Chapter 327: That is a Heart
Chapter 327: That is a Heart
"To open the gate to the Spirit Ruler World, you need to combine the two keys and add the blood of a Peak Lord from the Spirit race. Let’s return to the palace first," the Fire Spirit Queen replied.
"Why does it require the blood of a Spirit?" Richard asked, confused.
If that was the case, it sounded like a place that did not welcome other races.
"Basically, it was created specifically for the Spirits. It is a naturally formed Hidden World that absorbs the wills of countless Peak Lords throughout the Land of Spirit. The combined wills are what help someone break through their limits. I relied on it myself in the past. Although it is specifically meant for Spirits, other races can still enter with the help of an artifact that disguises them as Spirits."
"Ohhh..." Richard nodded after hearing the Queen’s explanation.
The two of them soon arrived at the palace courtyard.
The gazes of the elders and soldiers concealed all sorts of thoughts as they looked at their beautiful and graceful Queen—the untouchable Queen in their eyes who now seemed to have become this human man’s woman.
The ring on her ring finger was clearly not just an ornament, and it was obvious that the two of them had spent a wonderful night together.
The Fire Spirit Queen felt somewhat uncomfortable under the way the Fire Spirits were looking at her.
She kept forcing herself to remain calm.
"Damian..." she called her nephew, who quickly approached them.
Unlike the others, Damian acted as though nothing unusual had happened.
"Aunt..." He gave her a brief bow.
"Give Richard a few drops of your blood," the Queen ordered.
"Yes..." Damian nodded.
He had already guessed this would happen.
"Sir Richard, this is my blood..." He casually tore open the tip of his finger. A drop of blood fell, only to float in the air instead of continuing downward.
It stopped right in front of Richard, suspended there.
"Use this necklace." The Fire Spirit Queen handed him a necklace with a small fireball pendant.
Richard accepted it with a smile and put it around his neck.
A look of surprise immediately appeared on his face.
He could feel himself beginning to change.
A pair of translucent red wings appeared on his back, and he could even move them.
He also realized that his black hair had turned red, just like the hair of the Fire Spirits.
Even his aura had taken on the unique characteristics of a Fire Spirit.
"How magical," he muttered.
"Now you can begin," the Fire Spirit Queen said.
Richard nodded and brought the two transparent keys together.
The moment they touched, they immediately fused into a single, more substantial key.
A small hole appeared in the center.
Before Richard could even do anything, Damian’s blood was sucked into the hole.
Buzz!
Light seemingly came from nowhere, gathering directly in front of Richard.
Within the radiance, a gate about five meters tall appeared, emanating an aura filled with immense willpower.
"Is this the gate?" The young Fire Spirits were astonished.
It was their first time seeing it, and they had never even dared to dream of entering it.
The two keys only appeared once every fifty years at random locations throughout the Land of Spirit.
Obtaining just one of them meant nothing. Both were required.
The hardest part was naturally keeping them from being stolen.
The key was absorbed by the gate, which slowly opened, revealing a swirling portal of light.
"Go in!" the Fire Spirit Queen said, her expression reassuring, though Richard could still see a trace of vigilance on her face.
"Yes..." Richard nodded with a smile.
(’Boy, this is my heart...’)
As Richard stepped inside, a voice echoed through his mind.
Who else could it be but the strange skeleton residing in the Dragon Hall?
(’Are you serious?’)
Richard was stunned.
The skeleton’s heart?
How was that possible?
The skeleton did not respond, leaving Richard with no idea what it intended to do.
The moment he passed through the portal, he found himself in a space filled with streams of light, each one radiating an immense will.
Some of them seemed to take the form of human figures, their gazes seemingly determined to break through their own limits.
Their fists were tightly clenched.
Richard could truly feel countless wills gathered here.
Behind those streams of light, he realized there was a wall.
This was not an endless space.
And the wall he saw gave him the impression of flesh, despite being white in color.
(’Hmph. Someone was actually bold enough to turn my heart into a place for cultivation.’)
The skeleton finally spoke again, its tone clearly filled with displeasure.
Things were evidently not as the Fire Spirit Queen had described.
Of course, what she had said most likely followed the information recorded in ancient records. No one knew that in the distant past, a powerful figure—most likely a Grand Sovereign—had refined the skeleton’s heart into the Spirit Ruler World.
For that to be possible, the skeleton’s heart clearly possessed some unique properties.
(’By the way, can it absorb the wills of Rulers as well, or is it limited to Lords?’)
(’Hmph, boy, what are you talking about? My heart can even absorb the will of a Grand Sovereign until they lose their will entirely. It’s just that the person who refined my heart didn’t have the ability to unleash more of its power.’)
The skeleton became even more displeased upon hearing Richard’s question.
(’Boy, are you thinking of borrowing it to cultivate? Don’t even think about it unless you don’t care about the consequences. You could end up lacking willpower and struggling to cultivate in the future. You should know that the realm above places tremendous importance on willpower.’)
The skeleton easily guessed what Richard was thinking.
Borrowing the willpower of others to break through one’s limits.
Richard could still rely on it in the Ruler Realm, where making even the slightest progress was practically more difficult.
But the consequences would naturally weaken his own willpower.
Eventually, at a level where one had to rely on themselves and possess immense willpower, advancing would become extremely difficult.
It was like a poor person suddenly receiving an enormous fortune. They would practically have no idea how to use such wealth properly.
Richard, however, was different from the beginning.
He simply lacked the necessary ability.
His growth in strength depended on the System.
Compared to other people, his willpower was also much weaker.
If he had to rely solely on his willpower, advancing through the Lord Realm would be difficult for him. Fortunately, he could still make progress through battles, certain extremely rare resources, or an exceptionally strong sense of inner fulfillment.
The same applied to the Ruler Realm.
If willpower played the most important role in the higher realms, then relying too heavily on external assistance would indeed become a problem.
And that was destined to become a problem for Richard if the System were ever to disappear.
As long as he had the System, why worry?
Richard simply smiled.
(’Are you going to absorb your heart? Please wait until I’ve broken through first.’)
He said it without rushing to discuss the matter further.
(’Hurry up. Of course I have to absorb my heart.’)
The skeleton replied impatiently.
