon.
"This seal... it seems you truly are a priestess of my god. Though you are not blessed with a stigmata."
Paimon did not hold his gaze. Her eyes were fixed on the three figures before them, standing without fear.
Their auras were so deep she could not even begin to comprehend them. The world itself was pressing down on them, forcing their power to the seventh class. Any more and the planet would shatter under their presence alone.
Zhang Dafei looked down at everyone with clear disdain.
"I had forgotten how low the spiritual energy of a lower world is. The filth in the air is just as I remember."
Morticai beat his flaming wings once. His body shifted, the fire condensing until he stood in human form, wreathed in divine flame.
"As expected of this world. The corruption has spread further than before. Nevertheless, this world shall be purified."
Orbitus pointed downward and burst into laughter.
"Do you hear that? He means he will destroy your world. That is what purification means."
The Emperor’s voice was cold.
"There are only three of you. There are many of us. You do not stand a chance."
"So many of you," Morticai replied calmly, "yet I smell only weakness."
"Stop wasting time and deal with them already," Ittorath rasped.
Damon did not move. He did not even dare breathe too loudly. Any being here could erase him without effort. This was the realm of the seventh class.
Before he could fully process what was happening, Zhang Dafei raised his hand and formed a series of hand signs.
A streak of light shot from his mouth.
It struck one of the demon lords square in the forehead.
The demon lord’s body convulsed violently, then began to break apart. Something tore free from his chest. A glowing green soul wrenched itself loose and shot toward the horizon, fleeing at impossible speed.
Just like that, a seventh-class being was defeated.
Zhang Dafei frowned.
"My power is too restricted in this world. His soul managed to escape."
Silence fell across the battlefield.
Orbitus shook his head.
"It cannot be helped. The people of this world are mana-centric. They would not know how to counter a cultivator. You, on the other hand, have fought many magic users. It is not the same."
A demon lord stepped forward, rage distorting his features.
"Enough. Attack them. All at once."
The sky drowned in killing intent.
Auras collided as attacks rained down from every direction. Spells, divine strikes, demonic blasts, elven arts. Each one powerful enough to split mountains and tear space itself.
The three did not even flinch.
Zhang Dafei stroked his chin.
"They are not wrong. Our power is suppressed to their level. They do possess the means to defeat us."
Orbitus smiled and raised his staff.
"Assuming there were many of them left."
As the attacks converged, Morticai lifted his hand.
A massive phoenix form manifested, spreading flaming wings that shielded the three of them. The feathers absorbed every strike, burning, tearing, and regenerating instantly.
Then the wings parted.
Orbitus brought his staff down.
A blinding magic burst outward.
It swallowed the entire battlefield.
When the light faded, most of the sky was empty.
Only those strong enough to endure the spell remained.
Seras.
Paimon.
Three demon lords.
The Elf King Kadelas.
And the Headmaster of the Eldorian Magic Academy.
Seven of them.
Seras stared in horror. She had just watched most of the world’s greatest powers vanish in a single spell.
Orbitus casually lifted a finger to his nose.
"Relax, relax. I did not kill them. It was a teleportation spell. I merely sent them very, very far away. I would have sent them into deep space, but this world is somewhat sealed by that goddess."
When Damon heard that, relief washed through him so suddenly his knees almost gave out.
His grandfather was gone too.
He had feared the worst, feared that he had just watched him die in that flash of light. Knowing he was alive, somewhere far away, was all that mattered for now.
But the odds had just tilted sharply against them.
"Dammit," Damon muttered, tightening his hold around Wendy as she stared wide-eyed at the sky.
Paimon raised her hand and cast a complex magic seal that hovered between them like a diagram of war.
"We have to work together like a party. They may look overwhelming, but they are covering each other’s weaknesses."
She bit her lip, thinking rapidly.
"That flaming bird is their healer. But he also has terrifying offensive power and extreme regeneration. He is effectively immortal. If we attack, he will use his own body to tank the damage."
Her eyes shifted to Orbitus, who looked like a deranged old man enjoying a festival.
"The old man is a mage. His casting speed and knowledge of magic are far beyond ours."
"Hey, girlie, be nice to this old man and I might teach you a thing or two," Orbitus replied cheerfully.
Paimon ignored him and focused on Zhang Dafei.
"That man is strange. He is using power without mana. There is a different energy around him. Actually... all of them have strange energy signatures, except the old man."
"Oi, oi, girlie, not bad. Not bad at all," Orbitus chuckled. "This old man is a wizard, so I use mana mostly. I can use one other type, but I like to stay loyal to mana. The flaming chicken is a pure being that uses aether, though he can use mana if he wants. And he is sort of immortal. If someone like you wanted to kill him, you would need corruption, or be far stronger than him, or destroy his soul. And you definitely do not have that kind of magic."
He laughed loudly, clearly enjoying himself.
"And little Zhang over there is a ki user. He cultivates immortality. That is a whole different problem. He does know a bit about aether too, apparently to counter heart demons or whatever. Cultivators are weird."
Morticai pressed a hand to his temple.
"Why are you explaining our abilities to them?" he asked through gritted teeth.
Orbitus looked offended.
"What? We are going to kill them anyway."
