Chapter 1230: Undercurrents 2

"That is exactly what I thought," said the Sovereign Abyssal Darkness. "I did not cultivate for countless years just to die defending a universe that cannot survive."

The Sovereign Eternal Time listened without interrupting.

He understood their reasoning because he shared it. Power was the only thing that mattered in the end.

The Prime Universe had given them birth, but birth did not create an obligation to die alongside it.

"The Eternals have already promised us resources after the war," the Time Sovereign said. "If the Prime Universe falls, they will control everything that remains. As long as we prove our usefulness, our positions will be secure."

The Sovereign Annihilating Lightning nodded. "Then there is even less reason to worry about Billion Ironhart."

"Not yet," the Time Sovereign replied.

His tone changed slightly. The other two immediately noticed.

"You think the Eternals will order us to kill him?"

"I think they will."

The Sovereign Abyssal Darkness leaned forward.

"Why?"

"Because they have no reason to allow a potential threat to grow."

The Time Sovereign’s projection remained completely still as he continued. "Billion is already advancing at a rate that should not be possible. If he survives for several thousand years, his threat level will naturally increase. The Eternals understand this better than anyone. They have already conquered multiple universes. They know that allowing a talented Demi-God to mature is one of the greatest mistakes an enemy can make."

"So they will want him eliminated immediately?"

"Yes."

The Sovereign Annihilating Lightning’s voice carried a hint of excitement. "Then perhaps we will receive the order soon."

"I believe so."

The Time Sovereign paused before adding, "However, the Eternals are currently occupied with something else."

"The Phantom and Abomination forces?"

"Yes. Their curse has been lifted, and they are currently pulling those forces back from the various regions of the Prime Universe. Their priority is recovering as many of those forces as possible before they are destroyed."

The Sovereign Abyssal Darkness smiled faintly.

"And we are helping them."

The three projections exchanged glances.

Throughout the Prime Universe, the territories controlled by these traitors had already begun receiving instructions. Their forces appeared to be launching attacks against the Eternals exactly as Amun and the other leaders expected, but the reality was very different.

They were holding back.

Whenever an opportunity appeared to inflict a decisive blow, they deliberately slowed their response. When an Eternal force attempted to withdraw, they allowed it more time than necessary. When they could destroy a retreating force, they deliberately chose less efficient attacks.

To everyone watching from outside, it looked like ordinary battlefield hesitation.

In reality, it was deliberate cooperation.

"We have to continue doing this carefully," the Sovereign Annihilating Lightning said. "We cannot make it obvious that we are allowing the Eternals to retreat."

"I know," replied the Sovereign Eternal Time. "Our forces must continue attacking, but never with enough strength to prevent the Eternals from completing their withdrawal."

"And we must make certain Amun does not notice," added the Sovereign Abyssal Darkness.

The Time Sovereign nodded.

"Amun is dangerous. So is the System. And Defender Aurora is even more troublesome. None of them can discover what we are doing."

The Sovereign Annihilating Lightning gave a quiet chuckle.

"Do you really think Amun will notice?"

"He might have. He is far too mysterious for us to comment on."

The answer immediately removed the amusement from the other man’s voice.

"We have survived this long because we have been careful. We will not ruin everything now."

The three fell silent again.

Outside their hidden meeting place, the Prime Universe continued moving toward the next stage of the war. Armies fought across countless regions, Saints clashed with Saints, and the forces of the Eternals slowly withdrew from the territories they no longer needed.

The Sovereign of Abyssal Darkness and the Sovereign of Annihilating Lightning exchanged a brief glance before turning their attention back toward the Sovereign Eternal Time. Both of them had remained relatively quiet throughout the discussion, but there was one matter they had been waiting for him to address.

The Sovereign of Annihilating Lightning finally spoke, his voice carrying a hint of impatience. "What about the request we made regarding the resources needed for our advancement? You said you would relay it to the Eternals."

The Sovereign of Abyssal Darkness also leaned slightly forward. "Yes. We have remained at the Low Demi-God Realm for far too long. If the Eternals truly intend to have us stand against our former allies, then they should at least provide us with the resources necessary to progress."

The Sovereign Eternal Time did not answer immediately. His blurred face remained directed toward them, and for several seconds, the chamber was silent. Then he finally nodded.

"I relayed both of your requests."

The two Low Demi-Gods immediately focused on him.

"And?" the Sovereign of Annihilating Lightning asked.

"The Eternals have agreed to provide the resources," the Sovereign Eternal Time said calmly. "But they have placed a condition on the reward."

A strange anticipation appeared in the eyes of the other two.

"What condition?" the Sovereign of Abyssal Darkness asked.

The Sovereign Eternal Time’s voice remained completely steady as he delivered the answer. "Kill one of the Prime Universe’s Demi-Gods."

For a moment, neither of the other two spoke.

Even through their blurred projections, their shock was obvious.

"If either of you succeeds in killing a Demi-God from the Prime Universe, the Eternals will reward you with one Low-Grade Origin Fruit," the Sovereign Eternal Time continued. "They will also provide you with Origin Dew refined from the Origin Expanse of the Eternal Universe."

The atmosphere immediately changed.

The Sovereign of Abyssal Darkness’s eyes widened slightly, while the black-violet lightning surrounding the Sovereign of Annihilating Lightning flickered violently for a moment before he suppressed it.

A Low-Grade Origin Fruit was already an extraordinary treasure for a Low Demi-God. It could greatly improve one’s understanding and resonance with an Origin, potentially saving countless years of comprehension. But the Origin Dew refined from the Eternal Universe’s Origin Expanse was even more valuable. It was something they had only heard about through rumors and had never expected to obtain so easily.

Excitement briefly filled both their projections.

Yet they quickly suppressed it.

They understood that killing a Demi-God was not something that could be treated lightly. Even a Low Demi-God could possess powerful Authority, and if they were careless, the one being hunted could easily become the hunter.

The Sovereign of Annihilating Lightning was the first to speak again. "Then we need your help."

The Sovereign of Abyssal Darkness nodded. "You are a Middle Demi-God, and you understand the battlefield better than either of us. If we are going to accomplish this, we need you to help us choose the target and create the opportunity."

The Sovereign Eternal Time remained silent.

His projection sat motionless for several breaths as he considered their request. Killing one of Prime Universe’s Demi-Gods would not be easy, and more importantly, doing so without exposing their betrayal would require careful planning.

Finally, he spoke.

"Let us finish today’s meeting first."

He paused, his blurred gaze moving between the two Low Demi-Gods.

"Afterward, we will meet again and plan everything carefully. We will decide who the target should be, how we will isolate them, and how we can make sure no one discovers what we are doing."

The other two immediately nodded.

"Agreed."

"Then we will wait for your arrangements."

The Sovereign Eternal Time gave a final nod.

With that, the three projections flickered and vanished. Each of them heading to meet this newly ascended demi god.
