Chapter 1432: The Lake of Ice and Claws
Chapter 1432: The Lake of Ice and Claws
The Lake of Ice and Claws
Ice and Apollo had been stationed at the lake section of the park. The body of water that stretched out before them was wide, offering a deceptive sense of depth, but in truth, the lake was surprisingly shallow.
If a fully grown adult were to stand in the middle, the water would barely reach their knees. Still, its sheer size made it the perfect battleground for two individuals with elemental powers tied to ice and water.
Over time, through brutal training, real combat experience, and countless challenges, both Apollo and Ice had developed exceptionally strong elemental abilities. And in a place like this, where water was already abundant, they didn’t need to expend much power at all. Even a fraction of their energy was enough to encase enemies in solid ice.
So, when a wave of werewolves came crashing into their zone, neither Ice nor Apollo had any difficulty dealing with them.
The battle didn’t last long. Within moments, more than half of the attacking werewolves had been neutralized.
Giant chunks of ice, like fractured glaciers, jutted out from the lakebed, scattered across the water’s surface. Frozen inside these thick, jagged blocks were werewolves suspended in time, their limbs stretched in mid-attack, their expressions locked in snarls of aggression or surprise.
Some had been frozen where they stood. Others had clearly been struck down, their bodies flung into the water, only to be sealed instantly in ice.
After witnessing the destruction firsthand, the remaining werewolves quickly realized that these two were not opponents they could overcome. Without hesitation, they turned tail and sprinted away, vanishing into the shadows of the trees.
Apollo and Ice watched them flee. Though neither of them wanted to abandon the overwhelming advantage the lake granted them, they understood what had to be done.
They needed to regroup. To head toward Gary.
However, they soon realized that the retreating werewolves weren’t just running away in fear.
There was another reason. A far more terrifying one.
“He’s giving off the same presence as the last one,” Apollo said, his voice dropping to a tense whisper. “There’s no doubt. That’s their leader, Lupus, right?”
The overwhelming aura pressing down on them confirmed it, even before the man had reached them. Red eyes gleamed in the distance. The oppressive weight of his presence wrapped around them like a heavy fog, choking the air despite him still being in human form.
Ice narrowed his eyes. “Try to last longer than two seconds this time,” he muttered.
Apollo wanted to retort, had the comeback on the tip of his tongue, but this wasn’t the time. They both knew that.
Lupus suddenly broke into a run, closing the distance between them. As his body surged forward, his form began to crack and shift. His transformation had begun.
Ever since their crushing defeat at the hands of Unzoku, Apollo and Ice had made it their mission to fight together in perfect sync. To amplify their powers by fusing their techniques.
Now, that training was being put to the test.
With a loud shout, Apollo clenched his fists, strengthening them with his energy, while Ice slammed his massive club into the lake’s surface. The two impacts combined, sending a massive wave of water surging forward.
But the wave wasn’t just water.
As it rushed ahead, it hardened, turned to ice mid-motion, forming what looked like a monstrous frozen beast charging toward its prey.
Lupus, however, didn’t flinch. With both arms extended to his sides, he swung them upward in a powerful arc.
Claw marks, enormous and blazing with raw force, ripped through the air. The shockwave shattered the icy wave with a thunderous crack, sending shards flying in every direction.
Lupus had smashed through the ice with terrifying ease.
His transformation completed, the towering werewolf now raced forward across what remained of the frozen wave.
Ice narrowed his eyes, summoning a long spear in his hand. This one looked different from his usual conjurations, more solid, more refined. The details were sharp and clean, like it had been forged by a blacksmith rather than summoned by magic.
White fur began to grow from Ice’s arms, crawling across his skin in ragged tufts. He was activating his full Altered form.
They both knew the truth: an opponent like Lupus wouldn’t be brought down easily. They needed to strike hard, and fast.
Ice hurled the spear with all his might. The sheer force split the water beneath it, sending ripples echoing outward.
‘If we’re going to bring someone like him down… we need to injure him as much as possible, and do it fast!’ Ice thought.
Despite Lupus moving at high speed, the spear was perfectly aimed. He had no choice.
Lupus lifted his arm, catching the spear directly with his hand. The tip pierced through, forcing his arm to jerk back violently. The weapon nearly tore straight through his palm.
With a growl, Lupus yanked the spear out, and, without breaking stride, flung it right back at Ice.
Anticipating this, Ice raised his shield.
The returning spear smashed into the shield with explosive force, shattering both in a deafening crash. Ice was sent flying backward, tumbling through the shallow water.
His body slammed against the lake floor, but thankfully, the weapon had broken apart before it could pierce his skin.
“ICE!” Apollo shouted.
But he didn’t have time to check on his friend.
Lupus had leapt into the air, claws poised, ready to strike.
Apollo growled, his body shifting into his full Altered form. A hulking figure covered in icy, bear-like armor. He bent his knees, digging into the lakebed.
As Lupus came crashing down, Apollo launched upward to meet him head-on.
The two collided in a burst of raw power.
Despite his efforts, Apollo was knocked down hard. The impact sent him crashing back into the ground, shaking the earth beneath them.
Lupus wasted no time. He grabbed Apollo by the shoulder with his monstrous claw, lifting him off the ground as if he weighed nothing.
It looked like he was about to toss Apollo aside.
But that’s when he noticed something.
Ice was back on his feet.
His body was fully transformed now, head to toe covered in white, ragged fur. He held his club tight, eyes locked onto Lupus.
Lupus moved to throw Apollo, intending to use his body as a shield against Ice’s next attack.
But Apollo didn’t budge.
“I’ve been waiting for this moment,” Apollo said through clenched teeth. “Last time… being thrown like that? It was humiliating.”
He had hardened the water beneath his feet, transforming it into thick layers of ice that anchored him in place. At the same time, he was drawing on his internal strength, shifting his center of gravity to become heavier, stronger.
“This time, things are going to be very different!” Apollo roared.
