My Living Shadow System Devours To Make Me Stronger

Chapter 1009 - 1011: The Powers Of Morticai

Chapter 1009: Chapter 1011: The Powers Of Morticai

"Enough talk."

Zhang Dafei’s eyes hardened as he kicked off his flying sword and shot forward like a bolt of light.

A demon lord roared in response and charged to meet him. A gigantic axe manifested in the sky and cleaved downward. The world boomed. Space cracked like glass under the force.

"Do not underestimate the Demon Continent, you invader!"

The demon lord raised his hand, his body swelling into a colossal demonic form as he punched Zhang Dafei mid-air. Zhang tried to raise a barrier, but the punch shattered it and slammed him into the ground hard enough to crater the earth.

Blood spilled from Zhang Dafei’s mouth.

He wiped it with the back of his hand and smiled faintly.

"Moments like this make me wish I learned body cultivation," he muttered.

He raised his hand and pulled out a talisman.

"Demon kin are quite strong everywhere... even here in a lower realm. But I have killed demon kin far beyond you in power."

The moment the talisman appeared, the demon lord felt it.

His magic slowed.

Then the talisman shot forward and stuck to his wrist.

Instantly, his power dropped. His strength. His speed. Everything was cut in half.

"What... is this?"

Zhang Dafei scoffed.

"Have you never seen a demon-suppressing talisman before? These are sold very cheaply at the markets where I’m from."

Before the demon lord could process those words, Zhang vanished.

He reappeared directly in front of him.

The tip of his sword touched the demon lord’s forehead.

And that was the end.

His soul was extinguished.

Just like that, a demon lord died.

Zhang Dafei turned, searching for the others, and saw Morticai soaring high above with Seras and the elf king Kadelas Moonveil locked in a brutal aerial battle. They climbed higher and higher, racing toward the planet’s upper atmosphere.

Zhang Dafei clicked his tongue.

"It seems he is about to use that spell again."

As if summoned by his words, the sky brightened.

Another sun was born overhead.

A blinding, white inferno spread across the heavens above the Demon Continent. Flames stretched for miles. The sea below began to boil. Clouds vanished in seconds.

Damon shut his eyes against the unbearable light.

When he opened them again, the world felt dimmer.

A heavy thud sounded nearby.

He turned and saw Seras crash into the ground beside him and Wendy, her body covered in burnt blood, her breath ragged. Not far away, Kadelas smashed into the ruins of a temple, his aura faint and flickering.

Damon looked back to the battlefield.

Only Paimon was still fighting.

Orbitus had turned the remaining demon lords into animals. One hopped helplessly as a frog. The other flapped uselessly as a chicken.

Damon’s heart clenched.

Morticai descended from the sky in a storm of flames, his wings spreading wide as he moved to finish Seras.

"You have been burned by my immortal flames. Now you mus—"

He stopped mid-sentence.

His gaze shifted.

Not to Damon.

To Wendy.

His feathers twitched around his eyes as if reacting to something instinctive.

"By the great god Obamion... I have found you."

His voice dropped into something cold and reverent.

"Filthy, impure monster... masquerading as one of the chosen."

When Morticai spoke those words, Damon felt Wendy’s hands begin to tremble.

This was not hatred born from knowledge.

Morticai did not know her.

He hated her simply because she existed.

In his eyes, she was not a person. She was an abomination that had taken human form. Something vile. Something that should never have been born.

Seras forced herself upright, leaning heavily on her sword.

"Run... Damon, run," she gasped.

She vanished in a flash of light and reappeared above Morticai, driving her blade straight through him.

He did not dodge.

He allowed the sword to impale him.

Then his massive flaming claws pierced Seras in return, catching her off guard. He kicked her away like a broken doll.

Morticai descended, his body shrinking into a human form marked by a glowing phoenix sigil on his forehead. He walked calmly toward Wendy.

She trembled and hid behind Damon.

They needed to run.

But run where?

Damon could feel it. Space itself was sealed. Teleportation was impossible. And even if they could flee, how could their speed compare to Morticai’s? The phoenix could move at the speed of light. Damon’s best speed was barely below the speed of sound.

He raised his hand. Shadows roared forward like a flood, slamming into Morticai as Damon grabbed Wendy’s hand and tried to flee.

Then he felt it.

Weightlessness.

Damon turned.

His arm was gone.

The hand still clutching Wendy’s wrist remained attached to her, fingers locked tight as blood sprayed from the stump of his shoulder.

He stared in horror as Morticai walked forward with a cold, expressionless face.

"I despise the impure that break the balance. But more than that, I despise those who protect them."

His eyes bore into Damon.

"I will let you live if you renounce this abomination and slay her. You are touched by a true god. As great as Lord Obamion. You can still find salvation. I am a pure being, I can not abide the uncleam"

Damon gasped and looked at Wendy.

She shook her head.

Not to refuse.

But urging him to accept.

For once, she was begging him not to be stubborn. Not to be proud. At least one of them needed to live.

Damon stepped forward and looked Morticai in the eyes.

"Screw you."

Morticai’s face did not change.

"Then die."

One of his feathers detached, transforming into a blazing blade as it shot toward Damon.

Before it could hit, someone shoved Damon aside.

Morticai’s gaze shifted to Wendy.

"Eager to die, huh?"

He stepped forward.

Damon did not even see the moment the feather pierced her. He only heard the sickening crack of her spine as she was launched backward into the rubble.

"Wendy!!!"

Morticai raised his hand to finish Damon—

A streak of silver light tore across the battlefield.

Kadelas burst from the rubble.

"I’m not dead yet!"

He slammed into Morticai, and the two crashed into a storm of dust and fire.

Damon crawled to Wendy, pulling out the highest-tier potion he had. He poured it into her mouth.

Nothing happened.

His eyes widened. He pulled out more, pouring them frantically.

Still nothing.

Then her hand rose weakly and stopped him.

She shook her head.

Blood filled her lips.

She smiled at him as the world around Damon began to blur.

Her trembling hand reached for his face.

"Are... you crying?"

Only then did Damon realize the heat on his cheeks and the blur in his vision were his own tears.
