Chapter 274: Holy Snow Clan’s Problem
Chapter 274: Holy Snow Clan’s Problem
Richard couldn’t deny how difficult it was to make progress in the Lord Realm, as it required breaking through limits.
He stepped onto the layer of ice above the river. It was thick enough to be used as a crossing, and in fact, many horse-drawn carriages were passing over it.
"Come on, come on... Young Lord Gray from the Order of the Peak World is coming to the Holy Snow Clan to propose to Miss Holysnow. I heard he’s very handsome—this will be a beautiful union."
Several young girls on horseback hurried across the frozen surface toward the city on the other side.
Richard was quite surprised to hear their conversation, as it mentioned his old friend, Gray, who now seemed to hold a prestigious title.
And Miss Holysnow—she should be Elise.
’Hasn’t it already been seven years? Why is he only proposing now?’ Richard was somewhat confused.
After all, Gray had been pursuing that woman for a long time.
Then what about Laura, who had been with him since the beginning?
Was he now capable of asking her permission to marry someone else?
Since this was indeed the Central Region, Richard walked toward the city the girls were heading to.
He only needed two steps before appearing in front of the city, entering it.
The city had something interesting—there were many roadside stalls selling roasted meat and beer.
Everyone seemed to enjoy drinking, yet they didn’t look like the type to get drunk easily.
For some reason, Richard was drawn to the roasted meat. He sat at one of the stalls and ordered a portion.
The owner prepared it quickly and even gave him a large mug of beer as a bonus.
As he ate, Richard had to admit the taste was excellent—perfect for this extremely cold environment.
"Boy, don’t you want to see Young Lord Gray’s proposal to Miss Holysnow?" the stall owner asked. He was a burly middle-aged man wearing a clean white robe.
"Is it that interesting?" Richard asked with a strange expression.
"It’s quite interesting, actually. Those who know nothing think they’ll witness a destined couple. But some just want to see the drama, hehe..."
"Drama? Why would there be drama?" Richard was puzzled.
"Seems like you don’t know..." The stall owner chuckled and leaned closer.
"Miss Holysnow actually ran away—she rejected the proposal. But her clan accepted it because of the bride price offered by the Order of the Peak World," he whispered.
Richard rolled his eyes after hearing that.
It seemed Gray had become even more prominent over the past seven years—so much so that the Order of the Peak World was helping him secure a wife from a powerful clan.
Were they also trying to gather support for the World Magic Aether?
The question was—could Gray compete with top-tier geniuses like the Dark Abyss Young Master or Sean Thundervale?
Had he really grown that much in seven years?
"Why did Miss Holysnow run away?" Richard asked.
This was certainly an interesting drama. Something must have changed.
After all, the last time he saw them together, Elise had clearly been receptive to Gray’s advances.
So why was Gray still proposing?
Was he being forced by his faction?
Or was he shamelessly trying to force a woman who didn’t want him?
"Young Lord Gray is a playboy. He already has more than four lovers. All of them are fairly well-known young ladies, though not as famous as Miss Holysnow. He somehow always wants more. Some people say he cultivates a Codex that allows him to absorb power from women when he sleeps with them. Although Miss Holysnow was once close to him, she refused to let herself be used," the stall owner explained.
Richard frowned upon hearing that.
So such a thing existed—and Gray was using it.
"What kind of power does he absorb?" Richard asked, somewhat confused.
"All kinds, of course—like taking their cultivation results or even their talent."
"What? That’s ridiculous. No wonder Miss Holysnow refused. But why did her clan agree? Have they gone mad?"
This was also a matter of morality. No matter what kind of bride price was offered, a prestigious clan shouldn’t sell off its descendants—especially since Elise was a direct lineage member.
Were they afraid to refuse?
Richard didn’t think so, considering the power of the Ice Ancestor.
Even if the Order of the Peak World was strong—a faction that had produced two Grand Sovereigns—the Ice Ancestor shouldn’t need to fear them.
Who knew whether their ancestors were even as strong as the Ice Ancestor?
Producing two Grand Sovereigns didn’t necessarily mean their ancestors were stronger.
"The Holy Snow Clan is facing some problems. Their Grand Ancestor, the Ice Ancestor, disappeared after fighting the Sword Master from the Order of the Heaven Emperor. No one knows where he is. Because of that, the clan is now controlled by their Second Ancestor, the Snow Ancestor, who has his own ambitions. The Snow Ancestor is a newly advanced Ancient Sovereign—and even a follower of the Demon Flame Grand Sovereign."
"Oh? Then why did the Ice Ancestor fight the Sword Master?" Richard asked.
To him, it felt like only yesterday since he last saw the Sword Master, so he knew well how terrifying his strength was.
"It seems the Sword Master wanted the Heavenly Wind Spirit possessed by the Ice Ancestor. It’s said that it can increase Wind Element affinity—even directly raising it above 85%."
"Wind element..."
Richard showed a strange expression upon hearing that.
He recalled what Sophia Whitewater had once told him—about a clan willing to give him something that could increase his Wind Element affinity, on the condition that he marry a woman from their clan.
At this point, it was hard not to suspect that it was the Holy Snow Clan.
Richard continued eating and drinking the beer to warm himself, occasionally glancing at the ice fortress in the center of the city, which even had a massive glass dome.
That seemed to be the residence of the Holy Snow Clan.
