Chapter 1229: Undercurrents 1
Chapter 1229: Undercurrents 1
While I remained within the Origin Expanse, completely immersed in my comprehension of the Origins, something very different was happening far away in the Prime Galaxy.
Deep within a hidden region of the Prime Galaxy, three figures sat around a circular table. None of them were physically present.
What appeared around the table were merely projections created through their respective Authorities, and even those projections had been deliberately obscured. Their bodies could be seen clearly enough, but their faces remained covered by a strange blur that prevented their identities from being recognized.
The figure sitting at the head of the table was the most imposing of the three. He wore a long gray robe, and the space around his projection constantly fluctuated as faint traces of Time moved through it. He was the Sovereign Eternal Time, a Middle Demi-God whose comprehension of the Origin of Time was far beyond that of the other two.
His position within the group was obvious even without anyone acknowledging it, as the other two naturally waited for him to speak before making their own decisions.
To his right sat the Sovereign Abyssal Darkness. His projection was shrouded in an endless darkness that seemed to absorb even the faint light around it.
No features could be seen beneath the blur covering his face, and only a pair of dim, almost imperceptible eyes could occasionally be sensed within the darkness. His Darkness Authority allowed him to manipulate the profound darkness that existed beneath ordinary shadows, making him exceptionally difficult to perceive, track or restrain.
On the opposite side sat the Sovereign Annihilating Lightning. Faint arcs of black-violet lightning continuously flickered around his projection, but unlike ordinary lightning, they made no sound.
Wherever the lightning passed, even the surrounding energy seemed to disappear, as though it had been erased rather than destroyed. His Authority was built around annihilation through lightning, allowing him to reduce both physical matter and energy-based manifestations to nothing.
Both were powerful Demi-Gods of the Prime Universe, yet they had long since abandoned their allegiance to it. They had chosen to stand with the Eternals, believing that survival and greater power were worth more than remaining loyal to a universe that was already losing its war.
The meeting had been called because of a single piece of information.
Amun’s announcement.
"The meeting is today," the Sovereign Abyssal Darkness finally said, his voice low and cautious. "Amun is going to introduce the new Demi-God he mentioned six months ago. Have we already relayed the information to the Eternals?"
"We have," replied the Sovereign Eternal Time. His voice remained calm, and there was not even a trace of concern in it. "I personally passed the information to them."
The Sovereign Annihilating Lightning leaned slightly forward. "And did they respond?"
"They did."
The other two immediately became more attentive.
"What did they say? Did you ask who it is?"
The Sovereign Eternal Time remained silent for a moment before answering, "They are already aware of it. And they know who it is."
The Sovereign Abyssal Darkness frowned beneath the blur covering his face. "And?"
"It is Billion Ironhart."
The atmosphere around the table immediately changed.
Even though they were only projections, both of the other Sovereigns reacted instinctively. The Sovereign Annihilating Lightning leaned back, while the gray mist surrounding the Sovereign Abyssal Darkness became momentarily unstable.
"Billion Ironhart?" the latter repeated in disbelief. "The same Billion Ironhart who only recently became a Saint?"
"Yes."
"How is that possible?" the Sovereign Annihilating Lightning asked. "He had only recently entered the Saint realm. Even with the rate at which he was growing, becoming a Demi-God this quickly should be impossible."
The Sovereign Eternal Time remained completely composed.
"There is no need to be surprised."
His words immediately settled the others.
"Billion may have extraordinary talent, but he is still a newly ascended Demi-God. He has only just crossed the boundary between Saint and Demi-God. His Authority will be weak, his understanding of Origin will be shallow, and he will need an enormous amount of time before he can become a true threat on the battlefield."
The Sovereign Abyssal Darkness considered his words before slowly nodding.
"That is true. A newly ascended Demi-God cannot compare with those who have spent thousands of years refining their Authorities."
"Exactly," said the Sovereign Eternal Time. "His sudden breakthrough changes very little."
The Sovereign Annihilating Lightning remained silent for a while before asking, "Are you certain?"
The Time Sovereign’s blurred face turned toward him.
"I have already received information regarding the next offensive."
Both Sovereigns immediately became serious.
"The Eternals are preparing another major attack?"
"Yes. They are still reorganizing their forces, but the next offensive will be much larger than the previous ones. The earliest estimate is five hundred years from now. At most, it should take them a thousand years."
The Sovereign Abyssal Darkness’s fingers tapped lightly against the table.
"How many?"
"More Demi-Gods than they have committed to the battlefield so far."
The room fell silent.
The Sovereign Annihilating Lightning finally spoke. "Then the Prime Universe is finished."
"It was already heading toward that outcome," the Sovereign Eternal Time replied calmly. "This offensive will simply accelerate it."
There was no sadness in his voice.
No hesitation.
The three of them had once stood on the same side as the other cultivators of the Prime Universe. They had once fought against the Eternals and watched countless companions die. But somewhere along the way, their priorities had changed.
They had realized that the Prime Universe was losing.
And instead of dying with it, they had chosen to survive.
"It was the correct decision to contact the Eternals," the Sovereign Abyssal Darkness said after a moment. "There is no reason for us to remain on a sinking ship simply because we were born here. The Prime Universe has already lost three Demi-Gods, while the Eternals have not lost a single one of their own. Their forces are several times larger than ours, and they control resources from the universes they have already conquered."
His voice became increasingly firm as he spoke.
"We cannot win this war."
The Sovereign Annihilating Lightning gave a quiet laugh. "And even if we somehow could, what would we gain? We would spend countless years fighting, watching our allies die, only to remain trapped at the same cultivation level. The Eternals have far more resources, far more territory and far more opportunities. If we join them, we have a chance to advance further."
