Chapter 1244: Frozen Sacrifice
Chapter 1244: Frozen Sacrifice
Space twisted around me, and I flashed forward once again, appearing in front of the Eternal.
He was already struggling to breathe, his chest rising and falling heavily as golden Soul Force circulated through his body, desperately repairing the damage I had caused. The moment he saw me appear before him, his expression hardened.
He gritted his teeth and thrust both palms forward. A wave of freezing energy erupted from his body.
The surrounding void instantly began to freeze, layers of pale blue ice spreading outward as an unbearable chill seeped through the battlefield. Before I could reach him, I noticed something strange.
His legs began to freeze.
The ice climbed upward from his feet, covering both legs completely before they suddenly shattered into countless drifting particles. At the same time, his voice echoed through the frozen void.
"Frozen Sacrifice: Eternal Pause."
A tiny sphere of pale blue light appeared between his palms. It expanded almost silently. In the blink of an eye, the light engulfed me.
The moment it touched my body, an intense cold spread from the deepest part of my existence. It was not merely freezing my body. The attack was reaching into the very foundation of my existence, locking everything in place.
My movements stopped. My Soul Force stopped.
Even the surrounding Space seemed to become completely motionless.
My eyes narrowed slightly.
I understood.
He had sacrificed his own legs to unleash an attack capable of freezing both Space and Time. And just as I reached that realization, the Space behind me rippled again.
This time, there was no attempt to hide the disturbance. A figure slowly stepped out from the darkness.
His entire body was covered by a thick black cloak, with his face completely concealed beneath its hood. The moment he entered the battlefield, darkness spread outward from him like an endless tide, swallowing the surrounding light and covering the frozen void in deeper shadows.
I already knew who he was.
He could conceal his physical appearance. But he could not hide the aura of his Authority from me.
The darkness surrounding him carried a familiar and unmistakable Origin.
Sovereign Abyssal Darkness.
The traitor had finally revealed himself.
For a moment, neither of them moved.
Then Sovereign Abyssal Darkness turned his head toward the Eternal, and the tension that had been hanging over the battlefield seemed to ease slightly. The Eternal released a long breath, his shoulders finally relaxing now that reinforcements had arrived.
"You came," he said.
"Of course," Darkness replied calmly. His gaze shifted downward, landing on the place where both of the Eternal’s legs had been sacrificed. "Are you going to be all right?"
The Eternal looked down at the empty space where his legs should have been before giving a bitter laugh.
"I will survive, but it will take at least a year before I fully recover from this. The sacrifice damaged more than my physical body. Reconstructing what was lost will take time."
Darkness remained silent for a moment before looking toward me. Neither of them seemed particularly concerned.
They were speaking as if I were already dead.
The Eternal slowly shook his head. "This human turned out to be far more troublesome than we expected. His combat ability is completely different from what the information suggested."
Darkness’s eyes narrowed beneath his hood.
"I noticed."
"His comprehension of Fire is higher than mine," the Eternal continued. "Your information did not contain anything about that."
"There wasn’t enough information to begin with," Darkness replied. His voice remained calm, almost indifferent. "He had only just ascended to the Demi-God realm. How were we supposed to know that he had already progressed this far?"
The Eternal’s expression darkened.
"He has also reached Grade Two Soul Force."
That made Darkness pause.
"Grade Two?"
"Yes."
The Eternal looked toward me, his eyes filled with a mixture of caution and irritation. "I was expecting a newly ascended Demi-God. Someone whose Authority had only recently taken shape. Instead, his Fire Origin comprehension is already higher than mine, and his Soul Force has undergone a transformation as well. If I had known this beforehand, I would never have fought him alone."
Darkness stared at me for several seconds. Then the darkness surrounding his body began to fluctuate.
"We have delayed long enough."
His voice became colder.
"Let’s end this."
He slowly raised one hand. The darkness around his palm began to converge.
At first, it looked like nothing more than a small distortion in the void, but as more and more Darkness Origin gathered, the distortion rapidly took shape. A sword began to form within his grasp.
There was no blade. Only darkness.
A rough outline resembling a sword existed within his hand, its shape barely visible against the surrounding void, but the fluctuations radiating from it were terrifying. Every ripple of Darkness Origin seemed capable of tearing apart the very fabric of existence.
The Eternal watched silently.
Darkness tightened his grip. Then he flashed in front of me. The moment his foot landed, the surrounding darkness surged behind him.
His body crossed the distance between us in an instant.
The sword rose. Then he thrust it directly toward my heart.
The tip approached my chest with terrifying speed.
Ten inches.
Five inches.
One inch.
Then—
Freeze.
The sword stopped.
It halted less than an inch from my chest. Darkness’s body froze along with it.
The darkness forming the sword continued to fluctuate violently, trying to push forward, but it could not move even a fraction farther.
The Eternal’s expression changed. Darkness slowly raised his head. I slowly turned my eyes toward the dark blade hovering beside my chest.
Then I looked at the hooded figure holding it.
A faint smile appeared on my face.
"I don’t understand why Amun hadn’t killed you before."
My voice carried calmly through the frozen void.
I looked directly at Sovereign Abyssal Darkness.
"For a traitor, you’re really weak."
The Eternal’s eyes widened. Darkness’s entire body stiffened.
Neither of them had expected me to speak.
And judging from their expressions, neither of them had expected me to be completely unaffected by the attack.
