Chapter 1289: Helplessness

Chapter 1289: Helplessness

Amun seemed to recognize the direction of my thoughts, because he continued before I could voice them.

"There is another measure we need to take, one that may give us the strength required to challenge the Eternal forces. We need to open the Origin Expanse to every High Saint and above in the Prime Universe, allowing them to enter and improve their comprehension of the Origins as much as possible before the war begins."

That suggestion immediately caught my attention. The Origin Expanse was one of the few places where a being could encounter the most fundamental Essence of an Origin and develop an understanding that ordinary cultivation could never provide.

My own experience there had transformed my power, allowing me to reach ninety percent resonance with forty-nine Origins, and although I had failed to cross the final boundary, the improvement in my strength had been extraordinary.

"Opening the Origin Expanse to so many people will not be simple," I said. "The Essence within those dimensions is limited, and the stronger the beings who enter, the greater the strain they may place on the environment. If we send everyone inside without preparation, we could exhaust the available resources before they have gained enough from the experience."

"I understand the risk," Amun replied. "We will need to regulate access, establish priorities, and ensure that the strongest candidates receive enough time to benefit from the opportunity.

But we cannot afford to leave our people dependent on conventional methods of advancement while Theras prepares to begin the final stage of his plan.

Even a modest improvement in Origin comprehension could make a difference in the battles ahead, particularly for those who are already approaching the limits of the Saint realm. Some may even find the opportunity they need to break through to the Demi-God realm."

He regarded me thoughtfully before continuing. "We do not need every High Saint to become a Demi-God, nor can we expect everyone to achieve the same results.

What matters is that we give them the best chance to improve before the war reaches its decisive stage. The Origin Expanse offers an opportunity we cannot afford to waste, and I intend to use it to strengthen as many of our people as possible."

I understood the reasoning, though I also knew that even a large increase in the strength of the Prime Universe’s forces might not be enough to overcome the Eternal Universe’s advantage.

The strongest Eternals were already Demi-Gods, and their legions had been shaped by a being whose power approached the threshold of Godhood. We needed every advantage we could obtain, but the gap between our forces and theirs would not disappear through preparation alone.

Amun appeared to reach the same conclusion, because his expression grew serious once more as he turned the discussion back toward me.

"All of this may give us a chance to challenge Theras, but it will not guarantee victory. We can strengthen our armies, liberate the vassal universes, and prevent him from obtaining the fourth fragment, yet we will still be facing someone who has reached the extreme limit of the High Demi-God realm.

If he begins the harvest, even a partial success could make him stronger than he is now, and we cannot assume that our preparations will be enough to stop him."

His gaze settled on me, and I sensed that the next part of his plan concerned something he considered even more important than the armies we would gather.

"You, Billion, will need to become stronger as well. Much stronger than you are now, if that is possible. Your progress over the past three years has been extraordinary, and the fact that you have reached such strength is something I would never have thought possible.

But you have also encountered the same wall that has stopped Theras from advancing, and until you find a way past it, your potential remains unrealized. If there is any possibility of you reaching Godhood before he does, you must pursue it with everything you have."

I looked down at my hands, remembering the countless attempts I had made inside the Origin Expanse to push even one of my Origins beyond ninety percent.

No matter how much Essence I absorbed or how deeply I studied their manifestations, I had been unable to cross that boundary. I had returned with more power than I had ever possessed, yet the one answer I needed most remained beyond my reach.

"I have already tried," I admitted. "For three years, I searched for a way to push my resonance further, but none of the Origins would advance beyond ninety percent. I can continue gathering power, but I do not believe that simply accumulating more Essence will solve the problem. Something is missing, and until I understand what it is, I may remain trapped at the same boundary as Theras."

"Then finding that missing piece must become your highest priority," Amun said. "You do not need to follow the same path he has chosen, and I would rather you find another way than sacrifice countless beings to force your advancement.

But if there is a path to Godhood that does not require the destruction of entire universes, we must discover it before Theras completes his harvest. The fate of every world may depend on whether you can achieve what he has failed to accomplish through all his years of preparation."

"I still have a few preparations to complete before we summon everyone and begin laying out the details of our plan," he said. "There are matters I need to settle personally, and I would rather have everything ready before we bring the others together. You should return to your own affairs in the meantime and consider your next step carefully, especially how you intend to break through the boundary that has stopped your progress."

He paused, and a faint trace of helplessness appeared in his eyes. "I wish I could offer you some guidance, Billion, but I cannot. I have spent countless years trying to advance beyond my own limits, and I am still stuck at the same boundary. I understand the principles behind reaching Godhood, but understanding the requirements and discovering how to fulfil them are two entirely different things. I have no answer to offer you, and I will not pretend otherwise."
