Chapter 1477: The Power Of Water (Part 1)

From above, the others watched the vehicle roar across the dirt before finally veering down one of the distant hills. But none of their eyes lingered on the car for long. What truly captured their attention, what froze them in place, were the figures that had leapt free from the vehicle just moments before it crashed away.

Even from this distance, even through the haze of dust and smoke, there was no mistaking them.

The group recognized the people instantly.

It was the old heads of the White Rose. They had gathered here, all of them, together.

“I... I can’t believe it.” Elijah’s voice cracked, disbelief shaking his words. His eyes widened and his throat tightened as he spoke. “They all actually came... they really came here.”

Tears began to stream down Elijah’s face, and both Sadie and Fank seemed to understand why. His thoughts were written plainly across his expression. If only they had arrived sooner. If only we had been stronger. If only we had lasted a few moments longer...

Maybe then, Kanu could have been saved. Maybe then, with the heads of White Rose at their side, the tragedy would not have happened.

The guilt weighed heavily on Elijah’s chest, the bitter reality suffocating him. Even now, as they stood together on the balcony with Xin, they hadn’t had the chance to tell her what had happened. It wasn’t the right time. Perhaps it never would be.

“Look, Vlad!” Vere suddenly shouted, her voice breaking through the silence. She pointed down at the battlefield, her eyes lighting up. “It’s Austin, I knew he would be fine!”

But when she turned to her side to share her relief, she realized Vlad was gone. In the next instant, she saw him already on the ground, his strange, furred tentacles whipping out from his body, coiling around Austin with surprising gentleness.

With careful strength, Vlad lifted him up and carried him back to the balcony where the others waited.

“It’s good to see you’re all okay,” Austin said once he had landed, his voice weary but filled with relief.

Xin’s eyes flicked to the figures standing behind him. “Right... and it looks like you’ve brought quite the company with you.”

Austin nodded. His gaze shifted to the towering wolf with glowing crimson eyes in the distance. His jaw clenched. “They’re strong. Let’s just hope they’re strong enough.”

He didn’t know the full situation, but one look was all it took. The red-eyed beast, it could only be Kai.

On the ground floor, Gary was closest to the scene. His eyes narrowed as he recognized two of the figures who had arrived alongside Don: Chen, and Don Tinge himself. Both men had once stood with him against a gang in the past. Seeing them here now, standing ready, sparked a glimmer of hope. With the three of them together, maybe... just maybe... Kai could be stopped.

And yet, a heavy reluctance gnawed at Gary. In this instance, he knew the truth. He would only get in their way.

“Do what you can to restrain him,” Gary ordered firmly, his voice steady despite the chaos around him. “Marie, you stay back. Leave this to the three of them. When you see your chance, do what you have to do.”

Turning sharply, Gary moved back toward the front of the restaurant. He didn’t step inside, though, and Marie didn’t leave his side. Both of them knew the same thing. If the situation turned, if the tide shifted even a fraction, they would have no choice but to intervene.

“Come on, Wolfie!” Don shouted, his booming voice rolling across the battlefield. His grin was wild, his tone taunting. “I was the one who attacked you earlier! Aren’t you going to do something about it?”

Don was already transformed. He had shifted during the journey, his body ready for battle long before he had even arrived. Watching Adam fight with everything he had told him all he needed to know, the opponent standing before them was no ordinary foe.

Kai was dangerous.

Lifting his hands high into the air, Don called upon his power. The sky above them began to shift, dark clouds gathering ominously, swirling as though the heavens themselves bent to his will.

Kai’s eyes locked onto him. In the next heartbeat, the wolf’s massive body pounced forward, the ground trembling beneath his claws as he launched himself straight at Don. His sheer speed turned him into a blur, his blood-red eyes locked onto his prey.

But before the impact came, another figure stood firm. A man with two massive arms stepped between them, shoving both limbs forward. A whirling vortex of water burst to life, spiraling into a raging whirlpool.

Kai’s body slammed into it head-on. The force of his pounce was halted instantly, it was as though he had struck an immovable wall.

The spinning current battered him again and again, each wave like a crushing blow against his body. The wolf snarled, his maw opening wide, and a stream of pale steam erupted from his mouth. The freezing mist coated the barrier of water, locking parts of it into jagged ice.

Kai shifted, preparing to lunge elsewhere, but before he could, tentacles lashed out from behind him. They struck from all angles, aiming to restrain him.

The wolf roared in defiance. Shards of ice burst outward from his back, piercing the tentacles, stabbing clean through them.

The clash continued, violent and unyielding, until Kai leapt backward, retreating a short distance. But it wasn’t fear that pulled him back, no, in his current state, retreat was nothing but strategy. His instincts screamed for blood, not escape.

And then, at last, the sky opened up. From the darkened clouds, rain began to fall.

Don smirked, his eyes gleaming with anticipation. “You know,” he said, his voice loud enough for all to hear, “there’s an interesting fact about the three of us.”

He spread his arms wide, rain cascading down his shoulders. “It’s rare that we come together like this. But once, long ago, there was a secret project, something designed for a day when our abilities would be needed side by side.”

He raised his chin proudly. “You see, our powers complement one another. One provides the strongest shield. Another has the ability to restrain. And as for me...” Don clenched his fists, thunder cracking overhead.

“I’m the one who attacks.”
