Chapter 694: Another Trip To Mars
Chapter 694: Another Trip To Mars
The group recalled their previous visit to the Lunar Base, when an endless swarm of automated construction drones had been buzzing around the skeletal frame of the Emperor Class-II Starship.
Back then, the sight of the colossal metal skeleton taking shape in the void was already a marvel to behold. They had all spent hours imagining what the finished vessel would look like, but now, staring at the completed warship hanging in lunar orbit, reality surpassed every expectation.
"It’s really majestic and imposing," Lana murmured, her eyes wide as she took in the sleek, razor-sharp lines of the black composite hull. "It truly lives up to its name as an Emperor Class Starship."
"I wouldn’t expect anything less from Lucy and Liam," Alex replied, a proud, knowing smile crossing his face. "This starship is for Liam personally, so of course it had to look untouchable."
"I wonder how long it’ll take before pictures of it start circulating online?" Elise asked, leaning against the viewport console.
"Depends on when the final hull plates locked into place," Kristopher reasoned. "If construction finished before the previous batch of clinical trial volunteers left for Earth, then pictures are probably already spreading. If it was finished after, it’ll start trending the moment the next group looks out their shuttle windows."
While they were talking, Kristy was already using her Lucid device to check the global feed. She didn’t even need to type a query; the moment her mind registered the search intent, the top real-time trends materialized across her vision.
Sitting firmly at the number four spot globally was `#secondstarshipcompleted`.
"Guys, it’s already trending," Kristy announced. "Number four on LucidNet."
"I’m not even surprised," Harper chuckled, shaking his head.
"Wait, why didn’t it pop up on my main discovery feed?" Elise asked, raising an eyebrow with playful suspicion.
"Could be any number of reasons," Matt smirked. "LucidNet’s recommendation algorithm knows you spend eight hours a day looking at interior design and virtual storefronts instead of orbital fleet updates."
"Hey!" Elise scoffed, though she couldn’t hide her laugh.
Alex leaned back against the pilot console, his expression softening into quiet reflection. "I just wish Liam was here with us. He could take us on a proper tour through the new starship, just like he did with the first one."
"I miss him too, man," Kristopher said softly, clapping a hand on Alex’s shoulder. "But he’s carrying the weight of something bigger than any of us can fathom right now."
"Do you think we could go see him?" Stacy asked quietly, her eyes turning toward the dark expanse beyond the viewport. "We don’t need to land or anything. Just... watch from a distance?"
The group fell quiet, their eyes drifting toward the back of the bridge where Yanxia stood.
Yanxia met their gazes with a warm, reassuring smile. "I’m sure Papa won’t mind as long as we keep a respectful distance and don’t disturb his concentration."
A collective wave of gratitude and relief swept through the bridge, smiles breaking out across their faces.
"Alright then," Matt said, his hands hovering over the holographic flight controls with renewed energy. "After we check on Liam, where are we dropping next? Are we making a run to Mars? Maybe even taking a long trip out to the asteroid belt and Jupiter?"
"I’m all for Mars and the asteroid belt," Lana chimed in, "but isn’t Jupiter a bit too far? Even with an FTL drive, won’t it take a while to get all the way out to the Jovian system?"
"Only one way to find out," Matt grinned. "Besides, this is a luxury space super-yacht. We’ve got automated life support, atomic food synthesizers, and unlimited power. We could live out here for weeks if we wanted to!"
"The only flaw in your grand plan, Captain Matt," Stacy pointed out with a chuckle, "is that none of us packed a bag. We don’t have a single change of clothes."
"Don’t worry about that," Matt reassured her with a wave of his hand. "The fab room downstairs can synthesize clothing in any size, color, design, or material in seconds. We’ll be pristine."
"Then what are we waiting for, Matt?" Alex grinned, stepping up to the co-pilot seat. "Punch it!"
Matt’s grin widened to his ears. "You got it."
He engaged the sub-light drive, bringing the Titanium Eagle into a graceful arc away from the far side of the Moon. The vessel veered upward toward the deep cosmic void, as they make their way towards Liam.
Within moments, the starship decelerated to a gentle drift, coming to a halt several hundred kilometers away from a solitary figure suspended in the absolute quiet of deep space.
Through the Titanium Eagle’s high-magnification forward viewport, the group watched in breathless silence.
Liam was seated in a serene lotus position, surrounded by a faint, translucent aura of Primordial Essence that shimmered like liquid gold against the black velvet of space. He was utterly motionless, his face calm and unbothered by the cosmic vacuum, his spiritual sense actively stepping across the vast, invisible fabric of universal laws far beyond human perception.
"Look at him," Harper whispered, his voice filled with profound awe. "He looks like a cosmic deity just resting between stars."
They lingered in silence for a few long, respectful minutes, soaking in the quiet majesty of their friend’s solitary watch over the cosmos.
"We should let him focus," Yanxia said gently, her eyes lingering on her father’s figure with quiet pride.
Matt nodded, his hands gliding smoothly across the navigation interface. "Setting coordinates for the Red Planet. Locking in FTL warp parameters."
The holographic navigation map flared to life, plotting a pristine vector straight through the solar system.
"Warp drive engaged in three... two... one..."
The space surrounding the Titanium Eagle bent. The distant stars stretched into brilliant, iridescent streaks of light as the starship folded spatial coordinates, vanishing from the Earth-Moon system in a silent, instantaneous flash.
A mere handful of seconds later, the warp field collapsed smoothly.
The viewport cleared, and the deep, rich ochre sphere of Mars expanded before them, its massive rust-red dust storms and ancient impact craters glowing under the distant sun.
"We... we’re actually at Mars," Elise gasped, rushing to the viewport as the massive volcano of Olympus Mons rose along the Martian horizon. "It took literally five seconds!"
"Let’s take her down into the canyons," Matt shouted, his excitement booming across the bridge as he brought the Titanium Eagle diving toward the towering atmospheric ridges of Valles Marineris.
While the young group carved silent, hypersonic arcs through the red canyons of Mars—oblivious to the passage of time—the clock on Earth was steadily ticking toward a historical turning point.
